The flattened mountain was only to illustrate the massive explosion that might be responsible for our crystals. Though it doesn't really explain how they got to their present positions. Oh sure it does. Imagine a floating palace, could be idle, could be traveling. Who knows? But one way or another, imagine that this palace was waaay up in the air when it blew up. Imagine how fireworks explode. it starts in one place, then explodes outward, the burning bits falling back to the ground. If the explosion were big enough, there is no reason why the shards wouldn't have landed across a whole continent. As for the Lich being the Master, why not? I say that anything is possible. Who says that this lich was actually destroyed in the battle. Afterall, if there is a phalactery (or however it's spelled) as Romar mentioned above, and his body destroyed, his soul wouldn't just dissapate. He'd still be around somewhere. Not to mention that there is no better candidate to control the hoardes than this ancient lich returned to power. Wouldn't it suck if the shards WERE the phalactery..? I mean, what better place to hide, than in a crystal that cannot be destroyed? Stupid bad guys, why can't they just stay dead?

Yes! This is what I love. All the speculation when little pieces of the story are brought to light. It's great! I love it. Now, if only we can stop Romar from riding into the DeathSpew swamps atop his new horse. (When he gets it. ) Now THAT is a stellar idea.

ha, I'm gonna ride with Húna into those little marshlands and make those pesky undead beasties down there squint like the Aztecs did when Cortez introduced the horses to them! I'm gonna be so god-like! YAHOO! But seriously, great work on the horse! I love it, especially the never-get-tired,-hungry-or-thirsty-ability. It's like vein-riding only this is more a la Romar. great job. I only have one question: I initially intended to make Húna my animal companion when he was still an animal type being, but I couldn't do it just yet cause of my ranger level. Now however, Húna turned into a construct and into something with a little more HD then a standard horse. My 'humble' question: can I still make Húna into my animal companion? Of course I completely understand if I can't, but the status of animal companion would give Húna and Romar just a little more that specific bond that comes with being the animal companion and the ranger. And if I can, what ranger level would I need to accomplish that?

I'd allow it if you spent a feat on it, but then I'm not the DM.

You new steed has 6 HD. You are able to have a 3HD heavy horse at 4th level...so reason would stand that at 7th level, you would get to have a 6HD creature. Think of it as a time to re-bond with Húna.
Also, due to the new make-up of the creature, I would have to second TTC and say that a feat is required.
The following feat:
Man and Machine[General] Due to extrenuous circumstances, you have selected to bond with a construct over an animal companion. Prerequisites: Animal Companion as a class ability. Benefit: You may select a animal companion that is a construct instead of a natural creature. The selected construct must be of 'natural' material - (Wood, Stone or Metal, not flesh or energy etc) - and not have HD exceeding your own class level -1. Normal: You may only select animal companions form a predetermined list. Special: The construct must be awakened or otherwise imbued with at least animal intelligence.
Does that work? TTC, what do you think?
So in short Vemu, yes with more levels and a feat.

Except that he won't get the animal companion until 9th level, in that case. When he gets another feat. That sorta sucks.

Maybe he could take it as his 6th level feat, and then wen he turns 7th, the bond is initiated. I don't recall anything saying when he had to choose the mount. I see no reason why he couldn't just hold off till the appropriate time. Kinda like a wizard choosing his familiar later on instead of at creation.
As a DM I would let if fly, so long as the requirements were met at the time of bonding said companion.

the feat sounds like a good balanced measure to me; and I've got little problems with waiting till 9th level. After all, it will be something to get used to; being befriended with a machine. I'll take it as you made it.

I love the discussion going on now between both sides near Cannon's Foot! Very good job I say! Great dialogue and arguments on both sides. Just wished to say keep it up.

Well, as for the discussion on both sides atop the cliffs, I must say, it is getting a little redundant. It's like everytime we talk, the same things are said. True, it's exactly what they would say, but as you can see, she is tired of arguing or justifying her decisions. If they don't trust her, then so be it. Looks like another split of the group........
But seriously, great speaches by everyone. I like the conastant struggle between ideals and beliefs. It just seems as though it doesn't get anywhere. I think the fighters have comprpmised the most, having not mistrusted the others and also with telling their recent trials and tribulations. And with the damn elves turning on them, they seem to always be getting screwed over. Oh well, I like the hack and slash method they have going on for solving pretty much all disputes.... ;D

