Jeremy backs away from the horrible scene, breathing heavy and fast, panic and fear overtaking him. [Sanity check failed. Sanity loss: 2] Jeremy’s body trembles, moreso as he watches the people he was with pulling out weapons of their own. [And yes, you recognize at least the African man was the one you exchanged looks with earlier.]
Thurman manages to swallow the horror of the scene. [San check: success. No loss.] But he soon realizes he is without a reliable weapon, having been understandably expecting a casual conversation, with no need for firearms. He withdraws all he has, a slim pocket knife, and brandishes it, grabbing Rebecca’s sleeve in his other hand. “Quickly, get the police,” he urges her, unaware of what lies beneath her jacket. [You can ready an attack, too, if you like.]
Sam also files away the murderous scene, trained soldier that he is. [San check success, no loss.] He leaps into reflexive action, and realizes that his instincts have already picked out the best weaponry available to him. [Nearest improvised weapons are a desk lamp (Club %, 1d4+db damage) and the desk chair (Club %, 1d6+db, two-handed. Can also be used to block incoming attacks, using block %)]
The large African shouts in halting English at the sickly white fellow. “Take things – leave!” His accent is exceedingly thick. The white man obliges, and for all the wildness in his eyes, seems happy to gather up an armful of papers from around him and hurry to the window – which you realize is open, the drapes billowing in a winter’s breeze. He’s clearly planning to make an escape. [Killer #2 starts to climb out the window.]
Rebecca suddenly draws a small, snub-nose revolver from underneath her dress jacket, pointing it at the murderers, proving surprisingly collected despite the grim scene before her. [San check success, no loss.] She shouts at the men “Stop, or I will shoot!” probably to the surprise of everyone present.
Jackhammer, despite his dismay over the scene, steps inside, brass knuckles equipped and ready. [San check fail. Loss: 1 point] He heads for the large African, the man clearly intent on charging them at his earliest opportunity. [Spot Hidden roll.] But as he enters further into the room, Jackhammer notices movement out of the corner of his eye – like a surprise left hook, a third man was lying in wait just inside, ready to attack! [Attacker gets only normal chance to hit. Miss.] Jackhammer’s instincts serve him well, and he easily swings out of the knife’s path, responding with a furious punch. [As rolled, success. 5 damage (per discussion in Weapons thread, no +1 for knucks anymore).] The man reels from the hit, blood splashing across his cheek, staggering a step. [This man is also an African, though not as large as the ‘leader’.]
The killer shouting orders surges forward, directing his attack at Sam, certain that his comrade can handle the giant Jackhammer. [Attack with knife, success. Sam may attempt to Block if using the chair, but must beat 10%. Otherwise, Sam takes a crippling 8 damage.] The blade slashes down hard, and unless otherwise stopped, will plunge deep into Sam’s shoulder, dangerously close to his neck. The African grins maniacally at the bloodshed.
[No post from Joe. San check: Success.] Possibly numb from tuning out the carnage, Joe lifts his camera and snaps a photo, his journalistic instincts kicking in where the need to act might fail.
Tommy, a little slow to react, is the last to act. He finds it difficult to tear his eyes away from the corpse of Jackson Elias, staring at the cruel symbol etched on his forehead, at his exposed ribs, and remembers a sight just like this one, not two months ago. Only then, it was someone close to Tommy. He never did find out who caused that death, but now he knows, and the deep pang of fear and excitement is almost too much to handle. [Who the unfortunate person was is entirely up to you, Yakumo. San loss: 4.] Shaking his head clear, Tommy grits his teeth and rushes into the fray, trying to catch the fleeing white murderer, who is no doubt trying to cart off valuable evidence and information. [Attack: miss.] But Tommy misses his quarry, still rattled from seeing Elias.
[Rebecca and Thurman can still attack this round if they like. Thurman is close enough to attack Killer #3 (the one attacking Jackhammer). Rebecca can fire at any of them (with a sidestep or two), and has two shots this round. She’ll have three shots next round (and will probably need to reload after that).]
Initiative- Jeremy (17), Thurman (14), Sam (13), Killer 2 (13), Rebecca (12), Killer 3 (10.5), Jackhammer (10), Killer 1 (10), Joe (9), Tommy (9).
