Jeremy-
Box box box, what’s in the box?
Thurman, Rebecca-
[Persuade roll for Rebecca’s story; result hidden.] Lt. Poole dutifully notes down what you say, his expression unreadable. “I see,” he says, finishing up. He looks at Rebecca and Thurman, frowning thoughtfully.
“Do you think you could tell me if any of the following names sound familiar to you?” He flips back in his notepad a few pages. “Jackson Elias. Silas N’Kwane.” He watches your faces intently after each name, searching for the slightest reaction.
When he has gauged your reactions, the detective continues. “It would seem your friend Joe has become another victim in a series of murders around the city. We have some leads on the culprits, but there are some... oddities... that crop up. Your other friend, Jeremy, appears to be one of them. We have reason to believe he may have been attacked and kidnapped by the killers – though this would be somewhat unusual. Jeremy was also present during one of the previous murders, making him the only link between two of the incidents so far.”
He fixes you both with a steady, penetrating stare. “We would very much like to find Jeremy. I feel he may be the key to cracking this thing. Are you sure you don’t know anything else that might help us find him, or those who want to hurt him? Anything at all? Please, search your memory.”
[Psychology rolls.] The detective seems very determined Jeremy, grasping for any clue that might help.
Sam, Tommy-
[Sorry, waiting on the police bit. Anything else you guys want to do?]
Box box box, what’s in the box?
Thurman, Rebecca-
"How do they know each other? Well, honestly I don't think they were that close...Joe mentioned at some point that he was thinking of getting an assistant, someone to sort of handle aspects of his job for him because he was really quite busy a lot of the time. I'm sorry I don't know more details, it was only something Joe mentioned briefly. Anyway, he seemed to think Jeremy was a good person for the job, and Jeremy was really excited to work for Joe because he's sort of famous in his work, you know? He's a good kid, though, and seemed bright even though he was sort of, er, scatterbrained sometimes."
She appears anxious, and adds, "I'm pretty sure they were working together tonight--I still have no idea why they were in this particular neighborhood this late, but have you searched for Jeremy yet?" she asks the detective and policeman. She's frankly amazed at how quickly all the lies slip out, and wonders in a somewhat detached way whether they'll actually buy any of it or not.
"Oh, as for how I know Joe and Jeremy--uh, a while ago some friends of mine from college wanted to do something different for a friend's birthday and they dragged me to one of Joe's performances. I know it sounds a little weird, but, what can I say..afterwards some guy friends just wanted to meet Joe because they thought he was the bees knees and all that . I of course never really knew Joe terribly well but I did consider him a friend. He always made me laugh." She dabs at her eyes with a mixture of real and yet simultaneously exaggerated emotion. "I just met Jeremy through Joe. I bumped into Joe recently at a restaurant and happened to meet Jeremy there."
