Our third battle features Kieron Jeremi and Malanuus Blood-Horn(Characters involved in the DM's Shorts, thus no links posted as they are subject to change) Today you stand ready, challenged to a battle of honor. . . to the deathNOTE: Any and all injury to the characters and their worldly possessions is hereby restricted to this thread and should not effect their status in any way throughout their future involvement on the boards. "As you stand on the darkened platform you look up to see the lights of the arena glowing above you. You stand ready, your gear in hand as the gears begin turning. Slowly, ever so slowly you rise up into the arena, you see a sandy floor and bleak stone walls surrounding you. You can also see large stone pillars supporting the ceiling far above your heads. Echoing around the cavernous opening you hear the sounds of the other platforms rising into the arena with yours; on one of them stands your opponent. You immediately glance from left to right to look for any sign of him, but you can only see the arena." ----lifted from Japic The crowd which has gathered at the sidelines begins to roar, cheering on their favorite as you come into view. Your heart pounds with the thrill of battle as your mind races with thoughts of victory You get ready to make your move, what will it be? Remember, your line of sight to one another is completely blocked due to the massive pillar in the center of the arena. (Initiative: Malanuus 24, Kieron 17) NOTE Please try to post in order of initiative whenever possible. If you would like to ready an action to go off as a result of a particular trigger, (IE I ready an action to shoot at the wizard when she begins casting her spell) please feel free to PM me with that trigger and action. This will all help to keep metagaming to a minimum. Everyone knows that each god has a champion, a divine favor...an avatar.
What they do not know is that avatars are not born, they are made. They are not simply cast from a perfect mold, but rather molded to be perfect, the epitome of their faith and doctrines.
This was Malanuus' time to be made.
The arena was the mold and battle was his faith, his god. He would be its avatar--its champion. The crowd would be witness to his rise to glory, his victory...
Checking his gauntlets to make sure they're tight, Malanuus extends his hands outward and howls in bloodlust. He snorts, stamps his feet and does all he can to get the crowd into this fight.
He moves straight towards his enemy, ready to get this battle started...
{Double Move 60ft to end up at lower left corner of central platform}
{AoO Stats ; +12, 1d6+8 damage}
{Changed stats from character sheet; New AC = 15 New Attacks = 1 punch @ +12 Melee New Damage = 1d6 (Large Spiked Gauntlet) +8 STR damage}

Calmly looking around the area, Kieron begins the breathing exercises taught to him long ago. Freeing his mind of fear. anger and hate he blocks out the crowd. His opponent was huge and would be able to deliver a punishing attack with his charge. However, hand to hand, it would be even, that he was sure.
Kieron silently slips over to the pillar on the top right and ducks behind it hiding. He would have to try and out wit the minotaur if he was to prevail.
OK, Move silently +13, Hide +13
Fists/Feet - AB +8, FoBAB +7/+7, dmg d8 + 3 AC 19 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouch, i've just done the maths, and unless Malanuus misses a good few time, i'm in serious pain. My maximum damage is equivilent to Malanuus' average damage! Oh well, its all good fun ;D

With a fierce battle cry which echoes throughout the arena, Malanuus is set to begin this fight. The crowd's roar and cheers of encouragement increase in volume as the minotaur finally makes his move. With a determined stare, he sets his sights straight ahead. He moves quickly from his platform, sand rising underfoot, enveloping the minotaur in a dusty haze as he launches toward the center of the arena. He moves to the massive column, ready to round the corner. He will be the first to find and crush his opponent. He will be the one who tastes victory on tthis day. (Malanuus spot check)- As he races to round the pillar in search of his foe, Malanuus turns slightly in search of the monk and to spy the crowd which has gathered to revel in his victory. As he does, a slight glean catches his eye. A small glass vial rests upon another wooden platform to his left. There is a label, but at this distance it is difficult for the minotaur to read. Though it is familliar enough, a potion of sorts, of that you can be certain. Kieron stands calmly, assessing the situation at hand. He must remain focused, use his wit, bring to mind all that he has learned throughout the course of his training. For if he allows himself to act with haste, he will surely fall to the minotaur. With uncanny speed, the monk heads for the cover of a nearby column. He uses the sand to his advantage, trying to remain as quiet as possible in hopes that Malanuus will not be drawn to him so suddenly. Kieron Move Silently penalty for moving at full speed + bonus granted by sand = 25 Malanuus Listen = 8 (no penalty) With all of the noise and distraction, Malanuus hears no signs of movement from beyond the massive pillar which he moves past. {Nope, position is just fine Z-Shakes} The crowd was into the fight. Malanuus was driven by bloodlust. There would be blood today! ... ... ...but where was his enemy? Was this not an arena? Was this not a competition for glory and victory? Did Malanuus arrive on the correct date? The questions continue to pile up. Using his massive brain power, Malanuus deduces that his opponent must be somewhere opposite this massive, 'conveniently' occupying pillar in the center of the arena. He moves to find the enemy while calling out. "Am I to face a coward? Is there to be battle today?"{Double Move so that I end up here; |------------------[===]------------------| |---($)------------[===]------------($)---| |------------------[===]------------------| |------------------------------MM---------| |------------------------------MM---------| |-----------------------------------------|

