NEW FEATURES on KMans 10/04/2007

Hey everyone, you may have noticed the boards look a little different. I've been trying to spruce things up by adding some code from the ProBoards Support Coding Database. Some enhancements include;

• Highlighting the board you're hovering over with the mouse by turning it black.
  
• Breaking up the categories by adding spaces between them. I'm working on images to liven up the split.
  
• Adding an 'Expand/Collapse' feature so you can close boards you're not a part of. You can just click on the category name and it will collapse the boards until you're ready to expand them again.
  
• A whisper feature
  
• A spoiler text feature
  

To Use the New Features!

Feature	How to Use
Expand or Collapse Category Feature	Simply click on the category heading to expand or collapse the category and hide it from view. It should remember your selection and not open the board until you click it again.
The 'Whisper' Feature	When making a new post, click the icon and you will see a set of tags appear in your post. [whisper][/whisper] In the first Whisper tag, include an = sign and the names of the users you want to view the whisper separated by commas. I.E. [whisper=Japic,Bluspecs,TheZebraShakes™]Only Japic Shakes and BluSpecs can read this.[/whisper] Note: Admins can read all Whispers, so no talking about me! ALSO! Names are Case-Sensitive, so capitalize and spell correctly!
Spoiler Text Feature	When making a new post, click the icon and you will see a set of tags appear in your post. {spoiler}{/spoiler] Of course the normal [] should be used. Anything placed between these tags will not appear until clicked upon. There will be a small button in the post that says 'Show Spoiler' or 'Hide Spoiler' respectively.

If anyone knows of another enhancement they would like to see, please don't hesitate to ask.

Okay, my first thought was 'Who super-sized my boards??' Because the scroll images were, honestly, kind of frustrating. But once I read this message and realized I can collapse boards...

Oh hell yeah. This makes things much more manageable. It would be truly wonderful if the different sections were color-coded appropriately, instead of all being blue. That'd make it easier to find a board when I do want yo open it.

The highlighting thing was also cool. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally clicked on a board, when I was just clicking to activate the window and not clicking on the letters. Now I have a very visible warning telling me not to hit the button.

Yeah, I got rid of the scroll images for now...it was just me messing around. There are just black images right now to act as spacers until we decide what we want in their place.

As for color-coding Category headings, unfortunately I will have to do some digging to see if we can do that. Right now, ProBoards only allows one color heading and I've chosen blue. We can tone that down if you'd like.

I'm open to suggestion, from anybody.

lol...the 'hooray' may have been a bit premature. I changed the background color to brown to be easier on the eyes and nearly lost all color. I'm still digging to find the background color code to use, but I'll find it eventually.

That's a feature that would be COOL to have on the boards. The Whisper ability would be nice...

Interesting. I guess that's somewhat more convenient than a PM. Also saves the trouble of referring to a PM for a particular post - all secret communication is in one spot. Not totally necessary, though.

And yes, I see that my colors have vanished. But I have faith they will be back.m

I think I would use it. Not sure about anyone else though. Better than PM's in my opinion

Dark Reign seems cool, and the whisper tag would have been very useful during the secrets game.

I agree. Dark Reign looks kinda neat and Whisper will definitely get used.

Alright, I will see what I can do about adding the Whisper and Dark Reign RPG Features.

I'm also gonna make a sticky post about how to use the features (Maybe, if time allows).

Cool, I like the whispers, and will definitely find a way to use them.

The new colors and such are nice too. However, I noticed that, in my case at least, the opened and closed categories aren't remembered when you exit and return to the site. Not that that is a problem for me personally, since I probably will just keep every category open. It looks nicer that way.

Mine don't always stay open either. I did some testing, and it's not remembering the last settings, but randomly closes a thread I had opened. Don't know why...

Yeah, they are. I don't have the option of changing colors. Hopefully that isn't too bad. If you highlight it, it helps to tone down the color.

I have the same thing going on as Udjat, when I change computers, it changes settings. Maybe something to do with cookies? Fangor, check your settings, specifically with regards to the cookies you allow on your PC. That may help.

Yeah, It might. Or it might be what you connect through. My Changed when I went from school wireless, to home wireless.
