Krysta, Girud and Galdren - Laucimust and the other mage take to the meditation, an effort to regain their spells. Though you doubt it is the end of their power, surely the 'escape' from Cannon's Foot took plenty of their effort. The remainder of you each find a vantage point to watch the fall of Cannon's Foot from this distance. The fog swells, figures scurry around - from this distance appearing to be no bigger than the smallest ant. You see figures darting about withing the city, all heading towards the base of the giant cannon. Perhaps a defense strategy? Perhaps the wall has already crumbled and they flee for their lives... Whatever the case, there is little you can do from here and your shaking fists and pent up rage reflect it nicely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Callian - [Vein-Riding is like the Hound Archon's Dimension Door ability. Useable in combat w/o an AoO.] Moving through the earth, you sneer as the wounded Troll you leave howls at a missed chance for flesh and you find yourself once again between the Wind Wall and Cannon's Foot, directly behind an overly large Troll. [Attack Roll = 13] The blade barely scrapes over the warted and bulbous skin, but it does garner the attention of the Troll. He spins and rakes his claws down your front. [Attack Roll = 19 (Damned high AC)] The claws do little, only making a horrible noise as they scratch over your armor. The wounded Troll rushes the wall, pressed by the command of his shamans. The other two continue to rip at the ramparts, pulling stone after stone out of the wall. At this rate, it will take less a few seconds for them to tear a sizable hole in the wall.... [Initiative; Callian, The Enlarged Trolls.] ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ---------------- ************* -CE----EE----E- ^____________^ E = Enlarged Troll C - Callian the Cajone - = Normal ground * = Wind Wall ^ or _ = Cannon's Foot Wall ~ = Fog ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hero, Caelith, Garor, Newt and Angelus - A plan is set in place and you feel that you could not go about it quickly enough. Rushing back outside, you see that most of the children and elderly are already near the base of the great cannon, thanks mostly in part to Newt's effort. The remaining soldiers rush about in chaos...trying to stamp out the wildfire of battle. Around the city, you can see green heads poking above walls and lengthy claws tearing at the stone barrier of Cannon's Foot. Some soldiers try to defend the onslaught, only to be ripped, screaming, from the wall and thrown into the fog beyond. The wall still shudders in unison as the smaller Trolls continue to pound away with axes and mauls. The Mortar shakes, the stone rumble...it will not hold much longer. But hopefully it will be more time than you need... The call is sounded and everyone - young, old and able - begin to move to the great cannon. Some, at Caelith's direction, surround Hero and offer protection as powder kegs are rolled to her feet. The remainder offer assistance packing living bodies into the empty shells of 'Fortress-Breaker'. Two...possibly three to a shell. You hope it will be enough... [Angelus isn't around? What happened to him?] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Romar and Yuri - The Dwarves are sad to see you go, but above all, they understand duty and honor. Grandil continues to extend his generosity, offering rations and food for your travels and Marg promises to repeat a few prayers in your honor for your luck. The main door is slid open, barely enough to allow you atop your newfound steeds out into the waning light beyond. You horses are charged for the day and should provide ample power until the morning. Grandil follows you out of the now open door to Bazarkrak, his eyes scanning the horizon for anything. "Be careful...both of ye. May the gods watch yer backs in battle..."With that, Grandil turns and heads back into Bazarkrak - the massive doors seal up behind him. You are left outside, the sun completely set and darkness wrapping over the land like a thick blanket. Your horses stamp their feet, itching to stretch their new legs... Which way will you pull the reigns? __________________________________________________________________________________________

Post copied from previous thread:
When he meets up with Yuri again, this time to depart, Romar knows that none of them have a clue as to where to look first. Head north... North is nearly half this continent, from there position. He then remembers the track he had when he met the dwarves first. Back then it was their only clue, and not much has changed in that matter. He speaks to Yuri: "When Sehanine and I were still unaware of your company, we were following a track we found; the one our target personally left behind. It might still be identifiable, if we go there now. The orcs, if they haven't been touched by other beings, must still be there. The stench of carrion and the animals that prey on it will be our guide. From there on, it will not prove to difficult to refocus on our track. It is our only true hope."Then, Romar will also remember if the weather hadn't been unforgiving to them the last few days. Rain could spoil anything. And finally, he tries to predict the wether for the coming days, so that he may know if they are to hurry before any bad circumstances come into play. Survival +11, and maybe a knowledge (geography) +1 to determine where the place is they should be heading now. And maybe, to find the orcs, I could get a +2 for my favored enemy (orcs), just to find/track/survival their corpses. Your call

