So, my D&D group has morphed into a poker group that also plays D&D a little. In fact, when we play D&D, there are 5 of us and we never can get guest players. When we play poker we have 6-8 players and have guest players all the time. When we have tournaments we have had 10 players.
Anyone else playing poker these days? It seems to be a bit of a craze right now.....

I keep threatening to put something like that togather.
I think it would be a blast but I don't know how many other people I could get that like to gamble.
How do you set it up? does every body show up with like $10 the then pot is dolled out 70/20/10 to the top three winners?

We usually play for a $2 buy in, non-tournament, no limit. This means that you can break even, win big or lose big. If you bust out you can buy back in as much as you like. There is no "winner" just a person with the biggest stack at the end of the night.
Occassionally we play a tournament (single elimination, no buy ins) and dole out winnings something like 50/30/20.
It is easier to get people to participate if you make the buy in small - like $2-$5.

We play on occassion, $20 buy, dealer picks game, $1 max-raise. Goes fast, particularly when 7-stud gets picked, hence the raise limit.

Yeah, we play no-limit so there are a lot of buy ins. :-)

Hurray for poker. Ya it does seem to be a bit of a craze right now. At the start of the semester me and my room mates were playing every night. We don't play as much now but still pretty often. We usually play texas hold'em but we have been getting into seven card as well. Anyone play the non-money online ones like party poker?

I play 5-card draw with chips and no money. I can never convince anyone to play for cash because I'm such a lucky bastard at games of chance in general.

You should give Texas Holdem a try - lots of fun and strategy involved. There are common cards so you can really think about what your opponet might be holding. I play 5-card draw with chips and no money. I can never convince anyone to play for cash because I'm such a lucky bastard at games of chance in general.

There's a reason I use the unlimited power of my imagination, cause I ain't got no damn money. Though in our actual D&D game, the PCs play a lot of poker. They just completed a huge task, so now they have lots of platinum bars to throw around.
Texas Holdem is alright, it can get pretty dirty sometimes, especially when the people who should've won are unaware of the fact, so they throw in their cards and let the person with the lower hand take the pot. That's always nice. I win more poker games like that. Though I usually only buy about five bucks worth of chips, so I'm never a big winner. Like I said, I ain't got no damn money.
