Born in Balic, his parents left him in the care of relatives at an early age, leaving to fight for another and promising to return for him one day. After all these years he presumes them dead "fighting someone else's battle".
As a child he was quite the thief, racing through the streets for the thrill of the chase, hoping that his parents would return to deal with the chaos. They didn't, but his foster parents always seemed able to smooth things over, until they died too.
With few marketable skills and more than a few enemies Dastan struck out into the desert, embarking on a life of adventure and exploration, searching for lost wealth and excitement.

This wasn't the first time that Dastan had been ... detained. Not the first time he'd been accused of someone else's crime, but the kid looked like he needed more of a head start. If he'd known that half the city guard had been involved in the chase he might have gone for a little headstart himself.
Still, not so bad, nothing broken, nothing missing. Time to be leaving this place anyway, Dastan just hopes he can find his lucky scarf on the way out.
Character :
Dastan lives day to day with little in the way of a long term plan, save a strong wonderlust and sense of adventure. He does not like to dwell on the past, his care free attitude dulling his sense of fear, though he is not fond of tight spaces.
Dastan finds it difficult to trust others, feeling that everyone has their own agenda, and is hesitant to join with others and risk his life for anothers cause as his parents did.
