"Hmm... wonder what that was about..." Rolan ponders. He then turns to Salyyn. "Your friend may have gotten a view of it... come to think of it... I don't think you have introduced him yet."

"His name is Kenny, he doesn't talk much I am afraid."[/d] Salyyn says with a look at Kenny and the first time you have ever seen real kindness in his face shows.
[glow=limegreen,2,300]So i am pretty sure he can talk with whatever magic animates him, but if i am wrong just say i didn't say anthing after this.[/glow]
"Kenny come here a second please. Please inform us of what was in that scroll." Salyyns frozen eyes seem to melt a bit as he speaks with Kenny, there is a friendship in them that surpasses even his abnormal nature.

So i am pretty sure he can talk with whatever magic animates him It's a common skeletal warrior, incapable of speech without additional enchantment, but i'll allow it to have a form of familiar empathy and benefit from the use of a ghost sound spell (from Salyyns daily limit) to temporarily speak. A permanant ghost sound will allow for permanant speech. The hooded figure approaches as commanded, standing silently by the table. Salyyns whispers something quietly to himself in a language neither Rolan nor Vadania recognise, and then Kenny speaks - a dry rasping whisper, all of his words delivered as a single unbroken sentance without pause for breath or effect. "By authority of the Sapphire Guard and his lordship Ulthar the Just, on the eve of Haversford in the Year of Ill Fortune, the town of Clearwater is seeking mercenaries for protection of trade and farmland."Kenny stops as abruptly as he began.

"Interesting... This might be something to look into." Rolan then turns to the others. "What say you? Would you like to earn a little money?"

"I am a mortician not a fighter... but a little coin may aid me in settling." Salyyn says. "Kenny here can always help as well. So i suppose we shall aid you... human." The last word isn't quite a sneer but it is obvious that the race in general is of lesser importance.

Vadania responded, “I'm not really looking for money, but it sounds like a good way to have some company without having an overwhelming number of people around. I'll join you in this."

"Excellent, we are in agreement!"
Rolan was about to get ready to head off, but then remembered both the food and his own hunger...
"Hmmm... perhaps we should finish our meal first..."

"Definitely!," agreed Vadania as she reached for another of those sweet pastries. She had wondered if civilization had anything to compensate for the bad smells, for these wonderful pastries she could put up with bad smells for a while...

Salyyn tries to control his hunger and he picks at his own meager meal. One day I will return and they will all regret my exile, I will prove to them that death isn't something to be feared, but rather studied! With a grimace at the thought he finished his meal with the others, ready to move on.

The party is in no hurry to leave the comfort of the inn as the rain outside hammers against the shuttered windows. Neither the guards nor mercenaries return and most of the inn's patrons seem content to wait out the storm, though from time to time a few brave souls venture out accompanied by a blast of cold air and spray that does little to disperse the thick tobacco clouds accumulating overhead.
Unaccustomed to the smoke Vadania soon becomes queasy and Rolan calls a maid over to settle the bill before the group departs. Salyyn takes what if left of the bread from the table - between that and the pie he'll not go hungry tomorrow.
(15 sp of food - arrange payment between yourselves, plus anything you care to throw to the bard. The new thread - Shadow in the night - is now open, but you can post anything your characters do before departing here)

For anyone else who missed it, there is a new thread here. The bookmark lets me catch new posts, but it doesn't work for new threads
