Krysta, Sehanine, Girud, Balin, Galdren and Romar - You each work out your day, digging as slowly as you can and convincing the still-living around you to do the same. It is hard to maintain even a minimal pace as the hunger and lack of sleep begin to take their tolls on your body. {Romar Excluded of course.} You begin to shake, wishing for the day to pass so that you can stop the work and potentially give your body a chance to rest and shake the effects of fatigue.
{CON Checks to avoid Fatigued condition DC 15: (Remember, you're all at 1HP and have had no rest, food or water.)
Krysta - Nat. 20!!
Sehanine - 4, Fatigued
Girud - 15
Balin - 19
Galdren - 19
Sehanine - You're fatigued. From the SRD;
}
Finally, you hear the words you've been waiting to hear so long. The orcs at your entrances call for you to return to your cells and delight in pushing you along like torn, shattered husks of your former self...which you practically are.
You are lead past the open areas that, on your way in, were full of the wretched creatures, but are now devoid of them. Perhaps some reinforcements sent to take the keep. Perhaps simply somewhere else in the complex. You are lead past the doors housing your items and back into your pens. Judging by your guesses of starting work at first light, you can assume that night has just fallen.
You see Yuri, still in his cell but his clothes soaked in sweat and his body shaking as though afflicted with a terrible disease. The young woman in his cell desperately tries to wipe the sweat from his head with a wet cloth and smile sympathetically as you pass by.
You are placed back into the same cells you were when this horrible ordeal started and the four guards sit in their alcove nearby playing a game beyond your understanding involving bones and pieces of glass.
Mordrock seems enthused at your return, nearly knocking himself out on the bars of his cell as he tries to reach through them to touch you as you re-enter.
"Mordrock happy you live!"
"Here, take some water and some bread!"
Mordrock, although excited speaks low enough to not be heard as he hands the grimy food and foul-smelling water through the bars to each of you. The water comes in a wooden cup and appears to have a small amount of mold on it. None the less, the pathetic goblin smiles at each of you.
"Tonight we leave yes? I free you and you take me with you?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yuri - Your head swims with images of crimson and your ears pound repeatedly like drums that seem to near and wash away like a tide. You manage to crack your eyes open slightly and take notice of your surroundings.
You still lie on your ground and you vaguely see the image of someone leaning over you, dabbing your head with a cloth. You're unsure of the figure as it seems like little more than a webbing of veins and arteries that pulse and glimmer.
You hear a voice, a woman's, the figure must be speaking to you.
"Oh, you're awake...I was worried...well, still am, about you. You've been sweating all day and it seems like your body is withering..."
Indeed.
It feels as though your body is emptying all its contents most painfully. However, above the voice of the figure next you, you hear a second voice, more prominent and much more haunting.
"Drink and the pain will subside...with the loss of your own life, gain the powers of the night by taking another..."
The voice comes and goes, speaking variants of the command...but its all the same. You feel your lips punctured by fine, sharp points and you lips bleed, tasting like dry wine.
Even in your dazed state...you know what you must do to make this painful transition easier...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hero, Newt, Garor, Caelith and Callian - Within seconds, the force will be at your doorstep and you're prepared for it.
Callian - {6 Hits} {Damage Rolls - 6, 2, 4, 8, 2, 5}
A small front of the massive army stumbles, a few figures hit the ground with a thud.
Captain of the Guard - {3 Hits, 1 Crit.} {Damage Rolls = 7, 3, 18}
An orc is struck in the center of his face with an arrow, tumbles and falls, tripping up several others. Still, the tide grows in speed and volume.
Hero - {5 Hits} {Damage Rolls = 7, 7, 6, 3, 4}
The army has reached the walls....
With an audible slam, the first few figures swarm the walls. They snarl, growl and mutter curses in their own language. A few of the soldiers swarm to the doors both in front of the keep and to the door behind, intent on gaining entry that way. Still more hand ladders overhead to those closest to the walls and withdraw grappling hooks and ropes in hopes of scaling the wall to the interior.
The true battle has begun....
{Initiative: Garor, Hero, North Front, Callian, South Front, Caelith, East and West Front.}
{I broke the army into four fronts for initiative sakes, and for ease. I'm thinking of giving the 'fronts' one HP total and when that is gone or depleted, that front is weakend or retreats or whatever. If someone has a better idea, I'm open to suggestions.}
Newt - Digging a small hole, you peer through and look beyond. Although dark, you can make out the rush of the army above the defeaning roar of the footsteps above. You nearly recoil and fall to the ground as several feet find a footstep in your new hole.
As the last of the army trickles up the hill and towards the walls, you finish making the hole big enough for you to squeeze through. Moving into the night, you begin to scout ahead to ensure the safety of others.
{How far do you want to move forward? Into the trees?}
