The innkeeper nods at Askr's explanation but does not walk away.
"Wasn't missing, I told him to take it and I ain't too proud of that. Guess these two have already managed to say enough about our plight though, so it might not matter now," The innkeeper frowns.
Jade steps away from Taylor at Ana's approach. She moves toward the innkeeper, her father.
Taylor does not go after the barmaid.
"I didn't mean to take it ma'am," Taylor says to Edrianna with a lowered head as Askr hands the ring back to her. "It's just that we didn't have nothing to give 'em 'till you all came in."
"Here, guess this is yours too," the stableboy hands the pouch and the remainder of the contents back to Garor. "I took it while you were sleeping under that tree."
Edrianna takes the ring with some hesitation. "If they truly need it. . . " she begins, unsure of what to do.
Ana attempts to get to the bottom of it all, trying to gain confirmation on the situation as she sees it.
Jade shakes her head and shouts.
"NO! they don't threaten destruction and pilaging, they promise death."
"It's true," Taylor confirms Jade's words. "Someone tried to say something to a group of travelers. They went in to fight the orcs. They all got killed, and so did the people that told."
Jade begins to cry once more, finding comfort this time in the arms of her father.
Jasper, the innkeeper speaks up
"You see, these orcs, they come to our villages and they give us two options, pay the price they demand or turn over some of our own to be sold into slavery. These are their terms, and from what I've heard from the guards and runners, they will be here at some point today to collect one or the other."
Jade's sobs increase in volume.
Taylor nods to confirm what his uncle has revealed and looks to Noic.
"But Uncle Jasper, I think we should stand up to those orcs this time for ourselves. He says that him and all these friends of his are good at killing lots of things, and I can fight now that they're here to help. There's one big one, he's called Onyx, but he ain't stupid either. He keeps lots of bodies nearby."
Jasper shakes his head and opens his mouth to speak, but Taylor interrupts, practically shouting in his uncle's face.
"No, you ain't gonna stop me and Noic from fighting them this time. Now I don't care if they take me away in chains like they did those boys in Pinston, 'cause I can fight for myself and I ain't scared, but ain't no orc ever gonna lay his hands on Jade or make her cry like that ever again. 'Cause no girl's tears supposed to run dry this early in life."
He looks to the group of students for support.
