Amalric, Jakob, Rupert-
Deciding that it’s time to go, Amalric orders the guards and Jakob to get the wagon packed up with what goods are left, while sending Rupert off to inform Joseph, Tawno, and Thomas. Apple still unfinished, Rupert goes to do as told—perhaps reluctantly—while the others go about their business. Still, he knows it is a bad idea to anger a magus, and Amalric has ever been tolerant of his behavior.
After Rupert has left and the group continues to pack, Jakob and Amalric take note of a man on horseback entering the market square, surrounded by a small contingent of guards—by their livery, these are actual men-at-arms, not merely guardsmen. The man on horseback, by his dress, must surely be nobility of some kind—a knight, perhaps, or some other lord. He calls over one of the guardsmen and speaks with him curtly.
The guardsman nods, speaking back, and makes a gesture in the direction of the Covenant’s contingent.
Joseph, Tawno-
Despite Joseph’s urgency, the old man does not seem to relish being put-off. He steps in Joseph’s path as he moves to leave. “Come now, young man, come now. Why the rush? It’s a fine day in the market, a fine day indeed—and an even finer day in the forests, I should say. Wouldn’t you agree? Now would be a fine time for a stroll in the woods, indeed.” He flashes a smile and cackles, but seems utterly determined to strike up some odd sort of conversation with the young magus.
Meanwhile, Tawno continues to grow uncomfortable with the old man’s presence. There’s just something about him that makes her uncomfortable and suspicious of his motives. Surely he’s up to something.
Thomas seems to feel likewise. “Just speak the words, Joseph, and I’ll toss this beggar from our path.”
Arnaud-
Finished with his business in searching for Grigori, Arnaud deems it time to head back to the wagon—surely business is done for today. But as he winds his way back, he spots Joseph, Tawno and Thomas, seemingly accosted by some old man in shabby traveling clothes. Certainly no merchant or man of high station.
Thomas seems to be having stern words with the old man, and is looking to Joseph for instruction.

Rupert-
With a day of enjoying the market behind him and some pleasant conversation from the woodsman, Rupert goes about his chore expediently, moving easily through the market as he seeks out Joseph. But before he can quite find the young magus, a voice from nearby calls out. “There! That’s the thief!”
Rupert turns more out of curiosity than fear, but soon comes face-to-face with the apple merchant he slyly took a couple of apples from. Or perhaps not-so-slyly. Rupert himself is caught in mid-bite, the spare remains of the apple in one hand. The merchant’s hand is pointing straight at him, and the overweight vendor is flanked by two guardsmen.
They give Rupert disparaging looks and advance. “Come now, boy, we need to have some words with you.”
Elric-
[Repost]
Deciding to ward off his boredom by giving into the serving girl and striking up conversation, Elric invites her to sit for a spell, with a drink in hand. She complies with a brilliant smile—though she attempts to conceal it behind a certain air of professionalism, giving a little curtsy and hurrying off to fetch the desired drink.
Soon enough she returns, sliding into a seat across from him. In her brief disappearance, it appears she’s tried to straight her slightly-mussed hair and straighten her clothes a bit, without a great deal of success. There’s only so much one can do. Asked her name, she responds, “Lisbet, m’lord. And… what do I want to do with my life?” she repeats his question curiously. Glancing to either side briefly, she leans forward to speak in confidence. “My folks say I should hope for a good, hard-working husband and healthy children, but to be honest, sir, the thought interests me not at all! I think, more than anything, I’d like to see the world. I hear so many travelers talk of it, and it sounds so exciting and interesting—much better than the life of a serving girl, no doubt.” She frowns prettily. “But I’m afraid that’s likely a silly dream, or so say the other girls.”
“What about you, sir? Are you doing what you dream of? I have to wonder at what has a young man sitting alone with nothing to do on such a day. Most would call you a layabout, but you don’t have the look of one.”