OOC: Well, i'm having to fight back the immense feeling of irritation at knowing I have entered a battle I cant win. Oh well, on with the show! ;D -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, other than out pacing the minotaur around the arena until he gets bored and goes home, and with no missle weapons, Kieron surges forward, doubt creeping into his heart.
Kieron makes a move action 50ft taking him to within 10ft of the minotaur. He then uses his next action to tumble into the threat area 5ft up the minotaur (I dont think i can make a 5ft step then attack can I?).

Growing ever more impatient with the seeming lack of an opponent to square off against, Malanuus paces toward the other side of the arena where the huge support column would no longer hamper his vision, and where with any luck, he would catch a glimpse of the cowardly monk and beat him to a bloody pulp for being so evasive and obviously demonstrating poor combat manners. There was no place to escape to. . . if this was indeed the scheduled day of the fight. (Malanuus spot checks)- As he approaches the next wooden platform, again Malanuus sees no signs of his opponent, though another vial does catch his eye. At this distance he is able to read the label with only a quick glance. Mage Armor. As he turns his head to inspect the small northern pillar, still sees no trace of the monk. The crowd seems ready for action. With their fists and feet they pound. They came to see a fight, and it was battle which they were calling for. Malanuus's steadfast fans rally behind him. "COWARD COWARD" they taunt the monk, urging him to come out and face his foe head on as the minotaur was prepared to do. But Kieron's friends and fans do not sway. Their cheers resonate throughout the arena in support of the monk with faith that it will be he who stands tall on the field of battle. Just as the minotaur begins fighting away thoughts of leaving this match and returning to his rooms at the Academy, Kieron appears from the pillar behind which he was standing. With immense speed possessed only by those who have gained mastery over their bodies and what they are capable of, the monk approaches his foe. The crowd's volume increases with shock and excitement as Kieron's impressive display of agility enables him to bewilder the minotaur for a brief moment. (move 40ft. tumble 5ft <half speed with remainder of move action> avoid AoO autosuccess 15 tumble, take free 5 ft. step to approach.) Siezing this opportunity, Kieron pulls back a clenched fist and lets it fly at Malanuus's chest, nearly knocking the wind from the minotaur's sails with a well placed punch. (standard action attk =26 dmg = 9). (Kieron spot check) penalty for distraction= there is a potion of Mage Armor on the wooden platform no more then 25 ft. from you. Completely ignorant of the potion of Mage Armor (by choice), Malanuus focuses on the monk that just flew out of nowhere into his range. Malanuus was no mage and he swore to wear no armor...so he would avoid the draw of the potion. Hopefully his enemy would do the same. Now as for hiding and charding sideways at his enemy....well, the tactics of this monk would be discussed later. Fueled with bloodlust, Malanuus lays into his enemy. 1st Attack @ +12, d6+8 Damage, X2 on Nat 20. 2nd Attack (Using natural weapons of horns as full round attack action) @ +7, d6+8 Damage, X2 on a Nat. 20 He then takes a 5ft step South. {OOC: Wicksy, just a personal disclaimer, I got no problems with how you approached...I would have done the same thing. I'm just trying to relay what Malanuus would be thinking. Good job on the first strike!}

