[Sorry everyone, when I was here full time I did a new post for each segment. Just helped me stay organized especially when campaigns ran for years. I can't imagine sorting through a thread for a years worth of posts. I'll try to remember to post a "New Post" Thread everytime there is one. If that works, we'll go with that.]
[Everyone to the tower then.]
Regrouping at the strange tower in the center of the ruins, you confirm what your companions have already discovered. The slice that tore through this man - and his blade - did originate from the door. In addition, there is no sign of mechanical trap or a trigger for such a trap...indeed, whatever did this was organic in nature - a claw or similar.
The thought gives you a shuddering pause. What could have done this?
Those brave enough to advance floors find the second floor is similar to the first. Sundered crates of goods, destroyed and rotting furniture, torn tapestries....signs of a fire are rampant here too. The fire seems centrally located to the room, originating and emanating from that point. The center of the floor is most scorched, the walls and outer rim barely covered in a charcoal colored dust. Whatever was here has long been destroyed or taken from here...thankfully, you discover no more bodies on this floor.
Most interestingly though, is a set of double iron doors set into the far wall from the staircase up. They are not scorched, nor do they show signs of forced entry...They look as though they must have the day the came off the forge.
They are currently closed.
