As some may be aware, several of us have gotten it into our heads to do a Short on here. I volunteered to run it. But the problem I have now is… what game do I run?
Since players are necessary for whatever game is selected, I thought it best to turn to all of you and take a quick poll. Please only vote if you plan to play. You can vote for as many of the options as you want, so only vote for games that you will definitely play—if that’s all of them, cool, vote for everything. But this allows some room to be selective.
Regardless of the setting, all games will use the True20 system, adjusted for whatever time period and style is selected. This is, after all, meant to be a learning experience as well as something fun to do. Updates for any new game will ideally be 3 times per week, so be prepared to post that often. Bear in mind that even though this is a Short, it will still endure for several months. Be prepared for that, too. Nothing kills a game like disappearing players.
I’m looking for 3-6 players, so any game needs at least 3 votes to be run. The one with the most wins, obviously. The games are:
A Really Bad Night – The characters take the roles of average people who are quite unexpectedly subjected to very extraordinary circumstances. The supernatural comes knocking, and the Short centers on the group’s efforts to survive the night and live to see another day. Survival Horror.
Raiders! – The little post-apocalyptic town of Federal has been eking out an existence as long as any of its inhabitants can remember, always grazing the edge of famine, destruction, or some other calamity. But a recent incursion by bloodthirsty raiders proves to be the biggest threat they’ve faced yet, and may end in the town’s complete annihilation. Characters take the role of characters inside the town, be they passing through or actual inhabitants. Setting is based on the popular Fallout series. Post-apocalyptic.
The Apprentice’s Errand – You have studied and worked and longed for years to become a magus, one of the wise, powerful and feared. Already you have mastered the rotes taught to you, done everything your master instructed, and now comes the biggest test—to go out into the world with a small group of others to scout out a location for the Covenant elders. If you return successful, surely they will make you a full-fledged wizard. Characters can be apprentice magi (there can be more than one) or other companions aiding in the quest. Set in Ars Magica’s mythic Europe, but with no system alterations (for sake of ease). Could roll into a longer campaign, but no special effort will be made to do so for the Short. Historical Fantasy.
On the Trail of the Mad Alchemist – The Kinsey Detective Agency has had a respectable reputation throughout the decadent Aphrodite Empire, known as people that can get a job done no matter the consequences or obstacles. In fact, more people are known to be wary of a Kinsey Detective than an Imperial Inquisitor—maybe that’s why the Empress’s people came to Kinsey this time around for help in tracking a rebellious alchemical genius who threatens the very stability of the Empire. It’ll be a tough job, but the pay is good, and a Kinsey Detective always catches her quarry. This is set in the Venusian Skies campaign setting, my very own homebrew, a Victorian-style supernatural setting on a terraformed Venus. Adventure/Mystery RPG.
So, what strikes your fancy? Anything?
