{Holy cow...the post length of all players in this thing is great! Excellent job by everyone!} {Newt is out of comission for the moment, return is unknown and even questionable. Caelith is returning home from the boonies of Oklahoma today, so we'll see him shortly I imagine.} __________________________________________________________________________________________ Krysta, Caelith, Hero, Garor, Newt, Girud, Galdren and Callian - The DemonWing lazily drifts along, gently rocking back and forth in a river of the darkest, light-sucking ebony you have ever seen. You now what lies beneath the stone hull of this ship - the river Styx. Supposedly, through the various legends and myths passed down through time, that just a touch of the black river will erase all memories of the victim instantly. They will become a mindless thing, a puppet of flesh and nothing more. Perhaps that is the only way to resolve this conflict...erase everyone's memories.... Looking about the ship, it is glaring clear that the party is divided again. Hero and Callian, paladins in arms and siblings in code, remain close to the starboard railing of the bow. Krysta, frustrated and tired of fighting each other and not the Master, slinks to the rear of the ship with the lovesick goblin Mordrock in tow. Girud, Galdren, Garor and Caelith mill about, unsure of what side to take if there truly is a side to take. Girud has expressed his distaste for the code of the divine warriors, and this distances them even further. The grey wastes of Hades expand to either side of the ship for infinite lengths. You see the occasional dark spot on the horizon, flapping wings, ebony outline and nothing more. At one point, a hagged antideluvian woman stands on a rockoutcropping, eyeing you as you sail past. She is a sickly grey color, covered in warts and leaning heavily on a stick that seems laced with veins. Most peculiar of these events is the approach of three chitinous daemons - mezzolths - that approach and leer from the banks of the hundred-foot wide river. They mock and jest, speaking in twisted common about peeling the flesh from the bones of those on board. However, once the ship closes distance and the trio gets a close look at her features, they turn on their heels and race across the wastes - unable to place distance between themselves and the ship fast enough. Above all, the DemonWing remains on her course, gently pushing against the black currents beneath.... Krysta - Mordrock listen intently to all you have to say, beady eyes studying your every feature and seeming to fill with sorrow as each word drops from your lips. He stems the flow of tears and calms himself to answer. "Mordrock follow because Mordrock have life of hell so far. Mordrock always beat up. Mordrock always laughed at. Mordrock always scrape by, barely above other goblins."
"But with Krysta, Mordrock equal. Mordrock questioned in truth about 'Master'. Krysta defend Mordrock. Krysta listen to Mordrock."
"Krysta make Mordrock life no longer hell...no matter where Mordrock currently is." The small goblin takes a moment to glance to the outlying landscape that truly is hell. He manages a meager smile and then stands, giving a woman her privacy. All - As the DemonWing continues its descent into the depths of the unknown, the enigmatic and iniviible first mate. Ungurth, approaches. His disguise is a mocking visage of a skeleton, probably only worn to give something to focus on when talking to him. "You should be below decks." He looks specifically to Hero and Callian, paladins in hell. "The wastes will not stand for the holy among them for long..."With an empty glove painted like a skeletal hand, Ungurth points to the horizon off the port side. There, collecting like a swarm of tiny insects and far off, is an infinite collection of black spots... ...demons... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yuri and Romar - Yuri returns from inches above the water of the ocean and the strange disappearance of the ship with your companions. He curses and sprays venomous words, but you can't help but wonder - Why did they attack? Why were they on that ship?Regardless, Veya motions with an outstretched hand. "Come...we must make haste now. We need to ensure we reach land by dawn or Yuri will suffer..."Vraak and the birds tighten their grip and flap hard, pressing the wind past your face with alarming force. The trip continues for a few more hours, the questions racing about your mind like wild horses across a plain. They seem to grow and multiply, hurting your head by the time you spot land. Your head is pounding with questions and ideas, ringing in your ears loudly and disruptively. Or maybe it's the giant sphere of shifting metal far below you causing the headache... Looking down, you spot a small section of land jutting into the sea. Surrounding the tip of this penisula is a shifting and never-ending maelstrom of metal. Pieces as large as the birds carrying you shift and grind against each other, mixed with pieces as small as a needle. It seems to have no center, just a solid sphere of metal. Veya sails over this and guide her Rocs to land a safe distance from the sphere where you can actually hear each other talk. You are placed on firm ground and she hops from the back of her bird and spots a small cave in the hillside - suitable for shelter from the day which is two hours away. Veya raises her voice to be heard above the metal storm. "Your Hidden City is supposedly somewhere in these hills. There is a cave suitable for shelter from the day." Veya speaks coldly, a womanly sign that she's not pleased with leaving the one she cares for. "I'm not sure what that metal sphere is we passed over, but I'd suggest staying away from it."
