Haven't heard from him, no, though he seems to log in now and again. Our other AWOL member is Jolith, but I can hassle him personally about being missing.
They could be doing what I used to do - vanishing without warning for 6+ months, then jumping back in full-force. Arclite's guilty of this, too.

Yeah, I think he's taking classes, not sure. Good luck on finals to everyone that has them!

[Jolith's apparently just been busy at work, and sick. He'll be back in time, but he said not to wait on him.]

sucks that TTC isn't with us for this fight in Fangor's game.
But fortunately, in the game i'm running, a missing PC is not a huge deal at all, so Jolith and TTC being gone aren't going to slow things down for everyone else. So it works out well for a play by post.
On the downside, if they don't show up by the time KMan gets back, The shackled city campaign is going to move even slower than it already is.
I don't really like to play other people's characters for them so I'm trying not to make a habit of it. Only when it's going to get everyone killed if they don't do something quickly.
That's the downside of these types of online games. people having real lives and whatnot.

Well, I actually play online cause nobody has time anymore for real tabletop games. Perhaps they should invent roleplaying robots or something. You just turn them on and off when you start a game.
Things like this make me wonder. If Kman should ever decide to leave without notice for six months or so, would there still be a Kman's? Will Kman's still exist in ten years? Or twenty? Ah well, we'll see. I bet I'll still be around.

It'll keep going. Evenif it eventually ends up being called TZS-Man's Adventures.

Now that's funny Similar. Though it should prolly be more like TZS-Woman's adventures; to be fair to the fairer sex. Then again that sounds alot like Womens Studies, which does not attract gamers so much. Maybe we can shorten it down to Shakes' Adventures.

'Shakey Adventures'? That might be an accurate description.
I think our situation might be more precarious than some folks think, given that the loss of two or three regulars has so profoundly impacted games. But on the other hand, KMan's is hitting its 5-year anniversary this year I think, and that's pretty respectable.

Is it? Well, if there is a way to celebrate things online, that seems like a good reason to celebrate! What is the birthday of Kman's? Maybe we can arrange for a great spectacle in the arena, with characters from every game all lined up in a great knock-out tournament. Just a thought. I wouldn't be willing to DM it.

But on the other hand, KMan's is hitting its 5-year anniversary this year I think, and that's pretty respectable. I have to agree on both counts. I think that switching jobs has had a profound affect on my ability to be here as often as I used to. Which has made school and planning for the wedding more important and made it all that more difficult for me to appear at night. Compound that with the disappearance of several top posters and I think Udjat has it right...we have a problem. Historically, KMan's has always suffered in the Summers. People spend less time at their PCs and more time getting their Vitamin D from the sun. This time does seem particulalry damaging, but I'm hoping we can churn through it and keep on trucking. I enjoy this site, I love the games and people on here and I'll do my best to ensure I'm at least around as long as I can be. If this board ever does slowly come to a halt and die, I would hope that the collective few could at least stay in touch via email, or MySpace or something else. What is the birthday of Kman's? Maybe we can arrange for a great spectacle in the arena, with characters from every game all lined up in a great knock-out tournament. Just a thought. I wouldn't be willing to DM it. The date and specific time is in my profile as I was the first to register (thank god Shakes can't take that from me...can she?). That time is: Sept 5, 2003, 8:06am So we will be five years old this September. What I think it more important to note is not the length, but the quantity of posts per capita. We have a very finite group of people that consistently post on here and we have still managed nearly a hundred thousand posts!! That is crazy to think that those that do stick around post so much we could churn out two or three novels collectively a year. As for your idea Vemu, it would be interesting to at least offer some king of timeline or cross-universe story/game. I don't think I'll have time for anything this year, but I might try and do at least something special. 5 years...holy cow!

I declare the forum birthday to be September 5th. I base this off of KMan's 'registered on...' day, and because that was the date that both Tabloid Truths and Marionettes of the Demon started (the earleist two games to the best of my knowledge).
A big arena brawl is an idea, albeit a complicated and potentially unwieldy one. It could work, though. Or we could have the villains from each game duke it out! Heh.
We do have a long and illustrious history here. It'd be interesting to look over the ages in some manner.

Or a writing contest of sorts - we have a board for contests, don't we? The aim would be to make a cross-universe story based on all the games, characters, players, happenings and stuff that have been on Kman's sometime in its existence. Anything that has in some way to do with the boards' 5 year history can be used.

I'm more for the story over the brawl, but hey, either is OK by me. The stories can be released in one day and are finite and contained. The brawl could take...hell, months to run.
We could just open up the contest, set the rules (and develop prizes!) and see what we all come up with on September 5th?

Anything that has in some way to do with the boards' 5 year history can be used. I like this idea, but that's largely because I've already had it brewing as a game idea for several months. I was tentatively planning to run a cross-dimensional game that incorporated elements from as many of the games as I could manage (past and present). But I was sitting on it, because three games is plenty for me. So until XCrawl/Dark Sun end, I'm tapped out. A writing contest is cool, too. I could always transfer my existing idea into that...

Personally I wouldn't want to write a story as I do enough writing here already, but I'd be interested in reading what other people are able to come up with.
As for a huge battle, that would take a while to run, but if anyone wants to do a couple of little battles, I'd be willing to handle that, though I won't whip out any fancy maps and whatnot.
It is around that time though, when people start to disappear. It does suck for the games, but we make due with what we have and things tend to work out.
I don't really get to play D&D at all aside from what I do here at KMans, and others seem to be in the same boat. So as long as we're able to stick around it should be cool
Even if we have to do a complete overhaul and close some games so all of the remaining people can just play in a couple of games rather than spreading themselves to thin by tackling three or four or five in one shot.

I don't know about that, looking at the top posters, we don't really seem like the biggest computer nerds in the world. I think only four or five of us have webpages (if they can even pass for that) and sometimes I have to wonder if I'm the only person in the world who still tries to use emails to keep in touch with people (which is probably the case, 'cause I've lost touch with a lot of people.)
So basically, we just need to count on everyone to keep coming to this site if we hope to stay in touch. Even if all the games stop, at least pop in once in awhile to say hi and to update everyone on what's new in our lives.
But for now, everyone should try to spread the word about KMans to some other people out there to get more potential players/DMs in the mix.
