Unfortunately the fireball only knocked him unconscience. We took him back to the ship for interrogation, that's when the debate ensues. Well actually, thinking on it, the debate ensued after one of our compatriots tried to torture some kind of info out of him by nailing his feet to the floor. He was a little more cooperative after that. His suggestion was a Minor Geas, to keep us all in line. He says I require 1 brain with intelligence of 16 or up each month, or I eat you. At first capturing intelligent Hammer's peeps sounded likea good idea, but then we realized how difficult that may become. Besides which, then we have to find one each month, and manage to not kill him. Something tells me he/she won't come willingly. They'll be fighting to their last breath. The other problem here is that the Hammer has learned to cover it's ass everytime we get a good blow in. So we can't pull the same crap twice. As soon as we start capturing their smartie pants wizards, they are gonna make it harder each time we try. New obstacles each go. It's a real bitch dealing with these jerkoffs.
--ADDENDUM-- Hey merv, this one was short compared the the others. Stan wanted to do it, you didn't, we had peeps on both sides of the board. I ended it though. Stan wasn't happy, but I fixed it. <devilish grin inserted here>#nosmileys

Holy hell - Int 16? That is quite hard to find.
In that case I think I'm still for some Illithid Brain Stew. Really, I just can't think of a good, acceptable reason to cooperate with this thing.

...and neither could they.
Thus they killed it and left it for dead.
Alright, the PCs also came across a story of a dragon whose draconic name literally translated into "BloodSnot". Well as it turns out, BloodSnot knew Merv's (Silver Dragon) father, and in fact had a tussle with him a few days before the WyrmSlaughter. (The battle where The Hammer killed all but a few of the last true dragons.)
BloodSnot was seen as a rebel for he spoke of prophetic things...things the good dragons didn't want to hear. Specifically Merv's Father for BloodSnot could see the betrayal the Silver Dragon would lay on his kind. So Merv's Father had him locked in an everchanging maze of darkness days before the battle where he was responsible for eliminating dragon-kind.
The PCs get wind of BloodSnot and go to visit him. He's gone mad in his prison of darkness and invisible shifting walls so he speaks fluent crazy talk. The PCs have no idea, at the time, why he's in there. Only that he fought with Merv's dad who they didn't know had turned evil.
The dilemma? Do we turn BloodSnot loose upon the world in exchange for what he knows? He IS after all a red dragon, inherently evil, and was imprisoned by a Silver Dragon.

Yes. Turn him loose on the Hammer. Might even be able to buff him up with the right magical gear...
Of course, that's Contra thinking.
