[Last day for Maestro. ]
Everyone-
Saturday, January 31st, Late Evening
London – The Blue Pyramid Club
Tommy grabs a seat over by the bar, taking advantage of Britain’s lack of prohibition laws to have some honest, upfront alcohol. Even so, the prices are a little steeper than they need to be. [No need to note it, just stating it for flavor.]
Meanwhile, the other three grab a table to one side of the action—not really in the midst of it, but not hiding in a shadowy corner, either, as that might appear suspicious. The club is crowded enough that it is a little tricky for Gray to keep clear sight of Tommy, as other patrons move by to block the way on their way to and from the bar or other places in the club. It is a popular place, at least among the Egyptian crowd.
Eventually, the stares begin to die down, and the other customers turn their attentions to the far more interesting dancers. Several women make their way past the three investigators, on their usual circuit through the club, and can easily be enticed to linger with a pound note or two. They do, in general, seem to leave Rebecca alone... but women with such interests are note unheard of in the 20’s, and so a dancer or two does test her ground near the wealthy American woman. Money is money, after all, and there are less savory characters in the establishment.
In time, a waiter of sorts does make his way over to the table. The man is foreign, with a thick accent and a little overweight, making far less of an effort to please than the dancers. When he has caught the eye of those seated, he merely raises his eyebrows, to suggest that they should tell him if there’s something they want. Perhaps his English isn’t so good—or maybe he just really is that rude.
By the bar, Tommy is soon relatively ignored, as the other men become absorbed in their drinks or in the women cavorting about. The bartender gives him a patient glance now and then, to ensure that he has all the alcohol he needs, but he is otherwise left largely to his own.
For those watching, the man who might or might not be Tewfik continues to sit and chat with his fellows, apparently unaware that people could be watching him in particular.
