Zynthis: "Sart, please quietly unlock the door and stand back." Sart calmly and quietly attempts to unlock the door (taking 10), but without thieves tools she's not able to succeed. She tries again, trying variations that might either help or hinder the effort: [dice=20] And she succeeds easily. Once the door is unlocked she goes and hides in the far corner of the room.[rand=8386748104821891444184211781248457794899328146135095995876472443]

Zynthis: "So are we going to try to bring them us or do we rush in swinging? Either way, we should try to take out their spell caster first."

"Sart said she didn't hear anything on the other side of the door, and it seems reasonably likely that the ice elemental creatures were restricted to the vicinity of those blue flames. Don't get so caught up re-fighting the last battle that you miss the next one. For all we know, the next room might be full of mechanical cockroaches that won't start moving until we step in."

Zynthis moving to the door: "Well let's see what's in there." Zynthis attempts to quietly crack the door open just enough to get a peek of whats inside.

Zynthis opens the door all the way and turns to the party with disappointment "Ahh, it just a bedroom"

The bedroom is huge, 25' by 50' The bed on the north wall is 10'x10'! The decor continues the devilish theme found throughout the tower, but here everything is of the finest quality, or was. The silk hangings that line the east wall except for the entrance are now stiff and brittle.
There is a bookcase covering most of the south wall, wrapping around the corner to the west wall. The west wall contains a large fireplace, with some weird looking potted plants (dead of course) on either side. Facing the fireplace is an 8' long padded sofa, though the padding is frozen and stiff. And at the north end of the west wall is another bookcase.
The bookcases in the bedroom are not full, nor were they protected from the cold.
I'm assuming no one touched the books in the previous room since there were obviously magically protected somehow. If someone does want to examine those books, let me know.

"What in the world would one man need with such a huge bed? Wait, don't answer that."
On the books, what would be needed to determine how to safely examine them?

As for the magically protected books, an Arcana check is appropriate to figure out the nature of the protection spell. The better the roll the more info you find.

Zynthis will enter the bedroom and searches under the mattress. There's bound to be a big treasure under there, right?

Gabe follows Zynthis, being ever watchful and careful. Preparing to strike at any foul creature living under the giant mattress. Convinced there is bound to be something big under there, and it's definitely not treasure.

Laira Elereth is going to examine the magical protection on the books 29 (natural 20) and comments, "We should be happy nothing is in the next room. With all of the noise most people are making, they would have known you were coming, oh, and your battle plans as well." Moving such a large frozen mattress is difficult, but underneath Zynthis finds a small figurine that had been tucked underneath. It is carved in the shape of a barking dog and is made of some smooth black stone.10

With all of the noise most people are making, they would have known you were coming, oh, and your battle plans as well." Laira sees that the protective spell isn't specific to cold, but rather protects the books from any elemental or eldritch damage. The spell even protects the books from dust. But there is also a detection spell, if anyone other than the caster touches any of these books another spell somewhere in the room will be activated. Laira looks around but the only other magical auras she can see are on the two reading lamps with their small everburning jets of flame. Laira thinks she can breaks the spells, but if she does the books will loose their protection from the cold.

Gabe smiles, returns his Glaive to the leather loops on his back designed for holding it and starts to search the rest of the room, "anything interesting back there?" He calls into the first room while he looks around, examining the books shelves for anything of value between the frozen books, taking a moment to look at the plants in wonder and searching any tables, the sofa and drawers that he may locate in his perusal.

He calls into the first room while he looks around, examining the books shelves for anything of value between the frozen books, taking a moment to look at the plants in wonder and searching any tables, the sofa and drawers that he may locate in his perusal. There are no tables in the bedroom, but there is a chest of drawers. Inside are neatly folded cloths. They had been of high quality, but none are still suitable to wear after being so long in the deep freeze of the chamber. While looked at the plants, Gabe realizes that he has seen drawings of plants like these, the twisted poisonous plants of Malbolge, the sixth hell. Passive religious check identified extraplaner plants.
