Special Ability
- Duelist: Ever since you became a proud warrior, you've searched the world for fighters like you, willing to test their mettle with you. Duels have often resulted from this, such as your long encounter with your old master, Marcelus Augustine. You gain +1 to tumble, and during combat may assign one foe as a free action against whom you gain a +2 AC bonus (like the dodge feat, but +2 instead of +1).
- Student of Philosophy: Besides combat, Marcelus Augustine taught you the fruits of wisdom and philosophy. You gain +2 knowledge (philosophy) skill and +2 to your wisdom ability.
- The Pirate's Bane: Among pirates, you are known as the Pirate's Bane, a reputation which you earned during long mercenary service for Spanish merchants. Pirates you encounter are automatically unfriendly towards you, but you gain: +4 profession (sailor), and the favoured enemy (pirates) ability, just like the ranger's ability: a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, Survival and Intimidate checks when using these skills against pirates. Likewise, you get a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against pirates.
- Weapon Master: Your MW bastard sword, given to you by Marcelus Augustine before he passed away, is beautifully decorated and extremely efficient. You (and only you) may treat it like a +1 MW bastard sword.

Backstory
Marcus Lerato is a traveling mercenary of sorts. As a youth he was trained as a soldier and showed promise to be elite. He like so many youth got caught in the wrong part of the world. Fighting anyone he felt like. This brought problems from the army where he was soon dismissed for it. He then proceeded to cause a trouble where ever he went with his love of combat and tenacious heart, even if it was in the wrong place, until one day he was toyed with by a man about twice his age. Everything he tried nothing would work. The man side stepped every stab, blocked every swing, and avoided every charge all effortlessly.
He was obviously a better man that this one who toyed with him but he did not understand why he could not beat him. After Marcus was exhausted and humiliated, the man asked him to come home with him. It was there that Marcelus Augustine told Marcus he could not win because he did not fight for a like he did purpose. He stayed with the man studying philosophy for the next few years until the man passed away.
Ever since then he has traveled the world studying philosophy and joining any cause he judge a just one. He still loved the thrill of combat but even more so now that he did it for a purpose. He has traveled from Spain where he was trained and began his study, he also worked for Spanish merchants who were being robbed daily by Barbary Coast Pirates to France where he joined a tiny revolt against a corrupt tax collector and his guards (so small in fact he practically did it himself, with nothing but food and shelter from the others who joined the cause), now he finds himself near Rome hearing tells of the "forlorn hope" and wonders what it’s like to be a man forced to do what other men won’t do??
Description
Marcus Lerato is a relatively young man, but scared from battle all the same. Every scar means something different for him now. Each one from a battle for a different cause. The bullet in his side was for justice for the Spanish merchants, the long scar across his cheek for defending the innocent in France, the mutilation of his back was for loyalty to his allies when he was captured and tortured but wouldn’t give them up in…..well no one knows really. Marcus has a force of determination about him that is indescribable. A look in his eyes of steel that show he can’t be turned from his causel, but what for?? He doesn’t even know. He is still looking for his cause.
