No matter how fast you travel, your reputation precedes you. By the time you reach Twin Forks, Lothar has fled the village, leaving his lackeys and a band of hired thugs in wait for you.
They offer little resistance to your combined might, and are quick to point you in their leader's direction. It turns out Lothar is more feared and better connected than past intelligence on him has suggested. He seems to have enjoyed a profitable, yet illicit life in the hamlets of the west beyond the gaze of Cambridge and its guilds.
Lothar has fled to Colvin, a fishing village south of here. It seems he wants to keep all he knows of Dragon Mountain to himself, perhaps he even intends to enter it himself when it appears. He must surely know where it is due to appear then, and knows he could not keep the knowledge to himself if you caught him and wished him to share it.
A bard in Twin Forks offers a second lead which almost complicates matters. Some time ago, while doing a little work for a hedge witch by the name of Gerdie who dwells a couple of days ride away in Whitehill, he was privy to a strange letter arriving, concerning Dragon Mountain and an amulet of some kind. The bard pressed the matter at the time, but dropped it when Gerdie became angry at his prying. The bard suggests if you visit Gerdie, you could learn more about the Mountain.
Lothar has the lead on you and knows you are coming, it's possible he means to head out to sea from Colvin, in which case, it may be a waste of time to chase him, or it could be exactly where you need to head to find the Mountain. As for the witch, one can only wonder at what she knows, but why would she share it with you?
What will you do?
