3 - 061: The Third Piece

[K Man]

Krysta, Caelith, Hero, Garor, Newt, Girud, Galdren and Callian - [Newt is in the process of obtaining, or at least entertaining, regaining internet access. However, for the time being, consider him inert.]

Caelith inspects the water, searching for signs of the dangerous and mind-numbing river Styx. [Knowledge Planes Check.] The water, although dark with murk and filth, does not appear to be the solid ebony waters of the River Styx.

Callian focuses his mind, mentally shutting out the horrid pounding this vessel and the plane outside give him, and determines the same thing.

This is not the water of the infamous river, merely putrid water. However, the water does radiate the sense of evil...or rather something in it...

Just as debates begin about getting the boats from the previous room and whether or not to split up, the water bursts forth at three places. The columns of water recede to reveal three demons, apparently lying in wait for your approach.

They land on the deck around you, ready to battle...

Yuri and Romar - (From Last round, Romar's Second attack roll = 24] The arrow barely lands in the giant's shoulder, driving into the soft flesh. [Damage Roll = 7]

Hill Giant is wounded. (Down 37)

[Initiative: Romar, Yuri, The Giant]

Romar spurs his mount on, moving closer, firing and then retreating. [Attack Rolls = 24/9] The first arrow lands squarely in the massive creature's chest, sending a spurt of blood flying. [Damage Roll = 11]

Hill Giant is wounded. (Down 48)

Yuri focuses again, sending missles flying towards the giant and his boulder. [(The giant does not have DR) REf Save, fail.] The giant fails to sidestep the attack, instead placing his face directly in the path of it. [Damage Roll = 35]

Hill Giant is severly wounded. (Down 83)

The Hill Giant's weapons are also struck. (I'm assuming the huge-ass club right?) [Ref Save, Fail. Damage Roll = 18 (Not a d6 or 2 man, sorry.) Bypasses hardness right?] The club is scarred and scratched, however it is huge and seems mostly unaffected.

Giant's Club is down. (18 of 50 [Remember, it's a huge wooden greatclub, from a tree, pretty hardy])

Angered at the man firing missles made of magic at him, the Giant gets a good running start and brings his huge greatclub around in an arc over his shoulder. [Attack Roll = 37] The club lands squarely in Yuri's chest, driving him to the ground. [Damage Roll = 15, Pushback] Yuri is sent sprawling backwards a good ten feet, if not more.

Garor starts to move up to where the pair of demon burst forth. If he can get ina shot with hit maul he will

Gladdened that his water is not from the Styx, Girud feels a little better about venturing forward. He is prepared to head back to grab one of the four boats, when the creatures erupt from the nearby water to land near him. He was not anticipating this, but once he had heard that the moment battle starts is the moment that the best laid plans go awry, this was no different.

If it's battle they want, battle it is.

Charge!

Moving so as not to obstruct Hero's path, Callian begins to draw his longsword and takes four quick strides, his blade leveled in front of him, guarding against attacks, waiting for an opening.

(Callian will move one square SW, and then two squares W, attacking the eastern demon (the only one w/in reach @ this point). +8, 1d8+1d6+4, and as you noticed, I'm using Expertise for 2, so my new AC is 27.)

[Wizard]

Cursing himself for not being fast enough to react before Callian closed with the first demon, Caelith nocks an arrow as he moves into position---between Hero and the water. No distractions, he thinks, pulling the bowstring back.

Then he releases the arrow, sending it screaming through the air toward its demonic mark.

(Udjat's gone for a bit, so he asked me to post for Caelith. +7, 1d8+1, +2d6 more if they're chaotic, which I'm assuming they are. Caelith is aiming for the westernmost demon.)

Again, Romar quickly releases another two arrows aimed at the giant beast, in hopes that one of them will find its way through its thick hide into its hearth. He notices the fierce attack and sees Yuri on the ground and on his back, and he decides he must step in between.

