High Priestess Alawyn Tezrix sat upright in her chair, eyes closed, smooth face unmoving. For the thousandth time she went over the plan, from beginning to its recently concluded end. It had all had to be perfect---and it had been.
First: Send explorers and scouts the world over to observe, track, and follow dragons. Find mature adults. Follow them for centuries---until they are ready for young. Follow them, and thus find the ancestral hatching grounds. All this for every variety of dragon, colored or metallic
Second: With great caution, send the Court's greatest mages to inscribe teleportation circles near the eyries.
Third: In one, bold, stroke, send the Starfey armies from circle to circle, slaying any live dragons they found and taking the eggs. All in one day, scattered across the world, before the dragons could even get word to one another.
And the prize: Four hundred dragon eggs. Research, mounts, warriors...the uses would be endless. And they could breed them in captivity...this would be the crowning event of not just her reign, but of the Starfey Empire.
Still she sat, eyes closed and face still, but now with a hint of a smile to her lips.
And under the earth, a Council was called to screeching order.