Kieron had to think fast. Malanuus would deliver some punishing blows given the chance.
OK, Tumbling away from Malanuus towards the potion, Kieron grabs it and gulps it down. (think i can do that in one round). He then nominates dodge against Malanuus (I always take the feat and always forget to use it).
Tumble +15

OOC: (OK, I made a slight mistake with regard to 5 foot stepping when taking a move action, you can't do it, but I guess that's what happens when you're far to lenient with moving. Don't worry though, I'll find a way to mess with Kieron on Malanuus's behalf soon. kidding of course, but I'll keep the rule in mind until I forget it.) -------------------------------------- Infuriated with the sight of the monk standing before him so suddenly, Malanuus lets his rage and hunger for blood take hold of him. With overwhelming force, the minotaur drills his gauntleted fist into the skull of Kieron. The piercing spikes break the skin and a crimson rush of blood begins to spill forth from the wound, (attk= 27 dmg =13). This accomplished, the minotaur throws back his head and prepares to add to the mess with his horns, but Kieron will not allow himself to be so easily taken out of this match as he quickly jerks his body out of reach and the fearsome horns fall short of their mark. (attk- 18. I've been subtracting 1 to hit for large size as you hadn't done so on your sheet, let me know if there was a valid reason why so I can readjust if needed). With this, Malanuus takes a slight step backwards. Keeping the monk at bay where he can properly take in the damage which he has dealt. (5 ft step) (Kieron, you have the Dodge feat, so I am assuming that you are using it, thus increasing your AC to 20) With the pain throbbing in his head, Kieron is fully aware that he will not be able to endure much more of this. If the minotaur gets in a few more good shots it would all be over. Kieron looks over his shoulder through blood-filled eyes. The potion, ever so enticing. A shot at victory, but at what cost? His honor Yes, it was worth it. With a quick shift in his center of gravity, the monk whips himself away from Malanuus's reach (tumble, part of move action). He moves to the platform on which rests the small glass vial (remainder of move action). With a nimble hand, Kieron scoops it into his grasp and frantically works to uncap it (second move action) (You can drink it next round as a standard action if you wish) (Initiative Malanuus 24 Kieron 17) MAP _______________________ /-----------------------\ /-------------------------\ /------------(-)------------\ /-----------------------------\ /-------------------------------\ /---------------------------------\ /-----------------------------------\ /-------------------------------------\ /----------[=]-------------[=]----------\ /-----------------------------------------\ |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |------------------[===]------------------| |---($)------------[===]------------(K)---| |------------------[===]------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |------------------------------MM---------| |------------------------------MM---------| \-----------------------------------------/ \----------[=]-------------[=]----------/ \-------------------------------------/ \-----------------------------------/ \---------------------------------/ \-------------------------------/ \-------------(--)------------/ \------------(--)-----------/ \-------------------------/ \-----------------------/ \_____________________/

{Man I would love to have the full SRD Minotaur 'Powerful Charge' right now... I had to re-examine Savage Species because I thought I had it, but I don't. However, I do get some benefits to charging with the ol' horns. Modified Racial Class features to be accurate.} ... ... ... "Have you no honor?!" Malanuus is furious. He stamps his foot, bringing his whole weight rushing forward and howls as he gains steam with each step. Muscles flex, joints tighten and eyes go bloodshot. This was unnacceptable to leave an enemy in lieu of drinking a potion....especially one with the words 'Mage' and 'Armor', neither of which belong with the valorous. {Charge, to this point; |---($)------------[===]------------(K)---| |------------------[===]-----------MM-----| |----------------------------------MM-----|

OOC: Hmm, bugger might be the appropriate word here. I hadnt realised that a gore attack was so powerful on the charge (my PC's are so dead next time I DM ). Well, I had suspected death was upon me, i hadnt realised how quick though, kind of damned if you do, damned if you dont. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, IF he's still standing, Kieron will drop the bottle, take a 5ft step into the threat range and launch a full attack. Dare I ask what powerful charge does? Cant be too much worse than that can it?