"So, are we to fly to Ravenshead now?"__________________________________________________________________________________________

Yuri does remember one rumor of the "Hidden City" that concerns him and askes the obvious question. His tone of voice is still consumed with anger from the previous encounter with his former party.
Are you sure it is a wise idea for a vampire to enter a conclave of clerics fighting against 'The Master'? We already ran into trouble with two "paladins".
He puts a sarcastic emphasis on the word paladin.
Uppon reaching safe haven, he answers Veya's question.
That is for Romar to decide.

Romar quickly dismounts from his beloved Húna as they touch the ground, pleased that he can finally stretch his legs after such a long seat. He first addresses Yuri's question. "I do not know if it is wise, Yuri, but we will find a way like we always did. If it proves to be absolutely inevitable that they shall recognize and attack you at first sight, then we can always resort to a disguise, or perhaps you should simply wait until I return. But if this place is truly a place of grand wisdom, then I hope they will not be so narrow-minded as those we just encountered."Romar also notices Veya's sadness with this situation. As he sees her trying to remain strong, he admires her even more, but he also pities her. 'Why does it have to be this way?' he asks to himself, but finds no true answer. He thinks for a while, not sure of what to say. Then he makes up his mind, and walks nearer to Veya, looking her into the eyes. "In Ravenshead you would be safest, Veya. I want you to be safe; I want you to live through all this and wait for good times to come, after the suffering you have been plagued with all your life.
However, I feel that you have other desires. You will find no peace with waiting in Ravenshead, no? You are stronger then any woman I know of, and I think you should decide for yourself wether you wish to follow us further and leave your fellow riders behind to go to Ravenshead, or go back along with your riders and wait at Ravenshead.
I only want to see you happy, Veya."Regardless of wether or not Veya decides to follow or turn back, Romar will, after she has spoken, decide that he must do something else as well, before the riders leave. "Will you please wait another few minutes? I would ask of those who return to Ravenshead that they will give its king a letter of mine."If they agree, he would ask writing material of Yuri, and if he gives it begin writing another letter to king Sturmguard. To Your Majesty, king Sturmguard
It has been some time since you have heard of me, and even though you have been unable to answer my letter due to obvious reasons, I trust that it has reached you and can now only hope that the nature of our relationship is still well, for I have already given you my most sincere apologies.
I write to you this letter because I have most recently been troubled by a dire development. It is with pain in my hearth that I inform you of the treason of your most trusted volunteers. I am speaking about my former companions, none excluded, namely Callian, Hero, Krysta, Girud, Garor, Newt, Galdren and Caelith. Before I shall try to explain what brought me to think of them as traitors, I must inform you again on our further progress. I shall keep it as short as possible.
It is hard to recall where last time my writing ended, but I believe you are aware of our visit to the dwarven capital of Bazarkrak? The situation there was most dire, but luckily the renown fury of the dwarves was quickly aroused after their king Grandil was restored to good health, and the drow and duergar rebels were quickly surpressed. Before we left their people, we were honoured most lavishly, and I am glad that this pleasantry was my last memory I had of my visit to the dwarven kingdom.
Furthermore, I wish to stress out that these dwarves, though hidden, are vigilant and I am certain that one day these stout people will come out of their sealed gates and prove their mettle once and for all to those who have accused them (wrongly if I may say so) of cowardliness.
