That's what Commander's strike is for--staying back and letting other people take the punishment. Are you wearing chain or hide: with Gabe's intelligence, your AC is probably higher in hide armor. Having a shield instead of a pole arm probably wouldn't hurt, either. I was looking at cross class, and having a tactical Warlord cross into Wizard looks attractive--particularly if you take flame burst. Gabe is wearing Hide armor and yes most of his AC bonus is from his Intelligence, I'm more worried about ranged attacks the good thing about the polearm is I can use commander's strike from outside most mob's range. It's a melee power, so unless I could actually hit the creature I can't grant the attack to someone else. My advancement plans are exactly that, multiclass wizards & scorching burst, knight's move utility and swap viper's strike with wolf pack tactics.
Subtle point--I missed that. I had assumed it was any target, as long as it was in melee range of an ally, but a closer read of the "melee weapon" descriptor would imply it has to be in melee range of you, wouldn't it? That changes things a bit (and makes me want to look for a one-handed range two melee weapon, regardless of how little damage it does or the weapon proficiency to use it. Whip, anyone?).

Gabe stares at the bones for a moment, "Let's dig him out, he might have some form of identification on him" then turning to Thursagen, "You better direct, I don't want to cause another cave in." He'll then start moving rubble unless Thursagen thinks it's unsafe. Thursagan will help, while checking for the stability of the cave walls. Is there a shovel/pick in the room? There are a couple of shovels in the room, and a pick can be found in the armory. They don't have to dig far to find that their efforts might be rewarded. Once they get to the ankle, the can see that the long dead bones were wearing hide armor. Amazingly it seems to be still intact, although there is no signs of a boot.

We keep digging until it is safe to retrieve the body, and then examine the armor. It is a good sign that is intact after being behind all that rubble!

It takes a while (about an hour and a half), long enough for Harknail's torch to burn out and for him to need to light another. It looked odd to see someone pull a torch out of their shoulder, use it to light a fresh torch, and stick that into their shoulder.
Once uncovered they can see that the face down figure had been crushed to death, all his ribs were broken and his skull smashed. It looks like he was caught in the cave-in and died instantly. Yet his hide armor was still intact. Also found were the remains of his backpack and other gear, though most of it was decayed or corroded. The only items still intact are the flint of a flint and steel set and a craghammer that was beside him.

The dwarven fighter uses one, right?

It's a superior hammer, versatile, and brutal 2. The last means that you reroll any one or twos when rolling a d10 damage. It's the hammer equivalent to a bastard sword. A better weapon, but you have to take a feat to use it. The Bastard sword hits more often, the craghammer does more damage. And both are superior to weapons a fighter can use without a feat.

Thursagan picks up the craghammer, and appraises it. He will be unaware of his surroundings for a while, because for him weapons are a work of art, beyond the craftsmanship.
OOC: I was confused with the brutal property, just rounding up to 3 when a 1 or 2 showed up. Next rolls I will change to the real definition, thanks!

So the Dwarven weapon feet covers it? Any other nifty superior weapons in there? (Doesn't help Doran much--his +1 is only for daggers, and his weapon damage is really not an important fraction of the damage he does).

OOC: The other nifty superior for dwarves is the waraxe, 1d12 one handed axe. That feat is like having two feats in one: fixed weapon focus + superior weapon proficiency; I would say a must have for any martial dwarf. For rogues you have the rapier as superior weapon. It increases the damage die to 1d8 while keeping the light blade class and proficiency bonus. For brutal rogues can be an option, if you don't mind losing the +1 for daggers

Rapiers are also no good for the dagger master. Now, if there was a "Duelist" that gave proficiency in rapier and exchanged the +1 with daggers for a +1 with rapier, then we're talking.

Examination shows the Craghammer to be a staggering weapon. On a critical hit it does +1d6 damage and knocks the target prone. When used with a power that force movement (like Tide of Iron), you can move the target 1 additional square. And once per day after a successful hit you can move the target one square.
PS: Its a Staggering Craghammer +1 (I forgot the +1 part)

Examination of the ancient armor reveals it to be Armor of Necrotic Resistance +1. Besides making the wearer harder to hit than normal armor, it reduces any necrotic damage done to it's wearer by 5.

While the delay was longer than they might have liked, it proved very profitable in making the group better able to face the dangers before them.
OOC: What next?

I presume the hide will go to Gabe? What passages lead in?

The group came in though the door at D11 (that door is no longer there). They have explored the top of the map pretty thoroughly at this point, but haven't done much exploring at the bottom of the map.
Doing the obvious checks you find there is a ledge 10 feet above the floor with no easy way to get up there. While the doors in the top half open into the cavern, the doors at the bottom both open away from the cavern.
Peeking though the doors in both cases you find a short corridor and another door. The door at E24 is unlocked while the door at Q24 is bared from the other side. There is a stench of death coming from the Q24 door. Yet the door at E24 seems to be the most used based on the amount of scuff marks on the floor (you can see where the glowing slime used to grow).

Gabe is a bit surprised it took so long and a bit regretful that his suggestion wasted so much time even though it seems to have provided the party with some useful items.
After hearing the description of the armour he looks at Howahkan, "Necrotic Resistance, sounds useful against the forces of the undead. This may be of use to you." Gabe will offer the armour to Howahkan and only if he doesn't want it for some reason will he consent to wearing it.
Once Howahkan's made up his mind Gabe will help get everyone back into order and take the path suggested by him, "I wouldn't mind checking that ledge but let's get to our target first as we have already wasted enough time here."

"Perfect for me. Some properties on this hammer will be better experienced in battle" says Thursagan and follows Gabe. In fact, he takes his place on the head on the party and wields his shield again.
OOC: Thanks for the election of weapon, fits perfect with the character