As the last shell is filed with its precious cargo Newt looks to his friends and gives a wary smile. We seem to bring destruction to all we seek to help, perhaps we should help the High Elves next. The anger and spite in the small mans voice is an unfamiliar facet to his character one that you almost thought him incapable of. Once all is ready vein ride away from the fort at the signal but instead of simply watching the goings on at the fort Newt has other things in mind finding those who would betray their own friend. Search for the camp they could not have gotten far with such a heavy lode even with magic. Search +11 Hide +19 Move Silent +17

"Oh we will, Newt, we will. I have a plan in mind for that very thing. In due time."
Caelith focuses on getting the barrels prepared. They have about 50 powder kegs to use, which Caelith has roughly divided into 10 for each cardinal direction, and 10 in reserve for other uses. Hero should take charge of one side, using her Enlarged state to hurl the barrels at the enemy - Though she may need to move closer and have a few people to hand the kegs up to her. Caelith will move to the opposite direction, casting a few Floating Disks through use of his wand (about three, if there's time), and loading each one with a powder keg, keeping them spaced out but all within the range of the spell (Caelith will have to move away from the center a bit in order to reach the walls, but he's currently waiting for the trolls to break through to really start the fireworks). He will bring the disks back to retrieve more barrels after the first volley.
The other two directions he assigns people to manage - Garor, if he is available, and Angelus (Can we maybe assume his assistance?) He will advise that they have people roll the barrels down the streets at any breaks in the wall, or alternately offer a few uses of the wand to Angelus, so he can use the same tactic. (Garor is pretty much stuck with rolling them, though, unless you have a better idea).
Caelith shouts tactics. "Withdraw from the walls, let the trolls break through, but continue to fire in your retreat! When the walls are down, let the barrels loose, but keep them spaced out and only aim for large groups! Any trolls leftover can be targetted by all remaining archers stationed on the Cannon's hilltop!"
And Caelith will cast Mage Armor and draw/activate his Rapier in any remaining time. He also dearly hopes these 50 barrels will be enough. Delomme may not be so willing to supply any more...
((Caelith's barrels will be ignited through use of alchemist's fire and prestidigitation - or just arrows on fire, if there are people around to do that. Hero can just have fuses attached to hers, as can Garor, and Angelus. Or whatever other ideas they may have.
Hopefully, things will not get so dire as to sacrifice the Fortress Breaker.
And that's a summary of my battle plan at this point. Also, if Callian comes back at some point, he'll get an Enlarge as well and can go help Hero chuck barrels.))

Yuri nods and makes a further note.
If our intent is to find the vampire, there is no need to search. He is looking for us. However, we can try and attempt to find the trail again if you still desire. We must also aid our companions in searching for the crystals as well for King Strumguard. We cannot simply abandon that mission.
He continues to follow Romar.

[Great!]
Hero, unused to being so tall, takes a moment to get her bearings and then lobs a powder keg at big group of trolls. [Does she have to light a fuse? If so, she does so.] - She will go for the shamans first, grunt types second. She will try to avoid getting hte wall in the blast and she will also try to avoid getting any defenders in the blast.
"HnnnnnggggggAAAAA!" she shouts as she throws.
Enlarge Person Transmutation Level: Sor/Wiz 1, Strength 1 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 round Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels) Target: One humanoid creature Duration: 1 min./level (D) Saving Throw: Fortitude negates Spell Resistance: Yes This spell causes instant growth of a humanoid creature, doubling its height and multiplying its weight by 8. This increase changes the creature’s size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target’s speed. If insufficient room is available for the desired growth, the creature attains the maximum possible size and may make a Strength check (using its increased Strength) to burst any enclosures in the process. If it fails, it is constrained without harm by the materials enclosing it— the spell cannot be used to crush a creature by increasing its size. All equipment worn or carried by a creature is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee and projectile weapons affected by this spell deal more damage. Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature’s possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. This means that thrown weapons deal their normal damage, and projectiles deal damage based on the size of the weapon that fired them. Magical properties of enlarged items are not increased by this spell. Multiple magical effects that increase size do not stack,. Enlarge person counters and dispels reduce person. Enlarge person can be made permanent with a permanency spell. Material Component: A pinch of powdered iron.