We left their capital and we came upon the ruins of Rocroost Bay. Yes, my sire, it grieves me to bring this news, but again evidence can be given of another place lost to the Master. We did however find a group of fine warrior-women along with their helpful giant birds, and they offered us aid immediately. They are the same warriors that, if all goes as planned, have brought you this message. They are to be trusted, if I can say as such to you.
However, to come to the point, I and Yuri were brought accross the large bay that lies behind Rocroost Bay by the giant eagles, and on our way we stumbled upon a most troubling sight: it was a ship, if it can even be called as such, but it was decorated with features so evil that they were beyond the comprehension of a good-hearted soul; sails of flesh, the appearances of many a demonic visage on it, and as their maidenhead, your honour, they had nothing less then a vile demon figurine! It sailed under the name of DemonWing, as if its appearance was not yet enough! But all of that, I could have put aside, if not I found my former companions in the midst of many an undead servant, followers of the Master!
First, I concluded that they might have been captured, but upon asking them, they said they were still in league with you, and that they were on their way to Hell itself, only to prove of their lies a moment later when Hero attacked without warning and Yuri almost fell into the water to drown. It could've been a single mind turned mad, but the next thing I saw were others of their group drawing weapons as well!
Yuri could only barely flee, and we intended to leave the group quickly before matters grew worse, when suddenly it became clear that the greatest work of devils had yet to come: they vanished in an instant, ship and all, into a most unnatural fog that dissappeared as quickly as it came.
I understand this news will come to you at a bad time, but I feel I should warn you before they next appear at your court and draw blades at you for all I can imagine. Instead, next time they approach you, I would recommend taking no chances. Treason must be dealt with like any other evil in this word; by the sword itself!
We are now furthering our journey, further into the north, your Majesty, to do good and to fight evil where-ever it is. I still know I have pledged to you my services once, and I only ask that you are content while I perform them in my own way. We are ever closing in on our goals, and please believe me that they will also be in the interest of Ravenshead itself. I hope that my continued information through letters, which I have decide to continue more frequently, the news of another crystal in the dwarven kingdom and the warriors that will no doubt have come with this letter are reason enough for you to believe me.
Yours sincerely, Romar Belamor

If Sturmguard had not sent us here to aid Callian and Caelith, I am sure that the group would have split up again, to keep tempers from flaring. But I follow his orders, even though he will learn of the Paladins unyielding attempts to destroy everything they do not understand. It will be their folly, and I pray that their choices do not cause others to die.Krysta stands, looking at the first mate when he asks that the Paladins go below. "Should we all go below the hull, or can those that choose not to watch from above?" Should he ask that they all go down below, she will head into the hull, quietly. She nears the rear of the hull, sharpening her blades once again. The continuous sound of the stone against metal is a sound she grew up with. One that reminds her of home.... Should she be able to stay above, she turns to the first mate, "What exactly are you and your crew? You do not seem to be that which you want to appear like. And also, is this your first time here in the depths of Hell?"

Yours sincerely, Romar Belamor (OOC: Don't worry about the note Wizard Keep in mind, everything conversed before was actually said.) Yuri hands him the material required to write the note. As he observes the material written, he realizes something that he missed before. Snatching it from Romar's hand, he rips it up. They are not traitors Romar! I told you this before! We are more of traitors than they are! I have changed into the thing we hunt and you have not set out on the mission we started with. Don't you see? WE are the traitors in the king's eyes. Everyone here is following a vampire. That is why Hero attacked me. That is why Callian attacked you. They think that I am using you all to my own goals, presumably evil acts. Krysta explained her story to me and I believe her. They seek a crystal like the one found in Ravenshead. While they were imprisoned in the goblin mines, they found another crystal like the one in Ravenshead. According to Krysta, it is the key to defeating the undead horde. Another crystal has been located. It is at the depts of hell itself where Karn's soul is being held captive. I can only imagine that the ship is used to gain entry into Hell without being spotted by the daemons. They seek that which will aid the king while we find one vampire out of a thousand. We are doing NOTHING to help the land heal. The only thing we have truely done is save the dwarven king and save Veya and her riders, that's all. They have probably done more than we have to find the crystals to help Strumguard fight the war.