OOC: I'm not sure what to do. Powerful charge does not include the minotaur's regular gore damage to the 4d6+strength and a half. I guess I'll just not factor in the additional d6 and roll just the 2d8 if it comes to that. Not a huge deal. ---------------------------- With fire in his eyes, Malanuus brings into question the monk's honor while taking advantage of his cowardice. With Kieron in sight, the minotaur kicks up the sand underfoot and charges, head lowered, horns prepared to rip the slight human apart. However, a pang of shock courses through Malanuus's body as his horns tear through nothing but air, never meeting the familiar and feeble resistance of flesh and bone. (Attk= 17) At the sight of the charging minotaur, Kieron nearly panics, but still he remembers his training and ritual exercises of the mind and body. Lightening fast the monk maneuvers his body, taking a stance which serves to make him as small a target as possible. With feigned ease, he manages to successfully deflect the minotaur's lethal charge. Excitement fills the arena as the crowd rises to its feet, no doubt awed by the scene which has just unfolded. They scream and cheer, urging on both fighters as they are now fully drawn into the show. Fueled by the crowd and the newfound confidence in his abilities, Kieron empties his hand of the glass burden, letting it fall to the floor. the small vial shatters as it hits the wooden surface of the platform and the contents spill out. This does not balk the monk as he moves in on the minotaur. Seizing the opportunity of catching Malanuus with his horns down, Kieron delivers a swift kick to the exposed skull. Maintaining perfect poise, he lays a fist into the minotaur's jaw, drawing forth a small stream of blood. (assumed that you are flurrying as full round action attks= 24 and 20. dmg = 10 and 5 total = 15) (Initiative Malanuus 24 Kieron 17) MAP _______________________ /-----------------------\ /-------------------------\ /------------(-)------------\ /-----------------------------\ /-------------------------------\ /---------------------------------\ /-----------------------------------\ /-------------------------------------\ /----------[=]-------------[=]----------\ /-----------------------------------------\ |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |------------------[===]------------------| |---($)------------[===]------------(-)---| |------------------[===]-----------MMK----| |----------------------------------MM-----| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| \-----------------------------------------/ \----------[=]-------------[=]----------/ \-------------------------------------/ \-----------------------------------/ \---------------------------------/ \-------------------------------/ \-------------(--)------------/ \------------(--)-----------/ \-------------------------/ \-----------------------/ \_____________________/

{Every charge made my minos with their horns is considered powerful. According to the book KMan refers to the charging damage goes up based on teh Gore Die that you use. For a full fledged minotaur (another 2 levels I bnelieve for Malanuus) the normal gore attack on his horns would be 1d8 and teh charge an additional 4d6. That's for full on adult Minos, personally I'd not like to recieve one of those.}
{Now, so that this isn't a wasted offtopic post.}
From somewhere in the stands overlooking the field the voice of a male Half Giant comes booming through the din, offering encouragement to his pony. (Girud Sandstrider for any who know him; BOYD)
"Show that guy whose boss!! Give him the HORNS!!"
It seems evident that he favors the large minotuar in this fight. Only time would tell the victor; and that victor would decide who his one hundred gold coins belonged to.

{My only sanctuary in this argument is that the SRD states; Which to me means the damage is in addition to the charge. Like a charge with their weapon and their horns. But hey, I missed (at a 35% chance at that) so it's really moot.} *** Cursing the gods and himself for such a foolish blow, Malanuus reels back and regains his balance. Surely this monk must be cheating in some fashion, there was no way he could avoid that blow. What kind of world was this where cowards that chase potions could evade him and strike back un-answered? Not wasting any more breath on retorts, since he would be dead soon at this rate anyways, Malanuus just fights back. 1st Attack (Punch) +11, d6 + 8, X2 on Nat. 20 2nd Attack (Gore) +6, d6 +8, X2 on Nat. 20 AC now 15 Hope now at 0 *** {OOC: This cracks me up. I have a ~35%-ish chance to miss with primary attack whereas, using Flurry of Blows at +6/+6, even against my After-Charge AC, my opponent nails me twice with a ~30% chance. With my AC going back up, it makes that a 45% chance for Keiron to miss me...but he hasn't yet. Chunker and I play minis together and this is like one of those battles where you do everything to mitigate dice and you just watch Natural 1 after Natural 1 roll by... Oh well, at least it'll be over soon and I can go for a re-match.}

