The shock and yells from the court reached a fever pitch as the constable brought down his gavel thunderously. The court settled to hushed whispers and all eyes were rest on Thomas addressed by Preacher Corrigan - the man who become the Voice of the Almighty in Salem as he fancied himself. The man whose word alone could end lives and send them to and eternal damnation as he would have us believe... but Thomas no longer believed that. To Thomas, the Preacher was just another man, or something lower; worse.
"Tell Thomas... are they still hazel?" words spoken with spite.
Thomas held his voice tight until the constable addressed him, "Is this true Mr. Hoban? Was this," he pushes the silk bag with the finger away from himself with the gavel distastefully, "child, a sinful product of yours and Miss Sykes' lust?"
Thomas steeled his resolve and answered, "Sir, the child was mine, but the sins of the parents extend only to children until baptism, during which they are washed in the eyes of the lord. Please, allow me to tell you what happened. Why this...thing" he points at the Preacher in disgust "is no man of God, but rather The Deceiver himself, or at the very least and agent of him."
Thomas looks at Preacher Corrigan with anger and sadness in his eyes, "You've taken what was precious to me, shall we tell these good people how? Let us tell them the story of Abraham and Isaac from right here in Salem, not one week ago."
~~~~~~~Flashback Start~~~~~~~
"Bring the child." A simple message from Preacher Corrigan. "This is how I will cleanse our souls, this will save all three of us" thought Thomas.
Thomas convinced Taciturn to let him have their son for the night, "A boy needs his father" Thomas said. The rain rhythmically struck the ground and roofs of houses as he carried brought the child to the church's barn. It was used primarily to store extra feed for the animals and as a shelter during particularly bad storms. Tonight's storm didn't qualify as bad though.
Thomas approached the barn, a small light poured through the cracks in the door. He pushed them open and dead ahead stood the preacher behind a four foot long pine table. A lantern on the table provided a small amount of light for the barn, next to it the heavy black book of the scripture that the Preacher used during Sunday worship. In his hands was a long knife. "I brought the child, Father."
[Alright. Thomas' scene is going to be the flashback - the dice will be deciding the outcome of that. Characters can react in the courtroom to the story being told so you aren't left out. Kman if you react in both the courtroom and continue in the flashback please separate the two like I did. If you aren't familiar with the short bible story of Abraham and his son Isaac, please look it up and I think you will see where I am going with this.
Hope I did a good job setting this up.]
