Hello everyone,
I couldn't think of a better way to get started around here, so I thought I'd just make a thread and say hi.
I kinda stumbled across this board by accident while looking for something else, and after taking a good look at it, I decided to give it a try.
I've been looking for an opportunity to play some RPGs again for quite a while, but didn't find one until now. But this community here seems to be really nice, so I thought that maybe I could join one of your games, if anyone still got a spot left for a new player.
I do have some experience with some RPG systems, but out of the ones that are played here, I have only played D&D 3.0 and 3.5, and I also haven't played online at all yet, so I guess it's best if you consider me a complete newcomer for the most part.
Well that's it from me for now, I'm really looking forard to playing with you guys.
Greeting, DW

Hello DW.
We're always glad to see new people coming around and giving Play by post roleplaying a try.
Hopefully you'll have fun once you get started in a game.
There are always new games getting started around here, and with the influx of new people, it shouldn't be too difficult to get some interested players.
So even if you can't find a game at the moment, don't worry, one will come along sometime soon, and people who are new to the boards will generally be offered first dibs at a spot in order to give you a chance to test your hand and see if you like it.
Everyone around here is friendly and helpful, so if ever you have any questions or just want to write some off topic stuff and get our take on it, feel free to post.
So good luck and have fun.

Good to have you aboard, I'm sure you will find a game relatively quickly, it seems like a game might be starting up in the Shorts section soon. Like Zebra said, new players get priority for games and since it is play by post, I wouldn't worry too much about being new to a system or even rusty. I mean I haven't played D&D in person in almost a decade and I don't think I even own any of the books anymore, I'm shoddy with some rules and all, but the GMs and players are more than happy to help out.
I'm sure you will be fine and I look forward to maybe playing a game with you.

Welcome! New Blood! uh, I mean, new player's lol. Games are always opening up every few months. I am running one right now that has a missing character. If you would like to get a feel for what this Play by Post gaming is all about, you have an option to check out a current character sheet, check his tendencies, and if it's ok with the rest of the players, you can finish out the current adventure module as this character.
That is, of course, until the end of the current module/adventure. Then, afterwards, if you feel up to continuing, you can create your own character, and join the next module. I figure it would give you a chance to see what this is all about. I am not as good at the DM'ing as some of the others here, but I try! Take a look at the campaign. Random Acts.
Thanks!

Welcome to the boards desertwolf!
It's always good to see new players getting involved, as some of the die-hard posters here would soon run out of time for going to work or school even if they were allowed to join all the games they could. =)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, and thank you Deekin and Fangor for inviting me to join your games. I'll definitely take a look at them and try to join if it's possible, although I don't really know much about 4e yet, so I guess I'll need some help to get started there if I'm able to join Deekins game.

Welcome, DW! Hope you will find what you are looking for. It seems that you have plenty of choice for games to join already, with two shorts open for you (which is a good game type to start with), but if you want to, take a look at my game, Rinascimento, as well. There's still one spot open. It's a little different from the usual D&D3.5, aiming for realism instead of powerful characters, so if that is your thing, let me know. Either way, ask if you need anything, and have fun!

Welcome!
As you can see, people around here are pretty friendly, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
With regards to games, there are indeed more opening up all the time. Deekin is doing a call for a 4th Edition D&D game--which would put you on level footing, since we're all new to 4th Edition. I'm also planning to open up a new series of games, tentatively planned as 'Short' adventures (Short in terms of online gaming means about 3 months in length). That will also be 4th Edition.
Fangor's suggestion is also a good one. We have a character in Random Acts whose player disappeared, and we'd be glad to have someone step in to control him if you'd like to test out Play-by-Post.
And so on. Just keep aware of the Campaign Status Board for any new games that open up. As TheZebraShakes said, DMs tend to give first preference to new players, so it shouldn't be hard to find a place.
Glad to have you aboard! I hope you find what you're looking for.

Seems most everyone else has rolled out the welcome wagon already, so I'll just say "welcome" and call it a day.
So, welcome!
Hopefully you'll find PbP gaming to your taste; it's definately different from the table top style. See ya around.

Well I followed your suggestions and took a look at those games you mentioned that have a spot open. They do indeed look interesting and it would be a pleasure to join up with you guys there.
As for Fangors game: I've looked at it and it looks like they could need another helping hand there just about now, since things seem to be getting kinda rough. So yeah tell me which character to look up, and if the others are cool with it I'll dive right in and try to help out. (I assume you were talking about Kanaan since his player seems to be the only one from your game who doesn't post anymore, but of course I might be mistaken).
And Vemu: Yes you could say that realistic RP is my thing, though I do love high powered games too. I am relatively unfamiliar with the setting you are playing, but I think after I get adjusted to it that shouldn't be too much of a problem. So yeah I'd really like to join your game as well.
I just hope it isn't a problem if a newcomer joins multiple games at once. I don't wanna take all the spots away from the veterans here who might be interested in joining these games as well.

No problem. Yes, you are right, Kanaan is the character that needs some guidance right now, as his player has disappeared, more likely due to school. Read up the character sheet, and let me know if you have any questions. When you are ready, post away!

Hello Desertwolf! I'm barely in a situation to offer you much welcome as I arrived at about the same time as you, but I'll do it anyway. "Welcome!" And it feels good not to be the only newcomer around.
Apart from that I'll now shamelessly abuse your board to introduce myself as well. My boyfriend is a long-time lurker here at KMan's and one evening exclaimed alarmed "They need players!". I automatically answered "Who?" and at the end of the explanation that followed I decided to give it a tryto play here as I was really intrigued by what he told me about the games here. I play some RPG offline as well, mainly Shadowrun and some Buffy and will join a Spirit of the Century game soon. As English isn't my first language I'm always grateful to have my grammar and spelling mistakes pointed out to me and I hope that playing here will improve my language skills, especially my style. Hopefully there won't be too many misunderstandings between the characters because of me. Thanks to everybody for making it possible that I could join a game that quick!
-Piran

Welcome too, Piran! Don't worry with the language, you're not the only person here with English as a second language. I'm Dutch myself. So far, I can understand you quite fine. I'm sure there will be plenty of games opening up for you too, it's that time again when all over the boards people are starting new games. My own game Rinascimento is full now that DesertWolf has joined, but if nothing else comes to you I can always make an exception. Have fun!

Once again thanks everyone for welcoming me like this. I'm already starting to get involved in games too, I'm almost ready to post my first character for Rinascimento, and I took on the role of Kanaan in Random Acts with Fangors ok (just waiting for an opportunity to make my first post there). It's really cool how you guys helped me to get involved here so fast.
And hey Piran, good to know I'm not the only newcomer here.
And don't worry about the language thing. I'm from germany, so it's not like you are the only one here who doesn't have english as her native language.

Hopefully there won't be too many misunderstandings between the characters because of me. -Piran I once played a character who was so cowboy, he scared another player out of the game.