A few things I gotta lay down here: First: I actually do think the Lich-King is The Master. He's the only mention of any powerful undead character before the world turned into zombies and skeletons thus far. Plus, the story the dwarves gave didn't sound true (at least to Yuri that is). While it may seem too obvious as to the purpotrator (might have spelled that wrong), keep in mind, we don't have a lot to go on here. A vampire is not suppose to be this powerful. Vampires normally serve as lackeys for a Lich. Liches are powerful spellcasters that have been around far longer than vampires. Then again, there are vampires that spend their entire lives into necromancy. But that's just my opinion though. Second: Yuri would have never ran off. He's trying to end his family's false heritage. Why would he run now? Romar's the only aid he has. If he goes trying to find the other two parties, he's gonna get greeted with a stake though his heart (or head chopped off and stuffed full of garlic, whichever they prefer). Yuri has always been a loner, but this is too much for him. Third: The party doesn't trust one another? Wow. That's gonna look bad, very bad. Especially when Strumguard gets the news that half the party has betrayed the other half. That only leaves them to head to the last group of people they could probably get help from: The Dwarves. Trust needs to be established again, otherwise, one party's gonna have very serious trouble down the road. Finally: By what I have just seen from the Elven Elite: Kill the elves, burn their capital city, and ransack their lands (sorry, that's the vampire in me )

Girud is going to have to take a number to fight this elf in honorable combat. ["Now serving number 2...number 2"]
I love the party splits and the arguing. This is stuff you just can't do on the tabletop.
Hero really would feel justified executing this elf. He has shown no mercy and so he deserves none. The only thing he deserves is a quick death. And, she did yell "No Quarter" going into combat which is fair warning not to surrender (is it her fault he doesn't speak common?). Still, now that he has made a challenge, it is on.
Hero will probably meet her end not by failing in battle but by failing to compromise. I think she leans a little to the Lawful part of LG and Callian leans to the Good in LG.
I also think Caelith is now the defacto party leader. Hero and Callian speak well and step up when needed but Caelith comes up with the plans.

I also think Caelith is now the defacto party leader. Hero and Callian speak well and step up when needed but Caelith comes up with the plans. Aw. You're too kind. I always kinda saw it has having fallen into a Hero-Callian-Caelith sort of triumverate leadership. They seem to make the major decisions. At least, Caelith looks to Callian and Hero for agreement if he's thought of a plan. Though, with my most recent post, I dunno how much the others are gonna follow. Caelith is stuck in his ways as much as Hero is, really. He may be Neutral Good, but he does not take kindly to things viewed as betrayal. ...Yeah. There's a lot of lost trust between the two groups, and nothing's really being done on either side to repair it. And it may be time, real soon, for it to explode. But really, Krysta being diametrically opposed to Caelith is a really neat dynamic to play with, and it makes for wonderful heated discussion. Also, I'm starting to think the lich is the Master, too. But it seems a little too cut and dry to be just that simple...

Yeah, the ideals fo the characters are coming out greatly in this recent turn of events. Krysta has done nothing wrong, in her eyes. She was thought to have been among the few to survive the attack at Boone's Freehold, along with the other fighters. They managed to get a shard to the elven city, and learn of a weapon that may end this war. Who wouldn't try to power that weapon? Then, she finds out there were other survivors from Boone's Freehold, and that they are seeking the shards as well. She says they were entitled to the shard, and that her and the elves would leave to get the others. She then points out where two more shards are, so that the other group can lay claim to them. (She doesn't know if they knew this information already or not). Then all hell breaks loose. The elves turn on both groups, taking tha shard and fleeing. They were right, in knowing that Cannon's Foot would not survive. We left to continue the seeking of the shards to end all this slaughter. Then we saw what happened down below and snapped. As we were slaying the elves, the other gorup appears, to 'save the day' and gain a 'victory' that is pretty much started the whole debate. As for the threat on Krysta's life, she has taken her own advice, and kept her cool. She knows that without being able to trust each other, then this war is hopeless. Also, she is down 11 hit points,

lol, well, the battle probably would've gone a lot differently if the our group hadn't shown up. Even you can't deny that. Sure, the mages were slain, which was the big thing - But there were still 10 other elite. And as I recall, at least one member of the group was staggered. Might not have been so lucky without reinforcements. Anyway, not the point. It does, indeed, seem like everyone is pointing out that they won't win the war unless they can trust one another, but nobody is really trying to regain each other's trust. Except maybe Garor. Caelith and Krysta have more of an 'agree with me or be wrong' mentality. Great for arguments. And, uh, hey! Caelith's down some health, too! A, uh, single hit point...

I'm still loving this discussion, but everytime I read through Udjat's responses I'm getting oh so mad at that spoiled little elven brat. Really. That's why I think it's such a good discussion I guess, cause I had a side I could choose to favor. I mean, Caelith is just accusing the fighters of alot of stuff, ignorant to his own actions and to the fact that he doesn't know the whole story. It's easy to accuse another for his errors, but it's in most cases a whole lot more difficult to defend against accusations. But all this is just my opinion; I was wondering, if all of you weren't playing your character but yourself, would you still be on the side you are on or are you really discussing with your character against your better judgement?
