You collect anything of worth from the cave together and divide it among you for carrying, Crom shouldering a large part of the burden. Matrox's spell is confused by the multitude of adornments the party already carries, but once people retire to the stairwell out of his way, he is able to locate a fine Longsword emanating a strong magical aura, tucked away and half-buried in the beast's sleeping quarters. Its handle is wrapped in something like white leather, that glitters as it is turned in the low-light, as if infused with silver dust. The pommel is an oddly amateurish carving of a dragon's head, at odds with the rest of the weapon, and its gem-encrusted scabbard. Nobody is able to remove the sword from its scabbard, even Crom fails to budge the blade from its resting place.
If anybody counts the coins and jewelery, they will find there it to be worth around 500 platinum. Enough to rebuild the village twice over. It's nice to be doing good work again, but you can't help wonder how Gerdie will help you find Dragon Mountain as you haul the heavy loot back through the swamp. You are attacked once or twice by more Snakes before you get back to Gerdie's hut, each time, the fighters in the party dispatch them swiftly before any harm is done to anybody.
Linelle greets you all when you get back to Gerdie's. "Mother is sleeping at present," she says quietly, looking you all up and down in your blood and mulch spattered clothing. "Perhaps you'd all like to bathe in the pool before coming in for something to eat?" Still at odds with being treated like a precious gang of children you wander bemused to the back of the hut where you find a steaming pool of crystal clear water. The looks you throw one another are comic. All of you are sure the pool wasn't here last time you were at the hut, but then Matrox points out that the roof of the hut is entirely different, and that the front door was not on the same wall either. The hot waters of the pool rejuvenate you all, and cleanse you deeply with little effort. Even your clothes and armour come out cleaner than they have been in years. The pool is magical. Elthar, when you pull your tabbard from the waters, it has changed from a dull grey to a royal purple in colour, and now has the glaring insignia of a dragon's head upon it.(!) The cats roam around the pool watching you until you are done. When you next knock at the door, it is Gerdie who answers and beckons you in. (Everybody restore all lost hit points.)
"Well done," says Gerdie, letting herself down into a chair with two of her cats clinging to stay in her lap. "I knew you could do it!" She smiles and looks at each of you in turn. "The treasure will help these people rebuild their lives, and maybe there will be enough left to rebuild things once more when some other beast makes those ruins its home. Such is the way of things."
There is some silence then, as if she is waiting for you to speak.
