wrote out a huge reply and my computer blanked it! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Akatas, with lightning reflexes, you pull a javelin from your back and cast it at the lion striking it in its flank and drawing a howl of pain (damage=9). Tender, [tumble=34 vs DC 15) flipping backwards, you neatly land next to lusione (you have an action btw so you could attack once and move or just do something else afterwards - let me know and i'll update it). Mal, you draw a wand a cast grease (their saving throws only take effect on their initiative i'm afraid). Lusione lets fly twice with her bow missing both times - the parties bulk denying her a clear shot (lions are in cover as there are people in front). Coppertop, your searing light blazes over the lion's hide, however, there is a golden flash. Concentrating hard, you burst through its barrier and scorch its golden hide (damage=23). Ewan, you lash out with you claws and mouth tearing flesh (all hit AC 15). Pulling your claws apart, there is an audible rip as you rend the lion further (damage = 24 + 17 + 12 (claws and bite) + 22 rend damage = 75 damage ). The bloodied body of the celestial lion disappears in a puff of silver smoke. The remaining lion moves forward 5ft (balance check=20) and lashes out with tooth and claw towards Coppertop (ref save=21; pass) (AC 22, 20 and bite AC 23 - 1 claw, 1 bite). With great speed for a creature so large, golden claws slash at you. The first slices across your unprotected arms arms (11 damage) while the other drags across your chest but inflicts no wound. Its bite however finds your shoulder (8 damage) and it begins to drag you over, grappling you (No AoO either i'm afraid). Celestial dire lion grapple:[dice=20] + 17 (grapple BAB} + 4 {large} + 7 {str} = 42 Coppertop grapple: [dice=20] + 7 {BAB} + 0 {medium} + 0 {str} = 25 Coppertop is now grappled and at the mercy of an angry Celestial dire lion.... {If I might ask oh mighty DM how did these creatures gain SR 16? SRD claims that a celestial template gains SR 5+ the HD of the creatures. If they're 11 HD, your missing some HP, if not than I should have hit their SR anyhow with my crappy roll. Thanks.}
Sonova! is the only thought in Coppertop's mind as the creature attampts to rend the flesh from his bones. This always happened to him; One wrong turn and he's getting mauled by somethig the frontliners should have been there to combat. When this was over Akatas would be getting a piece of his mind.
Assuming he's still grappled on his turn he will attack the beast in hopes of finishing it off. There was no way he could break free of the creature's massive strength; but if it were dead it couldn't hurt him anymore.

A creature can walk within or through the area of grease at half normal speed with a DC 10 Balance check. Failure means it can’t move that round (and must then make a Reflex save or fall), while failure by 5 or more means it falls.
The Dire Celecstial Lion needs to make another Balance check since he now chose to move through the grease. Its only DC 10, but, if that's the case, he can only move at hald speed. Not sure how that works with a 5step move, so it's your call. If he can't take a 5 foot step, then he cant do the full attack, which would help out the healer....

{Wait a tic; I see a flaw in DM combat logic. E stepped forward into Ts place in order to kill off D1. In the map he's not forward. If he was then D2 would need to pass through Es threat range to get to me.}
{Sorry to point it out and make the work double; but it's a pretty fatal flaw in character placement.}

(Actually, Lusione did hit the Dire lion with her second arrow. Rolled 10+5AB, with a AC of 15 with the lion. Please correct me if I am wrong and that we need to beat the AC by at least one to hit something. Oups, nevermind then. And Japic, the dire lion have 8HD, so SR 13) (If there is any way to get Coppertop the crap out of where he is, so the lion can stop kissing him, just tell me, and I'll edit my action. I'm not really sure how I can help someone in a grapple 'rulewise'.
Akatas knew she was suposed to jump in melee, but she overestimated these creature. If Coppertop get killed cause of her, she'll regret it miserably.
She make a frontflip, expecting to smash the damn lion with a powerful kick.

