Good story. It certainly does take some time to read though.
The worst part about this story, is that a few months ago I went to Cave of the Winds (a cave structure here in CO) with my girlfriend. They have a crappy tour along ligted paths showing you all these pretty formations, but the next tour up from that is what they acall a Lantern Tour. We got to go into deep parts of the cave, where there is no light. It's just a cave, and you get these little candle powered lanterns to light the way. There were times when standing at the back of the group, with darkness pressing in all around, pitch black caverns behind me, I felt the apprehension he expresses in the story. The feeling that something is there breathing down your neck, and if you look fast enough, you just may catch a glimpse. It was spooky as shit. The tour was fun, and I'm not sure I can accurately convey the feeling of being in the middle of a mountain, with nothing more than 20 candles lighting the way. There was even a portion of this tunnel that was only about 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide with an unnatural wind blowing through it. I had to lead the group through it with only the light of a single candle to show the way. Spooky.
--Addendum-- Thinking about it. We should head down there for a spelunking tour. What say you KMan, BluSpecs, Merv? You guys up for it? We'd have to set up a date in advance, make the reservation, and then drive down there. Bring your women folk if they're interested, I think mine would be. You wanna?

I’d be up for it, last time I was down their was with scouts, that was a hella tour we spent something like three hours in the caves going into areas they don’t normally let groups go, The thing I remember was the “birth canal” I’ve never been claustrophobic, but when your squeezing through something that is little bigger than you head you get nervous.

Birth canal? Sounds like you'd get cuts all over from going through THAT.

Actually it was vary slimy and muddy if I remember correctly, hundreds of years of slowly running water tend to wear away any coarse points.
