As a climber that whole situation was a disgrace. The guy is an idiot for being out their alone in the first place, you don’t go out and climb sand stone solo. That shit is notorious for falling apart in large peaces, the guys previous feats include bringing down an avalanche on himself and his fellow climbers. This guy was out looking for trouble and found it. That’s not guts, that’s stupidity. O’ how I hate stupid people!!  |

It was both guts AND stupidity. Just because he got himself into that situation with his own stupidity doesn't mean he can't show fortitude in getting himself OUT.

Granted it does take moxey to cut ones own arm off with a pocket knife, but it is an avoidable situation, killing a shark to protect you crew, with you bare hands and a pocket knife, that is much more noble in my mind I guess. I just don’t like the fact that people look at this guy as some sort of wonderful example of how to survive in the wilderness. A true wilderness expert would not have been in the situation in the first place and the guys who are the real bad asses don’t go looking for press time. P.S. not trying to flame you at all I just herd about this dumb ass for three months at the gym I work at and have grown jaded.  |
