Background:
"Raise your bows! Take aim... Fire!" Mynok launches an arrow at his target, but it flys right on by, not even touching him. A large burly man comes rushing down on Mynok, "What the hell was that shot? Hold your shot untill you have the target in your mind as well as in your eyes! You ahve been taught better than that, this village may one day need your arrows to find their mark!" Fuming Head Defender Cornallis turns on his heel still speaking, "Class this is exactly what you should not do! look at this... man as an example to learn from. Anyone who cannot hit a straw target not 30 yards away is either an incompetant, or a pacifist.. neither will survive long in this world! Class dismissed, meet back here tomarrow morning, same time." With that Cornallis spins and walks back toward the guardhouse.
Mynok, out retrieving his arrows (more missed than on target), doesn't hear anything but his own thoughts. Why does he always have to pick on me? I am working on my shot, even if it takes me some time. I don't know why he and I cannot seem to ever get along, I get along so well with everyone else. I even get along with the other races that travel through the town, now who else can say they have befriended both dwarves and elves? He doesn't eve try to befriend people, he is suspicious and hates all of them. A weight hits Mynok from behind and he hits the ground, snapping an arrow that was in his hand, "Hey there dumbass, see you still cant hit the target! Its a shame your not working for on of the city-states, we could use an enemy as incompetant as yourself." It was three of his classmates, the three best shots in the village, and Head Defender Cornallis' favored students.
"You broke an arrow, the Head Defender will be so angry at you! Even as his special students you will hear of this one!" Mynok says to them as he brandishes his broken arrow shaft.
"He wont hear anything you idiot! You broke it not us, with your incompetance! Who do you think he would believe? But you wont tell him anything other than you broke it, right?" Said by there leader, the Head Defenders eldest son himself. Saying this he steps foward and kicks Mynok solidly in the chest and Mynok goes flying back onto the ground.
Mynok losing his temper, for the first and last time in his entire life, jumps back to his feet saying, "No! I will tell him the truth, that you broke the arrow when you assulted me! And you will see time in the jail! Our cardinal rule is that we must protect one another because no one else ever will!"
"Jail time for the Defenders son? I seriously doubt that, but got you, who assulted me, yeah you might get jail time." Turning to his friends Khallis says, "You guys saw him "attempt" to hit me, didn't you?" With their grins and nods he turns back to Mynok, "See you are the only instigator here, now I think it might be time to escort you back to town to be put in jail!" He and his friends start closing in on Mynok. He stretches back, and then his fist connects right onto the right side of Mynok's face.
Mynok lost the last little control on his temper, he screamed and held his hands out toward Khallis and a ray of light went forth from his hands and hit Khallis in the chest. Khallis dropped on the spot, dead. Everything stops, and it seems as if even the world itself paused a second in shock of what had just happened...
"OH MY GOD YOU KILLED HIM!" was screamed by both Khallis' friends as they ran away back toward town. "Mynok killed Khallis! Mynok is a murderer! He tried to kill us as well! HELP!"
Mynok, in such a shock over the death of his tormentor, watched them go, he no longer felt emotions. Calmly, cooly, coldly, he picks up his bow, takes all of his arrows, and takes Khallis' arrows. He then turns and walks into the forest, knowing he was now an outlaw and hunted by the very village he was raised and trained to protect.
Three years had passed since that day. Now Mynok the Ranger stood at the same spot Khallis fell. "A sad day that was. One that changed the life of everyone I am sure. What happened that day will not be in vain, learning to survive on my own was much better training than what your father offered." With that said Mynok turns toward the town he had vowed never to return to... and never again could he return to it...
He walks the streets, looking at the size it had grown to while he was away. Three years makes alot of difference in a village. This village had grown emensly... too much in fact. It had grown so large it had become a target for one City-State. To make their anger known at their neighboring City-State they attacked the town that was on the border between them. The town that was trained to defend against them... The town that stood no chance against the magical warfare brought against them.
Mynok's village was gone. The town the village had turned into was burned. Mynok's anger towards the City-State that did this burned with life! He scouts the tracks, finding out where they lead to. Then stopping, and thinking, he rides off toward Nibany.
Magic Item:
Bow of Cornallis
When you revisited you decimated village, you happened upon the tortured, crucified corpse of Cornallis. Fallen at its feet was his legendary bow, a weapon viewed in awe from your childhood. You took up the weapon, vowing to avenge the fate of your village, and ever since it has been your weapon of choice.
Treat it as a MW Composite Longbow, and is crafted in such a way that it can be used as a MW Quarterstaff in close combat. While in direct pursuit of your sword oath (avenging the village), it becomes a +1 Composite Longbow. Additionally, when firing upon those that you have sworn to fight (any minions of the city-state, when you discover which one it is), it is treated as a Bane weapon for those enemies, granting it an additional +2 Enhancement bonus and a +2d6 damage.
If, however, you are ever in pursuits not directly related to avenging the village, the bow is treated as a regular Longbow and takes a -2 penalty to attack and damage. Additionally, it can never be used to attack someone both unarmed and non-aggressive, and will miss every time it is fired in such a way.
Only when you have successfully avenged your village will you be able to designate a new oath for the bow.
"A Templar of Draj ordered the destruction of your city, and the captivity of many of its inhabitants. His name is Quetzal, and you will know him by the scorpion's tail that is his symbol."
Mynok, "The Storm of Arrows" - I cannot remember an encounter that didn't at some point result in Mynok unleashing a torrent of arrows at his opponents. Practice makes perfect, as they say. Mynok adds the Greater Manyshot feat to his repetoire for free (he may use Manyshot to target separate foes, rolls for each arrow, may crit on each, and applies precision-based damage to each). In addition, Mynok's unwavering drive for revenge has been well-noted - including by his weapon of choice. Its enhancement bonus improves by +1 (except for its 'non-direct pursuit. That is, it becomes +2 for direct pursuit (most cases) and +4 in its Bane form, which will become quite handy in the near future).
Mynok gains a few things. First, make the following changes:
+2 Str
+4 Con
+2 Natural Armor
Darkvision 60’, Low-light Vision
Energy Resistance Fire: 10
Cold Vulnerability
-4 to Hide on account of his glowing eyes and accoutrements.
Cosmetically, his skin is thicker and darker, a little reddish. His eyes glow faintly and are now red (not all red like Erebus’s, but the color has changed).
He also receives:
+1 Flaming Burst Composite Longbow (Does +1d6 on regular attacks, +1d10 on critical hits)
+1 Flaming Burst Longsword
Obviously he loses all the Cornallis benefits, but I think this makes up for it.[rand=98931502647580187609631433081261942944665774220509802901411251169]
