Sean sits back and thinks back on a story told to him long long ago, it was this story that originally made him want to become a Teller of Grand Tales. It is a story of death and a story of life.
"Ages ago, before New Ravenshead was even a thought in the mind of the king, the land was much much different than it is today. The original Ravenshead stood in a field of green, lush life. Unfortunatly it was a last bastion of Strength." Sean grows sorrowful, he lives his story in his imagination as he tells it.
"A ruler of undead came out of the north, slaughtering and destroying. Entire cities, nations, and people fell to him. These were the darkest of days. It seemed that the world was doomed, lost forever to the clutches of evil undead spawn.
You would think that against such a foe the races could unite!
Alas, no, the elves haughty as they could be hid away in their forest thinking that the Undead could never penetrate their leaves.
The Dwarves hid in their caves, thinking to block out the world above and forever live in darkness.
The humans each defended their own cities. The half-giants, and other desert-dwellers tried to defend what is now called the Dune Palace.
Each race scattered and seeking nothing but their own safety could never unite... Untill one day, when a magical artifact of unknown origin appeared in the very streets of Ravenshead! It was powerful enough to protect the city from harm... for a time, for one city cannot stand alone against all the might of the legions of the undead.
So the King himself came down the steps tobeseech the public for aid. For he had not a knight or guard to spare to search for more such artifacts, for with one less man the city must fall. For the city was already nigh defeated!
The King spoke to his people, unique in almost all the land he spoke true and from the heart. Such a speech did he give that it gave heart to the crowd. Twelve stood forth. Twelve citizens of Ravenshead. Not of nobel birth, or warrior training, but twelve citizens who decided that what was right, was worth fighting for.
And these were not just all of one race, six humans, a half-giant, two dwarves, and even a couple haughty elves. But it was not just the larger folk who would stand for what is right, a halfling there was as well. These twelve came foward as citizens, but left as heroes!
They searched for the magical artifacts near and far, often battleing through the undead forces to find them. They did amazingly well for people who had never before worked together what so ever. They were well on their way to victory when something went wrong. Elves to were searching for these ultimate artifacts and their powers, but they wanted them to destroy all non-elves altogether, not just the undead. It was rather near Ravenshead where they were attacked and trapped by elves. Some were captured and taken hostage, others survived and managed to escape. But two of them, humans were lost, some say their spirits showed up and aided their companions later.
Those that the elves captured put up such a fight, and proved to be so tenacious that they impressed even the elven Queen. When she offered them their lives in exchange for aid in recovering the artifacts for the elves the group originally thought to turn her down and accept honorable death as payment. But stupid they were not, instead they agreed to find the crystals, but after gathering most of the artifacts they betrayed the elves in return and took the artifacts to Ravenshead to aid the King and save the world from the undead.
Now those not captured had it even harder than to put up with elves, and to fight off the queen. They traveled to Hell and fought the devil himself for one of the artifacts. The artifact they recovered... but two of their companions were lost. Once more rumors say that they would not be bowed to the Lords control and thus broke his hold on themselves to come back and aid their companions at a later date.
The two groups reunited at Ravenshead with almost enough artifacts to banish the Evil lord entirely. But time had run out, the Lord brought his most evil and trusted minions to bare, and was attacking Ravenshead itself! These now eight figures of destiny rode out to do battle with him themselves, for if you cut the head off of a snake, the body dies. They hoped that with his demise they may have a chance at defeating the legions assulting their city.
The gods were on their side as they approached his moving castle, carried by a hundred foot giant. It was a tough fight getting in, but in they got. They fought their way to his throne room and found him. It was time to end it..."
Sean pauses his story and looks at his audience. "Smart were the Legendary eight... but the Lord had ages and ages to develope his plan, for he was undead himself! They rounded the staircase and saw him by himself. They thought they would attack and defeat him once and for all! They rushed foward to do battle as he sat on his throne, and with a yell... they crashed into an invisable wall. The Lord knew that these were the infidels who had destroyed his most precious of armies and he wanted them dead, but he was no idiot. He got off of his throne and was going to start torturing the Heroes, but unbeknownst to him, in all his power, the little halfling had slipped up a small hole to appear behind his thone! Now while this halfling was no genius, he had spent enough time around sorcerers to know that such a spell would need a trigger... and there it was, on the very throne the Lord had been sitting on, a small lever. As the Lord approached the shield, in full confidance that no one would be able to touch him, the halfling threw the switch, and brought about the destruction of the evil lord!
Even the smallest of us can be the most heroic, or the largest the least heroic.
For who, especially in these easy times, would go forth and risk their lives for what is right? You three, you three have already started down the path of legends. And unlike those who have gone before, I will go with you, so that your names will not be forgotten!"
(ooc: ok actually now I must think upon this story didn't think i'd actually make the check
Edit: Wow, its not the real story exactly, but things change over time, i feel bad about having to leave out so much important information but i have a feeling we will get to know this story much much better before we are done with this campaign
