[That’s Sam/Thurman/Grey doing nothing for the next several posts, and Tommy/William investigating the shop. Got it. ]
[You can roll for stuff you can easily know the outcome of (i.e. Tommy’s Locksmith roll), but you must either hide your rolls for other stuff from yourself or let me do them. Either is fine. For this post, I’ll make them.]
Tommy, William-
The two men creep along the alley outside of Tewfik’s, moving quietly and carefully to the back door, the entrance to the storage room Tommy spotted on their visit to the shop. There he takes out his lockpicks and works the lock for a bit before managing to open it with a little click. The door swings open with a nerve-wracking creak, but there is nobody about to notice. Flashlight in hand, Tommy leads the way inside.
The storage room turns out to be precisely what one would expect it to me. Teas, spices, and related accoutrements are stored in boxes throughout, most of them closed but unsealed, having been opened on arrival. There are not a great many boxes, but then there isn’t a great deal of space in the little storage room. Still, Tommy checks the room thoroughly before deciding it is time to move on.
The door from this room leads into the main shop area, a place Tommy is familiar with. The night is cloudy and the moon a waning crescent, but there is still enough dim illumination from the storefront that the flashlight can be doused—a good thing, since its light would be visible to any outside. Here the store is much as Tommy remembered it, with the addition of some bars closed over the windows for night-time security. Some of the wares have been stashed away, but most are still left out. The register has been closed out and left slightly ajar, nothing resting within. A quick search affirms that there is nothing of note in this room except for the stairs leading up to where Tewfik lives.
Tommy nods. Yes, surely this is where Tewfik’s secrets will be kept—in his living space.
The upstairs opens up into a sizable living room—not so big as the storefront, but less cluttered by display shelves and such. Two large windows dominate one wall, allowing in soft illumination and making a flashlight against problematic, but it would be a small matter to draw the curtains over these windows, to make it somewhat less conspicuous. Another wall of the room is adorned with a large, ornate mirror framed in gold with decorative figures worked into it. Near the stairs, a wide glass case houses several Egyptian statuettes, each of them recognizable as an Egyptian god or goddess—though Tommy doesn’t possess the discerning eye to identify any of them, or what they represent. The rest of the room is taken up by a pair of small, plush couches, colorful pillows, incense burners, rugs, a wooden roll-top desk, hanging lamps, and a sizable oil heater, keeping the room immensely warm—comparable to Egypt, one might guess. A low table towards the center of the room has only an open book on its surface—an open copy of the Koran.
A hallway leads out of the living room, with one door on either side and a third straight ahead. One door leads to a modest bathroom with the expected amenities, and another leads to an undersized kitchen, a little messy from use but otherwise in order—and of course well-stocked with spices. The third door, straight ahead, leads to a wide and comfortable-looking bedroom, decorated in much the same fashion as the living room. It is dominated by a large bed and a closet at one side, with many more pillows, couches, and similar furniture throughout, including a hookah at one end of the room. It is not so crowded as the living room, but it looks quite relaxing. Through the whole flat, the colors are predominantly blue and gold of soft shades, all quite complimentary.
[Where would you like to begin your hunt?]
Thurman, Grey, Sam-
Huddled tensely in the car, the three men watch from a modest distance as Tomym and the newest investigator, William, disappear into the shadows around Tewfik’s shop and home. The air is chill and cold on this February night, and all is quiet as the two men go about their business. Indeed, this area of town has quite dead at night—which is fortunate, as ever passer-by that happens along makes the three only more worried and anxious for the illicit activities happening within.
Will they find something? Will a policeman happen by and try to arrest them? Will the entire evening be spent on nerves and stress for nothing? Only time will tell.
