Chapter 1 Summary: The group has come across a man named Clyde Wolden in their travels. The man, who is under the effects of a powerful enchantment spell, described a horrible monster that's been attacking the village of Tempest Gorge, as well as a half-dragon named Noladrahsa who set off up the mountain to slay the beast, but hasn't been heard from since.

Tyvek's righteously minded companions were quick to offer their aid but he doubted their god had given them means either to reach the village in any reasonable time or to give fight to a being as swift as a dragon.
It would take Glyphe and the half giant two hours to reach the village on foot, the others could be brought by teleportation in much the same time. Still it would leave them split and unprepared, and Tyvek doubted the group's ability to repell such a creature in his absence...
[edit - stupid mistake removed, didn't read spell duration]

Eresh listened and waited silently while Coppertop and Tyvek interrogated the man, resting on a mossy rock nearby. It wasn’t revealed to him why they kept it this long. From the beginning, he was sure that Coppertop and the devil would accept the man’s plea. They weren’t the kind that could say no to people in need.
And right they were. Tyvek need not worry about their hasty decision. So, Eresh spoke. “There is the possibility that this Clyde could be deceiving us, Tyvek” he squeezed the peasant’s left shoulder sincerely and smiled at him. “but should we care?”
Tightening his grip to the point where its painful, he went on, “At the end of this, we will hopefully be roughing something up. If he is hiding something, you know what, we can have a change of heart and rough him up. See, there’s nothing to think about.”
Returning to his companions, he asked, “Shall I break the enchantment on him? Even if he loses memory about the subject or something, he prolly has told all he knows.”
That said, he proceeds to dispel the man if his companions do not object.

Having no objection to a dispel attempt, Brim stands by and watches. In the meantime, he muses about the trip. A day's travel or a bit more unless sped up by some means. He wonders how it is that this bespelled fellow made it all the way down here. Surely the enchantment has something to do with him standing here, lingering near death to save his precious Nola.
A puzzle that hopefully Ereshkigal will supply the means to solve.

Seeing no reason to interfere Coppertop watches the arcanist at work. There might yet be more information...

Much to Eresh's surprise, the enchantment does not dissipate from Clyde. The man stares at Eresh impatiently, "Well?"
(You fail the opposed caster level check.)

Tyvek shakes his head, this would go nowhere quickly. "I will go ahead, and dismiss the dragon should it still linger. I shall endeavour to return two hours from now."
Glyphe hands her travelling pack to Kurt and moves to attend the mage.
[It'll take Tyvek 16 1/2 minutes to cross 30 miles, the 2 hour figure assumes that he'd stop to get a good teleport lock]

Brim shakes his head. "Always impatient." He starts walking. He's not sure how the mage plans to 'dismiss' the dragon, but he's convinced it will be more complicated than that. He makes certain Clyde is with them for the trip to town.

Never terribly far from his dark companion Coppertop makes certain that they've left nothing behind and begins the uphill trek. There were foul plots afoot in Tempest Gorge and very soon they would begin to unravel, if he had anything to say about it.
(lets get there and on to business)

Kurt sighs as he accepts the pack and nods towards the group to get them started on their way. As ever, Tyvek thinks he needs no help to fix things. Atleast Glyphe will be there with him.

Brim shakes his head. "Always impatient." "If you would prefer I left the place to it's fate so be it"Tyvek was impatient, but not as to the future of this village. If the dragon had wished it destroyed it would already be so, and if the creature simply came to feed then the people would be fools to stay so long. No, he was impatient at the progress of this expedition and his companions. The giant he could understand, he had made what he could of his small lot in life. But the others had squandered their potential; Dragon or no, it pained Tyvek that even such an errand presented such difficulties. Best to be done with it. Still facing Brimstone "It is you who have offered our services, so I defer to your wisdom. Do we rush to their aid, or do we make camp in the foothills and approach the village at daybreak?"(assuming he's not asked to stick with the party Tyvek should be able to see the village after about 15 minutes of travel. Four 12th level characters and not a riding dog between you, for shame )

Tyvek: As Tyvek gets closer to Tempest Gorge, the sky becomes more and more ominous. He feels static electricity building up in his body and, supported by a sudden electrical surge in the clouds, realizes the sky may not be the safest place.
(There will be consequences if you don't get close to the ground ...)

(There will be consequences if you don't get close to the ground ...) (I had planned to move at ground level anyway to avoid being spotted by the dragon, but lets see where the conversation goes first. In any event should Tyvek suspect a magically created or powered storm he will return immediately to the group, this would not be the work of such a small dragon and his concerns that the man might be leading them into a trap would be renewed)

Four 12th level characters and not a riding dog between you, for shame [This could've been a useful critique in the weeks leading up to the game's start. ] Brim seems indifferent to Tyvek's comings and goings--not that he doesn't value the wizard, but he simply has no capacity to control his wants or actions, regardless of what he may claim. "Scouting could be beneficial, and if you feel you can defeat the dragon, then do so," he states honestly. The wizard is certainly competent and able to judge his limitations.
He isn't upset about lacking a horse or needing to walk and continues to head in the indicated direction, being sure to take Clyde with them for consultation--and perhaps introductions. He has a feeling the situation is trickier than Tyvek believes, but perhaps it isn't.[Basically, do whatever you like. Anyone else not at all surprised that a place called Tempest Gorge has a persistent tempest over it?]

[Basically, do whatever you like. ] [Fair enough ] Tyvek will continue until such time as he spies the village or determines that the storm may pose some threat to himself or the group.

"Hah," Eresh protests, "you went haywire?" He points at the elf twice. "He might be good at defenestrating reality -or stuff, heh- but this is a dragon we're speaking about, yes? Or something." Eresh used the words "defenestrate" and "reality" in an unbelieving manner, only to ridicule magic related to anything but raw force.
"And I wouldn't want you to claim all the valour by yourself, Ty." He smiles. "Lets keep walking."

Tyvek: The storm does seem to be supernatural, but the effects on the landscape imply it has been raging for ages, not just the few weeks this monster has been terrorizing Tempest Gorge. The exact source of this elemental anomaly isn't readily apparent to Tyvek, which surprises and intrigues the incredibly intelligent mage.
Eventually, you see a village in the distance. It is a quaint town with about half its structures focused in a center marketplace and the other half isolated on individual farmsteads. It looks as though several hundred humans live here.

[Please continue yogge - I have nothing to add to Tyvek's original plan of assessing the place and returning, unless something (such as lack of damage) stands out] menatkhufu - I prepared Defenestrating Sphere this morning

(Oh, okay. I wasn't quite sure what Tyvek was aiming to do on his scouting trip.)
The group makes it to Tempest Gorge without incident. It's late afternoon and the town is void of activity. In the market area there appears to be an inn, several empty market stalls, and a larger wooden trading shop. A cluster of four homes lies to the southeast and an outdoor stage is located to the northeast.

[OOC - peers around]
Tyvek scans the area, committing the village and it's details to memory as Glyphe systematically checks each building. After an hour has passed he turns and returns to the group, it seems they needn't hurry.
