SEA GREEN
Proceeding cautiously, Natsumi calls out to whoever might be listening, and the others lower their weapons to indicate non-aggression, while remaining ready to act should the need arise. For a long while, there is no response, and the jungle suspiciously silent.
Just when it begins to seem that the notion was all imagination, a voice whispers through the air, raspy and quiet, as if someone were whispering directly into the ears of the group. “These five look different. These five do not speak with death?”
Another voice chimes in, just as quiet, but softer and less harsh. “These ones come by giant bird, not by boats.”
And another, deeper. “These ones kill the wild thralls.”
There is a pause, and all the voices speak as one, a noise that is not quite harmonious, but eerily well coordinated. “These five are different?”

Lenny-
Hallen considers Lenny’s words, shaking his head in amazement. He can only laugh at the question. “If my hometown were dependent on me… I think I would question the sanity of my superiors!”
The humor is short-lived, though, and Hallen sighs heavily, his hands outstretched helplessly. “I cannot say what is right to do. This is too big for me to wrap my head around. But I will say this—you are new to this city, and so it seems strange and bewildering a corrupt, and so I thought when I first came here. I assure you, it isn’t. New Ravenshead is…” He waves a hand, trying to find the proper word. “Everything. It is good and bad, righteous and corrupt, magic and might, politics and simpletons. Everything is here, and in such great quantity that it can be easy to see all bad and no good. But there is as much goodness in these people as there is evil, if only you have the eyes to see it.”
“The curator… is not all bad. Easy to anger, certainly, and known for brash decisions, but mostly he is just thinking on a different level. So it will be with everyone here, all of them from different backgrounds. Perhaps the Dean will be better for discussion. He is more open-minded and patient, though less knowledgeable about the university. If you want to find him, I can show you where his offices, but I don’t have nearly the influence to immediately get a meeting with him. I’m a student, not anybody of importance.”
He takes a deep breath. “But as I said, you have whatever help I can offer. You are small in stature, but your eyes are big and see the picture better than I can. What would you have us do? How do you think I can help?”
[In short, the NPC will help, but not choose a course of action. Let me know what you want to do. Hallen can take Lenny to the administrative building if desired, where he’d be facing the Terrible Clerks that gave Gildas so much trouble. ]
Gildas-
Fairchild is inviting and polite when he gets to his office, offering all three men a seat in his spacious office, seating himself in a comfortable, well-used leather seat behind a messy desk covered with papers. There are a lot of different items, and Fairchild takes a brief moment to glance over several stacks, sighs heavily, and then whispers an indecipherable command word while touching a little paperweight on his desk. Immediately the papers begin to move and neatly organize themselves on his desk, filing themselves laterally in a set of paper holders. Convenient.
Fairchild just shakes his head tiredly. “There’s always something, isn’t there?” He smiles wanly, then settles down to listen to what Gildas has to say. “Please, I’ve made you wait long enough. Your business with me?”
Gildas launches into it, his eloquence impressing even his fellows. Wanderer raises his eyebrows and says nothing that could potentially screw up the presentation, and Lockheart merely nods in parts to affirm what Arowan says. As he gets deeper into the matter, the Dean’s forehead creases in thought and perhaps worry, mouth drawn in a tight, pensive line. At the very least, it is certain that he takes the matter seriously.
When Gildas is done, he takes his time thinking about what he is about to say, apparently choosing his words carefully. “What you say about Aurost,” he begins soberly. “It is a serious charge, you realize. Serious, and yet… not inaccurate. The man has been in the city for some time, a month at least, and he has indeed consulted me about seeking an ancient artifact on the University grounds, though he claimed his religion prevented him from precisely describing it to an outsider.” He hmphs. “A bone. Interesting.”
“I would not call him an ally. Like yourselves, he claims to be a foreign dignitary, acting on behalf of Yexuhl. I have heard the term ‘Deathspeaker’ as well, I believe, and though the associations with necromancy have made me wary… you must understand, gentlemen. The university teaches necromancy, alongside all other magic. New Ravenshead itself stays carefully neutral, and there are many characters in our walls that are given amnesty where they would elsewhere be condemned. So long as laws are obeyed, it is the Council’s edict that all are to be treated equally.” He shrugs helplessly. “It is strange to outsiders, and there are many uncomfortable with it, but that is the way of things here.”
“But that does not mean I am unsympathetic to your cause.” He taps his chin, thinking again. “To be honest, I don’t much fancy the idea of anybody roaming my university and hunting for some lost treasure, but it is beginning to seem like an unavoidable eventuality. Aurost has made some friends on the Council, and they are putting pressure on me, viewing this as a small matter. I cannot outright bar them from the grounds, not without cause, but I could probably delay this matter indefinitely… and give what assistance I can to you and yours in trying to find the object.”
He shakes his head. “Maybe it is wrong of me, to see you as the one in the right so quickly, but Aurost… does not sit well with me, and you seem earnest.” He smiles. “Your friend of St. Cuthbert does no harm to your image. But even if I do these things, and Aurost is as dangerous as you say he is, would it not then be very risky to simply break off all contact with him? He will immediately suspect something, and if his kind are behind that trouble I heard of in the Dwarven Kingdom… well, I am not a skilled warrior or a master of the arcane.”
“That is all I can think to do, Gildas of Tertia. I don’t know where this bone-like object is any more than you do, but I can give you the opportunity to search for it and the cooperation of my staff.”
[Good speech. ]
Tyrano, Norven-
[Though I don’t want to, I’m pausing on this combat for a couple of reasons. I don’t want to proceed and screw you guys out of opportunities, so here are my questions:
1. As I said in the last thread, I screwed up Tyrano’s DR, and so he actually only took 20 as opposed to 35 damage. Do you still want to run for it?
2. If he’s still running for it, Tork, would you like to change Norven’s action? You guys act on the same initiative, so it’s doable.
3. If not running for it, I’m inclined to point out that the Deathspeaker is too far from Norven for a flurry. Redirect flurry onto the zombie, or tumble-move after him and attack only once?]
Initiative- Tyrano & Norven (6), Scholars/Undead (5).