He quickly rides forward, so that he threatens the giant if he moves up to give another such blow to Yuri, and meanwhile he draws his two swords. Even though he can't entirely cover Yuri from such a large creature without entirely forgetting his own defenses, he again tries to make the giant focus on him by shouting at it with a fierce battle cry. To Yuri he quickly says:

"Take your distance! I will keep it busy!"

Yuri is now getting angry. He thinks to himself...

This beast must fall... NOW!

Suddenly, his form changes to that of a gas and moves away from the giant as far as he can, out of arms reach and closer to the boulder.

Somewhat taken aback by the sudden appearance of the demons, Galdren hesitates a half second, just long enough to see Girud draw his weapon and charge the beasts. Deciding that the whole purpose of demons is to be killed anyway, Galdren follows suit, drawing his katana and charging after Girud.

OOC: Dan, remind me to ask you after the battle if you could remove my ghoul fever. I've been meaning to ask, but I keep forgetting.

(Ha! Remove disease will see use for once! And when I'm higher level, you can get more than one disease per week, and I can STILL cure you!)

Hero attacks the demon right in front of her with a cry.

Seeing everyone burst forward with their own actions, Krysta simply shakes her head. Tactics were obviously not the ideal concept for this type of group.

She can only imagine the fine order that would have taken plce, had the group had a resemblance to any sort of order. But instead, with the times as such as this, headfirst actions such as diving into a battle with demons surely did not surprise her anymore.

She can only think of the proper way to deal with this battle. "Hold your actions! Archers! Let loose your volleys! Paladins, ready charges for after the archers have let loose their arrows and softened the enemy. Should the enemy try to charge or use magic, counter act with arrows from the the goblin and myself! Let them come to us, as we will be ready."

She watches, as hesitantly, they turn to her, and decide to listen. Caelith lets loose his arrows, aimed for one of the beasts. Mordrock does the same, now being able to snipe with full effect. A truelly nice shot, as it embeds itself into the beasts neck. The beasts try to retaliate, attempting to overun Hero and Girud, the two most prone enemies. But with careful planning, two more arrows let loose from Krysta's bow, as they seek out the enemy. Just as soon as the arrows are loosed, Callian, Hero, Girud and Galdrens readied actions take place, charging at the enemy before they can react. Bringing their weapons down on the enemy, the battle is quickly over, as everyone had their part.....

Krysta shakes off the battle sequence in her head, and simply mutters to Mordrock, "We need to take care of this FAST!" Mordrock sneers, taking aim with his shortbow. He turns from target to target, checking which one would be the best target for his shot. He moves next to Hero, to the South of her, and takes his aim. Letting loose his arrow, with a quick, "Hiiyaaah!"

+9 to hit (BAB+3, DEX+2, SIZE+1, MWork Shortbow +1, Bracers +1, Point Blank Shot +1) No penalty for Callina being in Melee. Not bad for a level 4 goblin! 1d4dmg +2d6 Sneak Attack for Flat Footed

Krysta waits until the goblin can get off his deadly arrows, and then acts next. She quickly drops her bow, and grabs her weapons of choice. The blade quickly envelops itself in fire, as it is pulled from its sheath. She also grabs her shortsword, to help in parrying any attack on her. She moves as she grabs her weapons, towards Callian. She spies Hero's lust for battle, and decides to take advantage of it. She delays her attack, letting the Paladin take full effect of her powers.

Krysta is dropping her bow, moving next to Callian, allowing Hero to attempt a charge with full effect. Should the demons try and charge Hero, Krysta will slice at them with full force. Krysta has a readied action to attack the first demon that comes into her melee range. If they continue to move, she will still get additinoal AoO's.

OOC - Just to clarify: Move action to move next to Callian, directly east of him while drawing her weapons. Readied action to attack the first demon that comes into her melee range. Should the demon be charging Hero, Krysta will take her attack, plus an AoO on the same demon.