And what are we doing? Finding vengence for the act of one man while an army of death is sweeping the land. Were not doing a damn thing! That is why I have debated about finding Hirsuthe. Once we banish him, then what? By the time we find him, 'The Master' has Ravenshead in the palm of his hand. There will be a time for vengence Romar, but it is not now! Let us smite that which plagues the land first before we seek justice. His next sentence is clearly an ultimatum. He walks beside Veya and delivers. Either you come with me to Ravenshead, or you go hunt Hirsuthe on your own. I'm not going to sit and write in my journal in a damn cave or go up in front of a bunch of clerics that will smite me with but a gaze while Ravenshead could be besiged at any moment! Veya needs you by her side. She has finally found light in this dark world. That light is you. Are you coming with us or not?

Yuri, wow. That was unexpected, but good.
When Yuri tries to snatch the letter from his hands, Romar would not let him without resistance. No matter if he can keep his letter to himself or Yuri takes it and destroys it, the following he will reply to Yuri's words of doubt, with a raised voice, though not yet shouting: "Why do you doubt our mission, Yuri? We have come this far, we have done great things on our way and now that we stand upon the doorstep of succes, you plan on giving up, walking straight back to those who, for all we know, might prefer to put a stake through your hearth and forever silence your righteous lust for revenge and your craving for a clean reputation among those who accuse you as a traitor? Where is the reasoning in that, my friend? Will you abandon me now; now that we have both finally come to a mutual understanding and acceptance after so long a struggle; now that we have just come accross our former friends and have nothing but Krysta's words to rely upon that their explanation for being on a boat of devils among the death is that they wish to seek a crystal in Hell; now that we are but one step away of taking out the vampire who deems himself powerful enough to overthrow the Master himself? I find no reasoning in that, Yuri, even if all that is written in this letter about treason is untrue."Romar sighs, knowing that he and Yuri have been bound to each other by faith, and that in their collaboration might be the decisive factor of winning or loosing. He tones down his voice a little, speaking straight from his hearth: "Please reconsider, Yuri. We need each other. Both of us have been irreversibly hurt by Hirsuthe and seek revenge. If we stop this hunt, he will laugh in our face, and shape our dreams into nightmares forever from now. Also, you will find no understanding anywhere but with me. Hero was the physical evidence of this sad fact. And lastly, I have taken the responsibility of protecting you from your inner self as well as protecting this world from you. If we seperate, we will both fail. But if we go back to Ravenshead, so too will we both fail.
Therefore, you must see it the other way around: let us finish our hunt now, and then, after we have the ability to prove of our goodwill to the king, return and ask for understanding. I know it is hard to ignore your feelings of sorrow towards those you have pledged a service to, for I feel it as well, but no-one will benefit if we return now. If we go back we may find only injustice at the hands of the most just king I have known.
And for Veya, I shall be only a very dim light until I have set myself and the world around me straight again. We have spoken about this. She can join us as well, if we continue."If Romar's letter is still whole, he will still want to send it to the king. "It only says what we have seen. The king should be made aware of our ventures if he is to ever forgive us. It will also make certain the king is aware of a possible treachery, and a sneak attack on him can then be avoided. King Ravenshead is just; he will know better then us what to do with traitors, but we are here to detect treachery so that he may act on it."

Yuri addresses Romar's concerns, realizing his mistake in his previous statement and plans.
No Romar, we will not fail if we separate. I have already failed with this taint upon me. I have failed when Hirsuthe changed me. My family name can no longer be restored. You, however, will no longer be burdened by me no longer. You will be free to go wherever you please without me hiding in the shadows.