Mal knows that the beast does not stand a chance. The Rogue will surely take advantage of the fact that the beast is DENIED ITS DEX bonus from the grapple, (hint hint, sneak attack!!!). Ewan would lay into the beast as well, with those nasty claws of his that he keeps cleaning on a daily basis. No, this beast was already dead before it's teeth sank into the healer.
Mal simply rolls his eye's at the winged one. Javelins? What the hell? Those have only been used as last resort, or when things were spread out in combat. Not in situations like thise. It was almost as if the celestial aura that this lion radiated confused the monk on what to do...
Mal will simply move north, towards the corner off the hallway, saying, "Enough of this, quit playing around..."
Ready Magic Missile, should the beast still be alive by the time Ewan is done with his rending claws. Hopefully, Mal won't have to use it. The others should handle this easily enough...
IF NEEDED, Magic Missile, at the Celestial Dire Lion,
[dice=4]+1=4 Spell Resistance +10 [Dice=20]
[dice=4]+1=3 Spell Resistance +10 [Dice=20]
[dice=4]+1=4 Spell Resistance +10 [Dice=20]
[dice=4]+1=4 Spell Resistance +10 [Dice=20]
[dice=4]+1=5 Spell Resistance +10 [Dice=20]
Total Damage=20 if SR is 15 or less. If it IS SR16, then only 15 damage, all Magic ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OOC - Also, the Celestial Dire Lion's Grapple Modifier is +17, not (+17+4+7) It is:
BAB (+6)+Size(+4)+STRModifier(+7)=+17
So, just to be fair, even though he still loses from original post, the Grapple Checks were 31 vs 25[rand=6537657392226821293571754687139536291228980416301058395005533468824]

Please correct me if I am wrong and that we need to beat the AC by at least one to hit something. The flat footed AC is 13, regular 15, but the lion has cover against you granting him a +4 to your ranged attacks. AC with 'soft cover' is 17 or 19 depending on whether the lions have acted or not. (in this case not yet) {Sorry to clutter this thread up; but there needs be an explanation lest these sorts of misunderstandings continue. Every day is a learning experience 'round this game table. Game on!}

[I don't feel safe in assuming that these things are straight from the SRD. We have no idea if the creatures have been advanced, are using different stat arrays (elite or otherwise) have different feats, like improved natural armor, etc. Where rules seem to be confused, I can see, but I don't feel comfortable correcting the creatures' stats without the 'behind the screen' information.
And just to clarify, Ewan was asking Tender to withdraw, so if he had no tumble check was required, but its moot since he passed it. Also, Ewan was 5fsing into his spot, so he should be adjacent. I'm not sure if I made that part clear.]
Seeing his compatriot in trouble, Ewan attempts uses his deadly claws with new purpose. Suddenly, they were Claws of Life, extracting the priest from the strangely glowing maw.
Stepping to the creatures flank, the same deadly series of attacks comes down.

OK, I think I need to check the SRD. Problem is, this was a 3.0 adventure. Anyone know where I can get hold of the templates lile celestial, etc? They're going to be needed. If the 3.5 ed. celestial template says a SR of HD + 5, then indeed, Coppertop's spell takes effect (i didnt roll that bad). I will modify the post acordingly. Also, I assumed as Ewan was a large creature, he had reach. If he doesnt, then your correct, the second lion would of recieved an AoO as it moved to attack Coppertop. Sorry guys, i'm a bit rusty But, the lion took a 5ft step then a full attack, so no AoO as far as I see. If thats not right, let me know and i'll update again.

{Wicksy, I don't mind if you use the creature stats right out the book - I know you're busy with your thesis, revising everything while you make a game post is going to take up a lot of time for you! Maybe more than you have available!
Slight differences carried over from 3.0 don't bother me, I trust you, and it will add some surprise for those that have memorised everything anyway.}
Nothing Tender can do here, except wince, and look through the crowd as the fight goes on - shouting curses, and encouragement, almost randomly in the excitement.
"I've told you before! Don't creep up behind me when I'm working!"
"You're lucky it wasn't an area spell!!"
"Spilt rubys!! Why'd you have to group up all the time!!! Spread out!!!"
