Deciding that the orcs must be immediately dispatched, the group of four rush forth with weapons drawn: although the orcs put up a decent resistance, they are clearly outnumbered and outclassed. It does not take long to lay waste to the guards.
Both lie dead and all is quiet once more.
There is not much of interest in this cavern/guard post.
The band of adventurers may move on, some keeping in mind that the orcs may very well have sent someone to alert any others who might dwell here.
Up ahead all is silent and dark. The group eventually comes to a cavern of interest. Here they find chains, rusty manacles, moldy blankets, dirty and chipped cookware, all in piles throughout the deep and wide space.
No one is hear, though the scurrying of rodents and other cavelife can be heard in the silence.
Once any business is resolved here, the group may press on once more, eventually coming to a cavern with a makeshift door of nothing more than a thick piece of wood propped up against the stone wall.
If Garor is to look inside utilizing his dark vision, he sees into the large room. About ten or so orcs can be seen within.
These orcs appear to be at rest, sleeping in various sections of the room.
Besides this chamber, there is also a hall which will take the group further along into the tunnels.

Garor signals to the others for silence, indicating the presence of orcs.
It all seemed too easy. Garor peered around, surely it was all too easy.

Ana moves along quietly, lowering the lantern's glare when it becomes clear that a horde of orcs is not immediately heading their way. She moves along behind the dwarves, knowing her vision is far inferior, and tries to keep her ears alert for sounds of trouble.
When they come to the room that looks precisely like she'd imagine a slave cell looking, she takes a moment to sift around in the debris for a real sign that humans have been kept here. She guesses at the number of people that could be crammed in here for a long journey through the tunnels.
And then comes the room with apparently sleeping orcs. It would seem they have the drop of them. Witnessing Garor with some well-timed caution, she remains standing by, wondering idly if she could bring herself to slaughtering a bunch of orcs in their sleep. Though they probably wouldn't all sleep. She doesn't have the skill or technique to keep even on kill perfectly silent, she guesses.
Ana keeps a hand in Shadow's fur, patting his neck to encourage patience, both for herself and the dog.

Finnius keeps quiet and waits for the signal. Though the thought of killing a sleeping enemy was quiet alien and indecent, they were orcs and therefore low born scum. The lowest born at that. Still, if it meant an easy way into the base of operations one could surely argue that honour was between gentlemen and not the reserve of vile orcs?

Ana takes some brief moments to examine the chamber which appears to be where the orcs might keep their captives for brief periods in time as they move through the tunnels. She searches for signs which could confirm this. She does find a broken button which might have fallen from a garment, a few odds and ends here and there, building up the evidence that the area's childeren were kept here. Shadow also pokes about, sniffing at the dirty blankets and canvas. The dog's snooping results in the uncovering of a worn out leather shoe.
At the room containing the sleeping orcs, some find themselves at battle with their morality, though Garor, sensing that this whole thing reeks of something suspicious, steps far enough away where his casting might not be overheard and then returns with what he hopes will prove to be a whole new outlook on the situation.
As the dwarf pokes his head through the door once more, he does notice a faint aura of magic emanating from a point in the room. The dwarf can surmise that it is either a trap or a ward, both would make sense. But it certainly doesn't change the fact that the room is clearly a resting place for these orcs as Garor can detect no further magic effecting this room.
The newfound information regarding the room may definitely be of some use in determining the next course of action. And there is still the hallway leading away from the sleeping chamber and further into the unknown.

Ana tries to draw the others far enough from the door for a whispered conversation, though keeping the door in their sights. Hopefully this is where Garor will reveal his information. "It seems a bad idea to leave them at our back," she says. "And if there is a trap or alarm, entering will bring them on us. Should we prepare to make a stand at the door, cut them as they depart? Rush in quickly and fight with all haste? Or is there something around here we can use to jam the door and lock them inside, so we can securely explore the rest of what is here?" She looks around, trying to answer some of her own questions, though of course the dwarves have much better vision down here.

Or is there something around here we can use to jam the door and lock them inside "The chains and manacles perhaps", nodding back towards cavern. "Would not hold them long, but a rag under the door and a good fire within would make short work of them if such is your desire, though there would be no chance to press one for information"Garor returns his gaze to the room, not wanting to spend overlong in conversation until he'd had the chance to properly study the magic within. "Messy...but effective i suppose. Burn them out like rats? Lets just be quick shall we?" Finnius tters this with a whisper. He didnt like the idea of this skulking and killing. It was not fit for a gentleman. However he had heard from adventurers that it was often the way less you be slain yourself.

"You are going to have to secure that door pretty well if you want it to hold ten orcs in there long enough for them to burn." Avaros notes. "It'll make it pretty smoky down here too" he points out. Then thinks "Mind you if the corridors are full of smoke it might not be a bad thing. It will make it as hard for them to see down here as it is for me. We can perhaps sneak by while any further along here panic."

You are going to have to secure that door pretty well if you want it to hold ten orcs in there long enough for them to burn. Garor snorts, "I said a fire, not an inferno. It'll suck the air out of the room, if we don't wake them they'll never wake again"Turning back to the room "May not be an option if that magical alarm of theirs reaches the doorway." If it was an alarm thought Garor. "But we can't just leave them here, when they rise they'll likely be seeking new additions to their collection", motioning back towards the chains.

"No, we can't leave them," Ana agrees. "I wish I'd thought to pin down one of the earlier orcs and question him." She was amazed they weren't overrun with them already, actually. Evidently they didn't expect them to overcome the illusory wall. "Let's jam the door and investigate a little further. If everything else is clear, we come back and take care of them. If they try to get out, we'll hear them."
She looks at the others to see what they think of the plan.

Keep in mind the description of the door
(for a second I thought I wrote a "thick piece of cardboard")
In Garor's expert analysis it's an Alarm spell and it will likely alert them the moment someone crosses the threshold into the cavern. Garor is uncertain if it is one of the noisy alarms or the ones which are silent and only alert one or a select few.
(Wanna move on or wanna fight? I think there is a tie in votes right now.)

Now that he knew the nature of the magic Garor turned his eyes to studying the door itself. "I am not confident that this will halt either the flow of smoke or the orcs themselves should we seek to bar it."
Looking back "If we were to hide signs of our presence, and the fate of the guards, we might go on unchallenged. If not we should fall on them now lest they fall upon our flank as we continue."
"But understand that there are no prisoners here, the orcs next concerns may well be the gathering of more." He shrugs, "if it concerns you to fight them asleep then wake them, their magic may well do in any event and perhaps others..."
Not guile in keeping for these orcs, but such a spell could well inform others of their actions here should they enter the room.
(OOC: Garor's a little paranoid it seems, but then he does blame metal for the woes of his people)

Anaqualia frowns thoughtfully, looking around at her comrades. Garor is a tough customer in a fight, but she isn't so sure about Aravos or Finnius. Could the four of them take down ten orcs with relatively little trouble? They wouldn't be able to get the drop on them. But then again, if they leave them, Garor's right, they probably will be hunting down more slaves.
But there's still a whole complex to explore that could give them more clues. There's also the obvious question--who put up the alarm spell? "Let's avoid them for now and keep looking around. I can have Shadow watch the door for activity if we're worried about them sneaking up on us."
