With the smell of sulphur in the air, the rats claw and bite at Matrox but fail to pierce his skin through the Stoneskin effects. Old Cud goes quite hysterical again, pointing at the Wizard and dancing from one foot to the other.
Matrox begins to prepare another spell. On seeing this, Old Cud's eyes grow wide and spittle begins to froth from his mouth. "Out I said! Out! get out! Leave me be, it's not yours, it's MINE!" he cries.
With a rapid gesture of his hands, Old Cud does his best to protect what is rightfully his. Monster Summon II. Three Osquips burst into the room in a puff of smoke just before Matrox vanishes into ethereal form. Finding no other targets, the dog-sized yellow ratlings beset Shay with vicious bites and claws..
"Leave! It's mine!" shouts Old Cud, "And take your devil friends with you!"
From outside, the scene continues to grow more comical with each faux pais.

Dalien watches the scene with growing annoyance. "Crom," he says, at length. "There any reason we need Old Cud alive?" The elf's hand twitches a little bit, tapping the edge of his bow impatiently. He has had just about enough of this.
"Cleric better fix this soon."

"There any reason we need Old Cud alive?" Crom shrugs "They seem to have the situation well in hand."He watches the ratlings and considers his past encounters with spellthrowers and their ilk. This man was not without power despite his madness. Crom shifts his attention from the village to the old man's actions, perhaps he would be needed after all. [if shay decides to run Crom will kick one of the Osquips as they scurry past. He won't engage Cud unless things get more serious][dice=20](hit AC -5 for around 16 damage, casually punt one of the yellow munchkins out of the village) [rand=3091349082530201052170831686158936849220770258567715952423984754738]

Matrox simply shakes his head and walks out "Shay, take care of this or i will burn this place down with or without the old coot inside"
He walks out side, shakes his head to the others and stands watching.

"Yeah, thanks a lot," Shay mutters sarcastically, clearly very annoyed by this point as Matrox finally decides to go away, leaving his big old mess behind him for Shay to try to fix.
"You burn this place down and we'll never see that mountain. You keep that in mind," Shay warns, knowing that the witch would most likely not take kindly to them harming this potential friend of hers. She wouldn't give them what they wanted, and they would have ended up killing some crazy guy for no real reason. Shay was smart enough to realize that, as it directly interfered with his ultimate goal.
Turning back to Old Cud, Shay attempts to regain the man's trust, but first he jumps onto a countertop, seeking out some sort of cover against the strange looking rat things.
"OK, ok, he's gone. Don't worry, I don't like him either but sometimes you've just gotta deal with people like that. It's just you and me now, so you can call off your monsters. I don't wanna fight. Hey, Ol' Cud, why don't you show me around your shop."
Shay is trying his best to calm this guy down again. They would likely get nowhere with Gerdie if she found out that they had to hurt the old fellow to get the shard they wanted. He is hoping that his allies will have no reason to want to attack this guy. And if he does manage to calm old Cud, hopefully his friends will learn from Matrox's past mistake and keep their big mouths shut while Shay was at work.
[whisper=spiral]Gonna try the ring thing again. If the charisma doesn't seem to be working, maybe try to charm him. It's risky I think, but there's going to be nothing gained if we have to kill this guy just to get a shard. the witch might be too pissed off at us.[/whisper]
(I don't really want to back off, but if things start to get really bad or we're getting nowhere, than we'll have to rethink this, but hopefully it won't come to that.)
