"When do you want me to start?" Thursagan has been patient during all the talk about magic, but now that there is something real to do he is eager to use his hammer.10 "Well, it might be useful if you could take a few swings at these desk lamps. They are currently keeping us from examining the books. Try not to break anything else, though. Oh, and everyone should probably step back." Zack takes out his notebook to take notes.

Here we go, first blow: Attack: Damage: [dice=10] [dice=10] [dice=10] That is the weakest blow that he can make, but he will keep bashing until they are either destroyed or anything happens. Do we need more dice rolls?[rand=610025692731142717334294691681965902639087289579774499218910933]

No, there is no time pressure so dice rolls aren't needed.
Thursagan beats on a desk lamp until it's just scrap metal and it's flame jet goes out. Then he does the same for the other desk lamp. Zachary confirms that there is no longer a magical aura on the remains of the lamps.

Gabe turns back to the books, "protected from the cold and yet still readable in safety now?" He reaches up to take one randomly off the shelf.

Gabe turns back to the books, "protected from the cold and yet still readable in safety now?" He reaches up to take one randomly off the shelf. As soon as the book leaves the bookcase the long delayed flash freeze takes place, leaving the pages of the book instantly frozen. But this didn't happen until the book was no longer touching the bookcase. Obviously the protection spell was on the bookcases, not the books themselves. The book in Gabe's hands can still be read carefully and the pages do not seem quite as brittle as the books that have been frozen for decades.

Zack will collect the pieces of the lamps (or at least a few choice pieces) for further study or just in the hopes of extracting some useful components out of them. It occurs to me that magical items can be disenchanted for 1/5 value. Wouldn't that still apply (at least to some extent) to the surviving pieces of a broken magic item, or perhaps even the bodies of destroyed magic constructs?

By the way, does the elevator go up another floor, or is this it?

No, once it's broken to the point that it's no longer magical there is nothing to disenchant from the pieces. Also constructs don't have a value to make to tell me how much residuum you would get.No, this is as far as it goes.

Zynthis looks for any other way to go upward. If not then are there any secret doors? Zynthis searches....

Gabe sits on the desk (assuming some of the desk is still present to sit on and the poor thing wasn't an unfortunate bit of collateral damage is the attack on the lamps) and slowly turns the pages of the book in his hands, "The bookshelf was protected against the cold and a trap was set against those who would interfere with it. There's something important in those books, or perhaps on the other side of the bookshelf." He muses out loud while carefully reading through the book in his hands.

"Okay, lets look through the books to see if we can get an idea of what is making everything so cold." So, how will this work? Arcana checks all around?

Zynthis looks for any other way to go upward. If not then are there any secret doors? Zynthis searches.... The bedroom and library combined form a think L shape making it likely that there is a secret room on this level. In the Library, most of the north wall is covered by a long bookcase (only about 2 feet of bare wall at either end of the bookcase). The bookcase is only about waist high, with assorted devilish themed nick-knacks on the top (none of any obvious value). The west wall of the bedroom is covered with tapestries, stiff and brittle from the cold.

"Okay, lets look through the books to see if we can get an idea of what is making everything so cold." So, how will this work? Arcana checks all around? Mostly just time while many books are examined briefly. If a book is opened while still in contact with the bookcase (slide it out and open it on the shelf) the book does not freeze and the pages can be turned normally. Meanwhile Zynthis is looking for doors...

"Hey, Zynthis? My money is on the tapestries, though you might have to thaw them some." Zynthis will cut whatever is holding the tapestries up and will try to catch them so they won't shatter when they hit the ground.

"Hey, Zynthis? My money is on the tapestries, though you might have to thaw them some." The tapestries can be moved without thawing, though they are prone to cracking. But unlike the books, I don't think anyone cares. Anyone searching for secret doors, send a perception check. Those studying the books to see what the library is about don't need to role. So far it looks like most of the books are research notes, along with some ritual books. Unfortunately the ritual books aren't in the normal form and would need to be rewritten in order to use those rituals.

Gabe gives up with the first book he had and starts flipping through other books, keeping them on the shelf to prevent the chill from making life difficult. "Let me know if you fella's find anything over there." He resumed his thoughtful readings.

Zynthis in goblin: "Sart, come here and see if you see anything on this wall." Pointing to the wall the tapestry was on.
