You find yourselves crowded in a small corridor, it appears to be only a five feet wide and ten feet tall. Standing in front of these two doors, you wonder what could the Emperor want to ask of you. The two guards posted beside you seem almost as statues.
Suddenly a door opens and a gnome mage pops his head out waving to the guards to usher you in. Within a few seconds the guards have come alone and are now in the lead, following them you walk into a room, with a big round table. At the head of this table you see the Emperor sitting, with his personal advisor's beside him. Giving you time to sit down, he picks up a document and quietly mumbles a few words to his cleric beside him. The cleric conjures up some water and hands it to his Emperor.
Once you are all seated he stands up and addresses you: "I have gathered you all here today for a small quest. If you succeed at this quest, I shall give all of you a reward. This quest is only a small one, to prove your honesty to me, afterwards you will be sent out to some wars, and harder quests, which I shall reward you as I see fit. Is there any opposition to this request of mine? My cleric has also casted a zone of truth, in which you can try to resist if you want, but I would rather you not tell me if you do succeed as I will see fit of escorting you out."

I assume we all see eachother out in the hallway? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will save? [dice=20] Seeing the gathered folk Greg thinks to himself, Another Catfolk, a Human scout... human but his knowledge should still come in handy, and a couple of druids...
Once ushered to the Emperor Gregory nods his head toward the table. He listens carefully, but doesn't say anything.[rand=125942656371831556495336997487768299815247907092317473266144563787]

(OOC) Small question - should this be running here, alongside Secrets? I'd think the two should be in separate boards. Can KMan/Japic possibly arrange this?

"I am not so much opposed as confused, sir. Why not simply have the army deal with such things? Why pull together such a disparate group to undertake missions for you- under your direct command? In short: Why us?"

"I have selected you because if I would rather send my army, it would be the perfect time to attack our kingdom. If I send all of you adventurers, my army can deal with the attacks being made against this city. In short, I have no one in my army to spare, and I would think you would be looking for employment options, as well as fortune."

"So what is the quest?" asks the straggly looking man in hide armor.

"Your first quest is simple enough, yet it will prove to me you have what it takes and that you are honest people. A few weeks ago a thief broke into the castle and stole a few items of value, your task shall be to retrieve these items. There was a sword with rubies along its dull edge, a crown with emeralds and a pair of leather boots with silk sown to it. Luckily the thief still has these items and is hidden in the town, my advisor's have received information that he is in the southern parts. Return when you have these items and I shall reward you. If you need more information, ask the cleric. Now I must attend personal matters. Farewell and good luck to you all."
With this the Emperor simply turns around and in haste leaves the room. From the other side of the wall you hear a small explosion and some citizens scream. The cleric is left there to answer any questions you might have. As he is the one which has had information reported to him. Feel free to ask anything that has to do with your quest.

"What the devil was that?" Elias rushes to the door to find out what the explosion and the screaming is about.

The guards stand in Ellias way and simply reply: "We are being attacked once again, please sit down again. The cleric will tell us when to let you go, you wont pass before that."

(OOC) The Roman Empire is currently under attack by the previous holders of the lands (Some Dwarves and some Elves). They choose to attack the city as they think it will bring it back to them.

"Tracking down a thief seems simple enough, but i still say some guardsmen could do it just as well."

The cleric conjures up some water and hands it to his Emperor. Who needs a whetstone when you have your own cleric water cooler? Krystal falls down ''Where the hell am I?'' She looks around, noticing the elegant silverware and fine art... ''Must be some senile king's castle... If I ever get my hands on that gnomish mage...''

(OOC) The campaign will come to a stop for several days, possibly a few weeks, my computer's power supply just fried out last night around 1 am while I was trying to post. I regret this very much but it wasn't my fault and I excuse myself for any inconvinience this may cause to any of you.
Edit: I've got a place to post, campaign's up again.

Now, if there are no objection I will send for your pathfinder, he will be in constant contact with me."

Elias throws up his hands and slumps into a nearby chair. "We have a pathfinder, now? When did that happen? Very well, go to fetch him." I've seen grade schools that were better-run than this Empire! I suppose I'll just go with the flow until things start making sense...

The cleric sighs deeply while turning his heels and mumbles: "What does the Emperor see in them..." After a few minutes the cleric returns with what seems like an old man. "This is your pathfinder, do not under estimate him.", and simply leaves the men alone with their new path finder.
The old man speaks in a light, almost ear screeching voice: "Now, we have a party of 4, from what I can see. Very good, the lord as done as he spoke. I am glad he keeps his word. Now, your task will be easy if all goes according to plan, I will lead you to the area where the thief was last seen."
