So, the fall season is quickly approaching. Halloween is coming. I'm among lots of folks that consider this the best holiday of them all. I was wondering if any of you had planned to get dressed up? I don't care if you are trick or treating, bag snatching (just mean!), sitting at home, going to work, going to a costume party, whatever. What are you going to dress up as? It's always interesting to hear what folks come up with. Classic dracula to people in famous paintings, I want to hear it all. Heck even past years (with photos) would be fun. Since I started this inquiry, I should probably spill my beans... but truthfully I'm not decided on what I'll dress as. Last year I threatened Gilligan... though I'm not so sure. I'd not like to shave (so close to KMan's wedding) and I'd need me a Skipper (also clean shaven). Not likely. What about you?

So, the fall season is quickly approaching. Halloween is coming. I'm among lots of folks that consider this the best holiday of them all. YES!!!! Candy and costumes... how is it not the best?! Yes, to all of the above (except bag snatching, unless it's my wife snatching my bag ). ;D Usually, I go as Batman (Keaton-style-ish) and had a streak of about 5 or 6 years with that costume. The year before last I was a Ring Wraith (Nazgul) from Lord of the Rings. Now, Batman is basically my default if I can't come up with something else/put together another costume. And yes, my wife embraces it wholly as well (though I can't even get her to try RPing ). Now, though, I have small children, so we're legit and not just people 'too old to celebrate with costume'. I'll have to see if I can dig up some pics...

I try to be different each year. Being the same thing is kind of boring for me. Though I don't have a kickass batman costume, so maybe that would change things.
Last year I was Waldo (of Where's Waldo), year before that I was a Sheik (of the rich oil variety), before that an Uber Nerd (geekiest clothes you ever saw)... hrm.... I'm having trouble remembering before then just now.
No luck yet on ideas for this year. I'll keep working on it.

Ok folks, I've figured it out. I'm gonna be... Inspector Gadget. I'm not gonna shave for it, but it'll work out anyhow. Found a decent coat at the second hand store today (only $11) so I'm on my way.

Great choice I think! But where are you gonna find a decent hat like that?

That's awesome, Japic! Are you going to incorporate any gadgets? I'm thinking roller-skate shoes.

This halloween party we're having is going to involve drinking at a friends house (who has hardwood floors). Though the idea is great, I'm afraid that I'd hurt myself, others or their property if I'm skating soused. If it were a sober party, then yes. The hat, I'll have to play around with. While I wont be able to have it be like the cartoon, I should be able to have an extending hand or the gadget copter or something. It would just have to be fixed. Beyond that I was going to see about carrying around a number of other gadgets. For the gadget arm, I've found one of these in town, though I was hoping for something different, it would work. There are lots of extra gadgets I could dig up I'm sure. Though so far the hat is my next largest concern. Does anyone know the name of such a hat? It's not a fedora, the rim is too narrow.

I always wished that the legs that would elevate the gadget mobile and alow it to walk past all of the traffic in the streets could actually exist and be used by me in real life. That would be sweet.
I haven't celebrated halloween in ages and I've never ever gotten any trick or treaters nor have I robbed little kids for bags.
I've always had an urge to dress up as a crayon, though I'm not sure which color I'd be.
I guess my favorite part of halloween is going over to people's houses on the day after and raiding their candy bowls.
I hope the fact that I've started every paragraph in this post thus far with the word "I" doesn't make me seem self centered.

We don't have small children (yet), so we can't go out and celebrate Halloween without getting beaten up or accused of being perverts or something. Ah, Great Britain..
Which is a shame, because I always think you yanks get way more fun out of Halloween than we do over here. We're so boring!

This yank doesn't have kids, nor do I go door to door asking for candy or such. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying a costume party when the chance arises.
With our hectic lives, most of the folks I know look for any excuse to have a gathering and enjoy life a little more. Costumes just make it more interesting. Have fun, it's not too late!

And Halloween falls on a weekend this year. Heh. Makeup and booze... man, I hope I don't end up with another child due to excessive celebration!

Isn't Wicker Man one of those bad Nicholas Cage movies
Oh, and what's "snigger" mean. I heard some british person referring to something as "a snigger" and I was too afraid to ask.

In my vocab, snigger is like a snicker. To laugh. But I'm not British. Enlighten us boyos.

snigger is what an illiterate person says when they meant to say snicker. not everybody listened at school..
take Wicksy for example.
I can vouch for him not listening at school because I sat next to him..

Incidentally, we once had a chocolate bar here called a "Marathon". It got renamed "Snicker", to make it more appealing worldwide(!?). At the time, being young and illiterate, we thought it had been renamed after the American word for trainers (sports shoes) - "sneakers".
Thinking about it 20 years later, I still don't understand why it was renamed "Snicker".
That is all.

Thinking about it 20 years later, I still don't understand why it was renamed "Snicker". That is all. That's because we already had the candy bar and called it 'Snickers' since the 1930's. Apparently it was named after one of the owners' favorite horses or something silly like that. Don't know why they called it 'Marathon' in the UK, but eventually they thought 'Hmm, maybe it'd be smarter to keep the same name worldwide!' But personally, I think it's so that whenever someone asks for a Vorpal Sword I can say 'Sorry, I don't have one--but here's a Snickers snack instead."

Don't get me wrong, it's very nicely done, but who thinks of shit like that at four in the morning?!
