[Is everyone ok with posting in this format? It's what I'm used to and frankly, helps me stay organized. Rounds are divided, conversations are broken up...to me it makes sense. But if no one likes this format, I can adjust. Let me know if you get the chance.]
[@ harknail - The stairs do not continue, but you know the tower goes up - perhaps the stairs up are concealed behind these doors?]
Keeping your eye on the first level, you examine the second floor of this mysterious tower a bit closer.
First is the strange set of doors. They are clearly iron yet devoid of any scorch marks from the blaze that consumed this room. In addition, they are as shiny and new as the day they were forged...something is keeping these doors in pristine condition...or someone. They are devoid of any markings. If you had to guess at their origin, it would be Dwarven. They are also devoid of handles or signs of locks....and, [DM Rolls] upon very close inspection, there are no traps. There is a simple octagonal depression in each door near where the handle would be.
Second is the signs of the blaze. At the point of origination, there is nothing save for deep rivers of charcoal and ash. It emanates in a burst from the center of the room and reaches nearly the edges of the room - where even there it left signs of intense heat. That which was damaged by the blaze was damaged completely, utterly destroyed beyond repair.
[Thorin & Bishop Perception Rolls] Thorin nrenV8Lgp_1-20 Bishop p_1-20
Thorin notices a small object buried in the mound of ash directly in the center...about 3 inches in length. It's hard to tell what it is through all the ash.
Thorin Arcana Check p_1-20
It is difficult to tell what caused the blast...but it is not a spell. You can tell that.
[@ Everyone - By all means, feel free to roll your own dice if you feel it appropriate for the situation. Never hurts to roll a little extra.] 1-201-201-20

OOC: No objections to the format, but since I use email to know when something has been posted, the new post message has been helping me not miss new turns. So thanks Thorin concludes, "Work this fine must be dwarven." With a mystic word and a gesture, Thorin floats the object out of the ash and over to him. Thorin might look like a solder (actually reserve militia), but there was more to him than that.

"Oh ho! From armor comes arcanery! Wondrous things do not usually come in metal packages!" Wit bows his head. "And well met, good mage."

"I do dabble a bit in the arcane," admitted Thorin to the teifing bard. "But I still feel more comfortable with dwarven steel between me and what's trying to kill me." He thumps his breastplate in emphases.

"Y'know, I heard a tale once of an enchanted castle that would burn down every morning," says Terric. "It would fill with smoke and flames, but the castle itself was immune to the fire, see, so it could keep on going. So you're a weary traveler, and you see this abandoned castle, perfect for shelter, aye? You go inside to rest for the night, but you notice there are scorch marks on the walls, and no animals have nested there, not even spiders. By the time you get suspicious, it's too late--if you try to walk through the exit, the enchantment turns you around, so you can't leave. All you can do is wait out the night...and when sunrise comes, you start to feel warm..."
He leans nonchalantly against the wall. "O'course that's prolly just another of ol' Bos'n Garth's tall tales, but who knows? I've heard stranger."

Thorin comments, "I don't think this is the source of that story. There was fire in the center, but things at the edges aren't burnt at all, just smoked."

Bishop speculates, "perhaps the doors were open when the blast occurred"

[No need for a full blown new post since the item may or may not determine your next actions.]
Thorin uses arcane magic to pull the item from the neat pile of ash in the center of the burnt room. It is a length of metal no longer than a finger, sharply cut from the same steel as the odd doors nearby. The side are smooth and angular, the piece is octagonal when viewed from the ends...other than that, it bears no other markings or patterns. A simple piece of strange steel.

Thorin looks at the piece of metal in his hand, and at the octagonal depression in the doors and says, "I think I might have found the key."
He continues, "Just in case Bishop is right, I suggest that everyone move the the edge of the room before I try this to open the doors."
Thorin waits for everyone to either move to the edge of the room or to object to his plan. Once everyone is in place and if no one objects, Thorin will move beside one of the doors, and then again use magic to move the supposed key into the octagonal depression in that door.

Bishop uses the stairwell and his shield for cover, hoping that the fire was not someone's attempt to destroy the key lest anyone open the door. But they were not in these lands to shy from danger.

Wit discreetly stands behind Bishop. Can't be too careful.

"Worth a shot," says Terric. He's already by the other wall, but he stands a little straighter in anticipation. "Go for it."

" Also no offence to any of you but i may be the only one here that might be ok from the blast, not going to lie its going to hurt. But if you dont mind maybe i should stand in front of our group at the stairs to absorb the worst of it."
If no objects he stands in frount of the group and has them behind him on the stairs. He too has his sheild out.
Ok bro on three open it...