What makes you believe that a city of clerics will greet us with open arms? What makes you believe that the king will accept us by slaying Hirsuthe? Don't you see? I am already dead. Mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally I am dead in the eyes of everyone. Anyone that follows me shall fall as well with the bad reputation of following an evil being. Slaying Hirsuthe will not revive my family's reputation. My family's reputation is shattered now that I am a vampire. I cannot brand that taint onto you nor Veya nor any of her riders.
I still believe those on that boat still fight the good fight. They claimed that they never recieved a letter from you. The paladins would have died trying to slay the rest of the group if they were aiding the minions of Hell. The paladins attacked me because of what I have become. I tried to be open to them as with you, but their stubborness has blinded them. The others I cannot say the same for. At least they spoke with me. That at least shows they are open to the prospect of a vampire aiding against 'The Master'. If they were traitors, they would have tried to talk me into joining them into Hell. I still believe they are not traitors. I assume they already have better footing with the king than both of us. If they do in fact return and I am right, then Veya's riders will be burnished with my taint of becoming traitors. If you are going to tell the tale as if they were traitors, at least tell him I am a vampire. Tell him of what we have done. Remind him of how paladins are suppose to act. Paladins do not ambush, they give a warning to the creature to be gone. They ambushed me when I come in friendly terms. This is not the behavior of a paladin.
But even paladins make mistakes.
I know of the comradere we have grown and there is no payment that can ever repay that debt that I owe you. But please understand, I cannot follow you everywhere you go Romar. You cannot shield me from this world forever. Your life ends much faster than mine. This hunt cannot be done with the both of us. You and Veya have more freedom than I. There is no point in dragging the both of you with me in damnation and leave me to live with that for the rest of my eternal life. Hirsuthe is a fight I must fight alone. Hirsuthe wants you to find vengence. He knows it will lead to your demise. He cannot do such with me, for I have already fallen. Let me deliver that blow to him. Huna still lives thanks in part to the dwarves. She has found peace. I have not.
Please Romar, I do not wish to take more lives down with me than those three I have already taken. The clerics may know another crystal's location or a way to venture into the Deathspew Swamps without becoming dead yourself. Either of which are still in reach and of very vital importance. But we have to heal the land as well. Killing one vampire is not going to accomplish that nor gain the respect of the king. Maybe the king will respect you and you will find peace, but I will find no such thing. Let me deal with Hirsuthe alone. There is no sense in wasting your life for one vampire of many. Once he dies, someone else will take his place to claim the throne.
Please, I must do this on my own. Find the Hidden City, gain any information you can from it, and go to Ravenshead with Veya and her riders. Plead your case to the king for me. Please Romar, this is the only way I can repay my debt to you. I won't say goodbye, I will come find you both again. I still have enough restraint to last until Hirsuthe draws breath no more.
Another tear rolls from his cheek.
Please Romar....

"But what makes you think you owe any debt to me? What makes you think you are dragging me along with you to my doom? Were you the one that made this path for me? Have you ever forced me or manipulated me in any way to continue my journey across it? No, I did this because I wanted to! Maybe it is not as physically evident that I will never be able to find peace like in your case. Maybe what Hirsuthe did to me is even child's play compared to the infliction he brought upon you. Maybe Húna's fate is already restored as best as is humanly possible. But all that combined doesn't make me feel at peace until I have the head of the beast that did all of this to you, to me and to Veya and her people on a pike!
So it might not be what you would wish for, but I will give you two options. Either we do this together, or we do this seperately, but in either case I will need you and you will need me, and therefore I prefer the first. If all the world around us deems us to be traitors but I know that we together have protected and avenged the innocents hurt by Hirsuthe, then I still could find the peace I crave sooner then when all the world would praise us as hero's while my hearth knows it is a coward's hearth.
The choice lies with you, Yuri, Noble Vampire. Make it without obligations, without worries of debts you think you owe me."

Yuri breathes out a sigh.
Very well ranger, if that is what you wish. But do not say I have not warned you of the consequences of befriending a vampire. But I must ask this simple request. Do not label those on that boat as traitors, for I feel that they are not. If they are, I will make them vampires myself. I will remain here while you and Veya find the city.
