Gaius Lyonis
6th Level Human Cleric of Bacchus

Physical Description: A portly man of average height, Gaius wears a broad smile and thick beard on a face red from wine. A golden crown of laurels rests on his curly mahogany hair, giving away his status as a priest and his wealth. He is also adorned with a golden breastplate and greaves, complete with a matching aspis and white cloak. A small wine keg is strapped to the small of his back, and the hafts of two javelins and a shortspear jut over his shoulder. He leans heavily on an ornate carved staff wrapped in ivy. Two gold wine goblets hang from his belt clanging when he walks or moves.

He holds himself with certain dignity and keeps a civilized tact, but a fire in his eyes betrays a checked passion. His voice is smooth and deep, booming in the chambers of his temple and boisterous in the presence of a good party. His friendly demeanor exudes calm and fun in equal amounts, creating an atmosphere that lightens the moods of all those near him.

Magic

Divine Focus: Gaius uses two golden goblets as the divine focus of his Patron Deity. Representing a pact through drink, he believes that Bacchus came to him in a dream, telling him to spread peace in these violent times, and in return he would bring him glory. The god of the vine sealed his promise with a goblet of perfect wine. When Gaius awoke, the two golden cups were sitting on his nightstand one empty and one full.

Domains:
Community - Exemplifying the peaceful, civilized aspect of Bacchus, Gaius exudes peace allowing negotiation over bloodshed. He can use Calm Emotions as the spell 1/day as well as gaining a +2 on all Diplomacy checks.

Feast - Celebration is one of the main cornerstones of Bacchus's domain, and as such his priests are required to lift the peoples spirits through drink and feast. Gaius is immune to ingested poisons and diseases, allowing him to eat nearly anything. The exception to this is alcohol, but Bacchus's blessing extends over that as well providing him a greater tolerance to all forms of ales, wines and beers.

Background

Gaius was born to a clergy family in a small town in the south east, where hospitality and manners were commonplace. Though his father was devoted to Vulcan and his mother to Demeter, his sense of community and fun lured him to Bacchus's servants. While in college he was quite the party animal, but managed to get high marks as well, especially in Study of Religion and Extraplanar Contact.

When he graduated, he joined an Underworld Races Missionary organization and regularly participated in the diplomatic negotiations. His father sent him his glamored armor Armistice, so that he would always be protected. After three years of the trips, he decided to settle down and shepherd a community.

He didn't get far.

He was contacted to join X crawl, the very thing every kid in the empire had wanted to do since they were old enough to watch the sport. He was dumbfounded. Apparently somebody had heard of his endeavors in the underground, of his fights against the not so friendly "savage" races down there.

Of course he decided to join! How better to entertain and stabilize a community than to participate in the worlds favorite pastime!