When Yuri mentions the search for the crystal, he quickly gains the attention of Romar. He looks somewhat worried, as if he's trying to find an excuse to ignore that problem, but he can't come up with one. His face has always been an open book to most people. He then thinks of something, and he can be honoust at the same time.
"Trust me, I haven't deserted Sturmguard yet, and I don't mean to. By my actions during rest, I have given word to the king of Ravenshead of the existance of the blue crystal in Bazarkrak. By doing this, I have done everything I could to help further the king's goal, as now he knows where to look for another exemplar of these strange crystals, but as a simple visitor I wasn't in the position to make a claim on it for king Sturmguard. Now, we can't go back to king Sturmguard, as time is of the essence, and we don't have any orders that still apply; remember that we were send to the Freehold to save that crystal, and we have done that. I promise you though, that as soon as we stumble on any other crystals, if they even exist at all, like we did in Bazarkrak, we will do everything in our power to secure it for the king.
But currently, we can't just wait hear like bait on a rod; let's turn the odds and chase our enemy before it finds us. When I left my companions, I planned a hunt, not a flight. If he calls me a mouse, then he will learn that not all mice are defenseless, and not all mice like to be chased, and he will learn it the hard way. You, above all, must understand."
He reaches for a particular arrow he stowed away carefully. It glooms with the power of enchantment, and as he shows it his eyes narrow, his face hardens but a cold grin appears on it too. He whispers:
"I am no defenseless mouse at all. It will take but one arrow... one arrow and a bit of luck. I took this arrow of slaying from the treasury of the dwarves. It is reserved for one vampire only. It would be good to learn of his name, if he has one, as I would scribe it into it so that he may realise who took care of him when his final hour has gone."
He quickly reconceals his deadly weapon as if he is anxious that anyone might learn of his plan. He then makes his way back to the track he left a few days ago, if Yuri agrees.

Callian instantly melts into the ground, thanking the Light that the blow failed to do any serious damage.
He appears again next to one of the trolls tearing at the walls, raises his sword high in the air, then plunges it at the creature's thigh.

Garor casts enlarge on himself (so he can roll 2 at a time) and begins moving the barrels he also does his best to direct others to do the same.

I Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

Krysta watches the elves, as they meditate. Her mind races from their meditation and the seige at Cannon's Foot.
Damn these elves! This is one too many times that things have gone awry. Elves with their own agendas, forsaking the aid of all the others in the kingdom. Sturmguard with his defenses are sure to fall if aid is not given. I pray that they make it to The Glade and find the other crystal. And I pray that the dwarves open their great halls and aid in this tragedy. I pray....no.... Praying has done nothing thus far. We have managed to escape, but for what? To be used as pawns in the queen's own one-sided agenda? To turn our backs while others perish? To watch helplessly as the Master's hoards overrun the kingdoms one by one? No! I can not stand by. It is time....
Krysta moves towards Girud and Galdren. Once she has their attention, she looks them in their eyes, and says, "I do not agree with the actions of the elves. I can not speak for you two, but I do not think that I can follow these elves in their own agenda. We are being used as pawns. Nothing more than that. Our own actions and ideas are for nothing. Sure, we have helped them possibly gain another crystal, but at what expense? At the lives of those in Cannon's Foot? Of the lives of our companions...our friends? I am sorry, but if I were to decide on the crystal, or to save one of you...I would choose to save you. Together, we could then strike back and take back the crystal at another time. But that is just me....I am not the leader that you had hoped for. Even the elves think of us as pawns...expendable pawns. I do not think I am up to being used any more. Look, even Cannon's Foot stands up to the Master. Foolish? Stupid? No! Courageous and Honorful! I would long to stand by their sides, fighting now. But without their ability to move through the earth, we have fled. I know not of what their fate is, but I pra...HOPE that they survive. My prayers have gone unanswered for too long. Even the gods themselves seem to only stand aside and watch. As if the Master himself has warranted them to not inteject. If they will not stand up and aid, then I will do it myself..."
Krysta looks at them, for their reactions and comments. After all, the elves are meditating...

Yuri listens to Romar and then speeks again.
Very well ranger, we will continue the hunt. Of course he is our biggest threat right now and plans to kill us both. It is good to hear that you have taken some initiative in fulfilling the king's duty. But, let us move on then, shall we?
He waits for Romar to lead the way.

Galdren gestures towards the elves, voice full of bitterness, "I agree with you Krysta, however, we made our choice back there and know we have no choice but to follow these elves until we get into a position where we can actually aid the survival of everybody else. What Laucimust describes as ambition is merely the lack of caring for other creatures on this plane. I don't even understand how she can sit back and watch as the Master rolls over everybody else without expending some of her resources to at least attempt to slow him down during her quest! I agree that we're being used as pawns, as brute strength when needed and discarded when not. But, as I said before, we are stuck at present until we can find someplace to be of use."