Well in regard to the charge, I figure if it meant additional damage, it would say additional damage. I take the first sentence to mean exactly what it means, in addition to the normal benefits (+2 to hit, incur no AoO) and hazards (-2 to AC, time enough to make only a single attack with potential to be slaughtered by lots of attacks afterward), you deal 4d6+6 damage with your gore. (or whatever it is in malanuus's case.) It says nothing about tacking on additional damage to the original d8+2 or whatever it is for Mal.
But yeah, like you said, you missed anyway. I guess that's what happens when you roll a 4 and your opponent rolls in the double digits back to back. And monk gets a +7 to hit with that flurry, he has weapon focus with those bad boys for some reason. Not that it mattered in that case.
You just have to trust in the heart of the dice. This one's gonna be interesting.

As the fight ensues, small but quick pair of hands reaches out, in a flash, and returns, holding a chicken leg. the waitress never even realizes it, as the halfling turns, eating the newfound meat greedily. He watches the fight, keeping his eyes on the Mino. 'Yes, I remember. Soon you will too. Perhaps then you will look up to a halfling for once...'
Gilbert then feels the pain rise, as it escapes his mouth with a loud BELCH. "Oops!" is all he says, grinning with a mouth full of chicken.
He then hears the half-giants words of encouragement. 'Horns, huh, couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with that reckless attack!'
"Slap that cow around some more!" Gilbert yells, grinning all the while....

Kieron's hands ached and now bled slightly. The minotaurs body was like stone, but it bled like any other. Kieron does his best to avoid the blows rained down by Malanuus and seeing an opening lunges at the minoaturs barrel chest. His first blow aimed just above the pectoral muscle and the second, a crushing elbow to Malanuus' ribs.
OK, stunning fist on first attack (DC 17 save) and other flurry as normal. Both at +7 to hit, d8 +3 damage

Malanuus readjusts to pull himself together. Well this monk was proving to be quite the nuissance, evading the minotaur while taking every cheap shot he could in the process. Malanuus is determined to put an end to Kieron's affair with Lady Luck, but now he realizes that he must do it quickly or else he could very well be put out before his time. With a violent swipe, the minotaur hooks his gauntleted fist into the monk's left temple. Bone cracks and blood flows as Kieron's head jerks sideways with the impact (Attk = 30 dmg= 10) But his work is not quite complete. Malanuus lowers his head once more, bringing his horns down in hopes that they would soon be covered in the blood of his foe. But again the minotaur comes up with nothing. It seems that the monk has become wary of these horns, quick to dodge aside lest he be impaled completely. (attk= 15) Ignoring the pain and the blood dripping from his wounds, Kieron tries his best to keep hope alive. Entering into this battle, it seemed as if he did not stand a chance against the towering mass of muscle, but now he is quickly beginning to realize that he had been challenged to a monk's game, and he was indeed a monk. He could not allow himself to be bested by this minotaur who knew nothing of the intricacies of unarmed combat. It is an artform afterall, not simply a matter of who was the strongest. With these thoughts in mind, Kieron launches his attacks. The first punch finds its mark and though malanuus feels little pain, an overwhelming numbness takes hold of his body. (attk= 23 dmg= 4 stunning fist fort save DC 17 roll= 3 + 7=10, Fail) Malanuus feels the shock pulsing within his body. The monk has done something, hit a nerve. He finds himself faced with the panic of having lost control of his own physical being. The monk and the faces looking on in the arena become blurry as Malanuus stands stunned. And Kieron does not relent, laying into the minotaur yet again. Once more his fist finds its mark as he attempts to bring this fight to an end. (Attk= 14 dmg= 5. total damage taken this round = 9) Malanuus, you are hereby stunned for 1 round. You may take actions normally after Kieron's next initiative unless he pulls this little stunt again. Stunned A stunned creature drops everything held, can’t take actions, takes a -2 penalty to AC, and loses his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any). Though this will not be in effect during Kieron's next attacks as you will no longer be stunned on the moment before he takes his next action.
