4 - 038: The Fourth Piece

Romar -

The queen continues that powerful, almost intoxicating smile and demeanor of hers.



"You continually please with words me Romar..."

"I do not want to divert an entire regiment of Elves to this cause, important as it may be, we would leave ourselves open to attack."

She shifts a bit, keeping her regal pose.

"In this, I would ask you to travel to the Dune Palace alone, seeking their aid. Uncover the location of the crystal in the palace, learn as much as you can about its defenses...guards, wards and spells."

"And then return. Simple no?"

The queen awaits your response to this call for duty.

You pause for a second, wondering if this truly will be simple.

[Knowledge Check, Geography] The Dune Palace is named as such because it rests in the heart of a large desert. The wastelands surrounding it are harsh, relentless and filled with only the gods know what. Though hard to get to, it is not impossible and those that do make it often are taken into the palace walls as citizens.

{Sorry, it would take a Knowledge Local or History check to determine the things you want. Geography is more for where it is, climate etc.}

All but Romar -

Rushing across the field, Mordrock nods at Krysta's command and takes a flying leap into the still-smoking hole in the side of the fortress. Struggling, he grips rocks and heaves his small body through the hole, his kicking feet are the last to be seen.

After a second, you hear him shout from the hole.



"Is ok....come on in!"

And with that...the assault on the fortress begins.

{KMan, would the explosion have knocked over (or killed) any of the ogre thralls? It seems to me with a blast that big it sould have cleared or wounded atleast a few.}

- No for two reasons. It's a finite point, designed to punch a small hole in a very thick object. 5ft. radius tops. Two, undead Ogres are not susceptible to consussions or stun damage.

{Oh, I forgot to mention it in my post earlier, but they should have one more than your claiming KMan. Don't forget they have the shard from Boone's Freehold that we brought them.}

- This I will give you. Romar, there is one more crystal than I wrote about...but they still need one more, you know, like it was part of the storyline or something.

Romar knows it will be an arduous journey toward the Dune Palace from his own knowledge, regardless of the well-considered words of the queen. He heard some vague tales about the desert and how inhospitable it was. He considered his options before he answered.

There was one thing that came to the fore of his mind, something which he had stowed away for quite some time. Normally, he wouldn't dare to ask, but he had learned over the long time of traveling that only those who asked received answers:

"Simple enough. I shall go about this task with all haste, but first I must implore you to consider something."

He looked at the queen and also to the prince, as if checking to see whether permission was granted to speak, and then resumed:

"I wonder if none of the knowledgeable elven folk have ever heard of the name Hirsuthe. 'Tis the name of a powerful vampire, a servant to the Master, though I fear that would he be allowed to operate freely, one day we might not whisper frightened words of the Master, but of his renegade servant Hirsuthe. He means to overthrow him, and be greater still than his predecessor, together with his many vampire minions.

Do not ask me why I know all this, but rather consider what risk this creature poses. Where-ever I go I shall always be on the look-out for him, and so I stand here, and beg you to say if you or your scribes know anything of this vampire, and of a means to stop him?"

After this bold request, he is rather hesitant to follow through with the next one, though this one is of importance to the mission:

"I was stripped of steed, saddle and steel while I was rudely thrown in jail. If I am to be succesful in my effort to this mission, I will need at least basic equipment."

Galdren draws his swords and prepares to protect his companions should the ogres come anc contest their entrance into the fortress.

Girud follows suit, ready to defend teh party if need be. In the event that the ogres don't attack them, it's best to let them remain ignorant <fat chance>.

Stand nearish the hole with greatsword at the ready.

Alton will hold his fire for now, but readies one of his specialized fireball arrows incase it should be needed.

Garor follows suit and waits for his turn to enter.

If the ogres attack anyone he lays the smack down...

[Fangor the Fierce]

Adelia will enter asap. She tries to avoid the beasts in her way, and simply keeps her focus on getting in that fortress.

Mordrock, now adjusting to the view, takes in the interior of this place. His bow ready, he scans all about...

Krysta will move in after Adelia, wanting to make sure that the two in there aren't without a fighter.
