Elric-
Faced with a sudden decision, Elric urges Lisbet to go off on her own, circle the block, and open the door. The woman gives him a hesitant look—one that turns to confusion with the words he chooses to taunt the guards—but trusts him enough to run off as directed, though it will surely take her some time to follow through.
Then Elric takes off, of a mind to get the guards to follow him. They are only too eager to pursue, inflamed further by his taunts, and give no mind to Lisbet as they home in on the captain. Perhaps they assume she is easily caught once he falls, or else pay her no mind.
The chase goes well at first. Elric is fit and up for the run, though the guards keep steady pace behind him. He doesn’t seem to make any particular gains, but he doesn’t think he needs to—until, as he leads them away, two more guards appear before him.
Four guardsmen. One alley. Trapped, Elric is immediately beset upon by the new arrivals. First guard takes a wild sing that he easily manages to duck, even without his sword in hand to parry it, but the second guardsman swipes low, catching Elric across one leg. Luckily, his armor prevents the injury from being anything more than a flesh wound.
But with the other two behind him, he may not be so lucky in the next few seconds…

Jakob-
Unsure how to react to the situation without more information, Jakob chooses a little caution and listens in on those nearby. [Notice check @ +6] With his keen senses, Jakob is able to pick up on the conversation several yards away, despite the murmurings of the nearby crowd.
What he manages to discern from the guards’ speech is that the guards received a tip that Elric was in the tavern—someone eager for the reward, no doubt—and that the guards then moved to apprehend him just recently. But he fled, apparently, and they have been unable to track him down. [Unless he does really, really badly in the above combat…] The inn has been watched since then, though they don’t expect him to return—though they have been instructed to keep a lookout for Elric’s traveling companions.
No doubt it is a good thing the woodsman decided not to stroll inside, though certainly he isn’t the most distinctive member of the Covenant.
Due to the peculiar spell pressed on him by Amalric, Jakob knows that merely turning his thoughts to the magus can enable him to communicate mentally with him, across any distance. He has no idea how or why this functions, but the magi are capable of many strange things. He also knows that the magus can choose to speak mentally to him if he chooses, though no matter how much it happens, it is always strange and rather unnerving, to say the least.
Amalric-
Still occupied with the noble, Amalric can only keep distant tabs on Jakob and Isabeau. The latter sends him images, but has been unable to keep track of Elric while simultaneously remaining discreet in the eyes of the law. Last Isabeau saw, the captain disappeared into twisting alleys and sidestreets, led by the young tavern wench. From Jakob, Amalric only receives what he requests or is told. [It’s up to Japic.]
However, the matter with the noble is a bit more to his immediate concern. Amalric feels comfortable with his assessment of the nobility’s stance on the Covenant—some nobles are glad to acknowledge the Covenant as an entity unto itself, but not all are so generous (or prudent). Many nobles spurn them, as does the church, typically, though they tend not to rise up and try to crush them. The magi are far too frightening a force for that.
Indeed, those in the service of the Covenant tend to be seen as mere mercenaries, or worse.
Amalric informs the noble that this Thomas is not in attendance, but has been sent for. The noble grumbles under his breath but nods, looking in the general direction of the rest of the market. At the mention of the church, his gaze snaps back. “The church?” he asks loudly, speculatively. “I know nothing of dealings with the church. Though if you have indeed made donations, I am sure the bishop will appreciate it.” By his tone, he seems to regard the claim with some suspicion. Wizardry is not often looked upon kindly by the church.
The noble continues. “No, this matter is about another bandit he reported to us. I wanted to speak to him on the subject.” He frowns thoughtfully, face wrinkling up in disgust. “We will wait for your boy to return with them.”
But no amount of waiting seems to bring Joseph, Thomas, Tawno, or Rupert back, as Amalric will no doubt discover, the noble getting more restless and annoyed with each passing moment. Perhaps another mental connection…
Rupert-
As Rupert goes to walk away, the man speaks up. “No, please, don’t go! We’ve got some important things to discuss, you and I. You’re in a heap of trouble, I know that very plainly, and as it so happens, I’m in trouble, too! But, you see, I can help you with your little problem if you can help me with mine.” He smiles hopefully. “I can even reward you, if you like! Anything you want.”
Should Rupert continue on his ways, it will occur to him that the alley is rather safe, and venturing out could provoke another sighting by the guards. He could probably escape, sure, but is it worth the risk?
Arnaud, Tawno, Joseph-
The tree-face looks scornfully at Arnaud, apology and all. “Mmhmm! not your intent, you say, how quaint. Why, if we all catered to intents, we’d be knee-deep in kelp, for sure!”
Nobody is quite sure how kelp should have anything to do with intents, but it doesn’t seem sensible to point this out just now.
Tawno looks to take control of the conversation. The tree-face seems to regard her with a bit more friendliness. Or at least tolerance. “Expecting? I should think not. Are you looking for someone? Is there someone that ought to be expecting you? I bet it’s that silly wizard. He’s always expecting something, it seems. Did he send you? I hear he does a fair amount of that, too.”
Finally, it appears the conversation might be going somewhere.
