3 - 074: The Third Piece

The archers take their position and aim at the demonic door, ready to hail arrows. The more heavily armed folk take the positions guarding the door, though it is small and cramped. [I'm assuming the following positions?]

The door is thrown open and the stench just hits you like a club to the head. The interior of this dirty room is littered with blood, feces and entrails. Unholy symbols, painted in blood, cover the walls and a table nearby is littered with grotesque, unidentifiable remains.

Also in this room are eight, Ape-Like humanoid demons that snarl and race towards the door as soon as it's opened.

The archers, however, are ready for that...

[Surprise round fire] Krysta = 23/15. Mordrock = 19, Caelith = Nat. 20, Crit. Confirm, Fail.] Two arrows slice through the air and land into the flesh of the demons, forcing plhegm covered mouths to snarl ferociously.

Yuri and Romar - Making your way past the now-inactive stone construct, you come to the next trial in this arduous path. A few hundred feet from where you just where, you come to a stone bridge not more than two feet wide.

To either side of the thin strip of rock, the ravine disappears and becomes a seemingly bottomless pit. The rocky strip itself is covered with thin, needle-like rocks that look as though they would slice flesh to shreds just walking near them, let alone over them.

Next to the beginning of this bridge is a small altar. Atop the altar is a rock, about two feet in diameter, slick and ebony in surface. A perfect circle of darkness. Beneath this stone is a plaque, again covered in scripture of the angels.

Looking across the hundred foot long or more bridge, you spot another altar at the other end, however it is devoid of a stone similar to this one.

The message is clear...

OOC - Galdren and Girud were to be up front... Krysta, Callian, directly behind them. To the sides, flanking the doorway and the two front warriors, Hero and Garor. Flanking Krysta and Callian would be Mordrock and Caelith

Garor seeing realizing that he is wounded as well, heals himself (cure light 1D8+6) and prepares to heal a companion if they take a nasty hit.

Yuri gazes upon the bridge and the stone. He informs Romar of the text and simply states:

I will go first, remain here.

He takes the rock from the alter and moves for the bridge. Taking one step forward at a time, he crosses the bridge.

Callian will delay until Caelith's action, then take a 5-ft step east, sword at the ready.

Caelith, meanwhile, will take a potshot with his longbow at demon 1, then take a 5-ft step SE. +7, 1d8+1 (axiomatic, if that makes a difference).

If we allow these beasts to exit the door (mebbe two at a time), we'll have them trapped. Much better odds to actually defeat these beasties without taking heavy casualties.

From Krysta's grouping, we should try to accomplish this:

Callian and Krysta both step sideways, Girud and Galdren step back, and Mordrock and Caelith move back too. (it will take us till next round to fully accomplish this formation. Don't forget that you can 5 ft step before or after your attacks.)

Girud will delay his action until the first demon approaches; he will then attack hoping to cleave the SOB in two.

p.s. Kman, I never got my healing from the last round. How much healing do I receive?

Again, Romar is oblivious to what purpose the stone on the altar serves, as well as how they should be crossing this bridge. The last thing he wants is to destroy his feet while the end of their journey is still out of sight. Yuri translates the text, and it seems the clerics of the Hidden City are not taking all of this lightly. Entry into the city nearly seems like a punishment on its own right.

When Yuri tells him to stay while he takes the test first, Romar wished to object as he has been sacrificing himself enough for a moment, but Yuri already continues. He looks at what happens with Yuri, ready to aid if he has to. If all goes well, Romar will follow the same way Yuri did.

Krysta turns to Mordrock, saying in Goblin, "Box them in, shoot them down!"

Mordrock moves Southeast, with a 5 foot step, and releases his attack on the demons. +6 to hit, included cover, and dmg = 1d4+1 for Precise Shot

Krysta, sensing that she can actually get some hits in should the formation work, moves to where Mordrock was, while drawing her Longsword and Shortsword. She drops the bow in her new square as well.

Should the front fighters take their step back, she will release her attack on the demons, when they step forward.

(Free action to drop bow, Move action for 5 foot step and drawing BOTH weapons - as per the rules for two weapon fighting - and then delay action to strike the first demon within her reach.)

+10 to hit, 1d8+4 +1d6fire, 17-20/x2

Galdren, hearing Girud's words and glancing over at him, nods his approval and immediately takes a 5 foot step to stand next to Girud, swords at the ready.

Ready an attack with my katana as soon a demon gets into reach.

{Yes it would, but that has nothing to do with denying you a full attack. If you ready (or delay for that matter) you still get a full turn, your just waiting for something (or some time) to happen before you do so. If you delay past initiative count 1 you would lose all actions for that round, but you could still full attack if you choose regardless of initiative.

In short you can Full attack so long as you've done nothing else to hinder it (like a move action); that attack can happen on a 27 as easily as a 1, it's just a matter of who goes and when they do it.

(Really the only reason you would ever ready an action is if you wanted to interrupt the flow of someone else's action---disrupt spellcasting, stop a charge---whatever. Delaying doesn't let you do that---you have to act in between others' actions.
