Tommy, William-
[Lacking a Yakumo post, I will simply assume that Tommy does a generic search of the remaining rooms. I’d still like to know if he plans to take anything, such as the statuettes, mirror, or otherwise.]
William and Tommy continue to looks around Tewfik’s flat, rummaging through the closet, hunting through his trunk, examining a medicine cabinet in the bathroom, drawers in the kitchen, and so on. Tommy continues to uncover nothing noteworthy in the spice dealer’s home, short of his observations in the living room. The bedroom isn’t as clean and tidy, looking more lived-in, but there’s still nothing suspicious. The private investigator feels certain that there ought to be something in the closet, but short of various knickknacks and old clothes, his hopes are dashed.
For a while, William’s experience is much the same. He sifts through the trunk at the foot of Tewfik’s bed, and it occurs to him to hunt for hidden compartments, judging that if Tewfik is truly some kind of criminal or cultist, he will err on the side of caution. Examining the trunk, it is clear to William that there’s simply no room for a compartment anywhere on it—examining the walls, he comes to a similar conclusion. Something could be between the walls, but moving some furniture and wall hangings aside reveals no suitable place for a hidden compartment, or even for a discreet safe.
Then William remembers the desk.
Thinking back on it, he remembers that it seemed fairly odd for it to be so neat and orderly, and so utterly devoid of personal affects, of clutter buried in the back of drawers, and so on. But most importantly, William recalls a patch of empty desk apparently without an opening. When not searching for it specifically, it evaded his notice, but going back to the desk and looking it over, William can clearly make out a significant space where a hidden chamber could be. Knocking on it a bit assures him that it is indeed hollow, though he remains uncertain how to break into it short of cutting the desk open or smashing it—certainly not the most subtle of options.
When’s it clear that William has found something, he calls Tommy over, and together the two men manage to find a small button or switch tucked on the back underside of the desk. A little ‘click’ sounds, and the bottom swings free of one of the other drawers, allowing access to the hidden chamber within.
There, at long last, Tommy locates some truly suspicious items. There is a black silk robe and a golden stole for it, marked with an inverted ankh. Two short wooden rods also rest in the chamber, both carves and marked with various Egyptian symbols; one ends in a crook, much like a pharaoh’s, while the other ends in another inverted ankh. A curved dagger rests on top of the folded robe and stole, sheathed in an elegant gold-embroidered sheath. Finally, there are several sandstone vials, corked carefully, with some sort of thick, syrupy liquid inside.
Tommy feels his heart begin to race with anticipation and excitement. His time spent with Rebecca muddling through the book seems to have paid off. He recognizes the symbol on the robe and wooden scepter as something out of Life as a God, mentioned in passing as a symbol revered by the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh.
It would seem Tommy’s intense suspicion about Tewfik was spot on.
Thurman, Grey, Sam-
With the suspicious figure watching from across the street, the trio in the car decides to wait and watch—no sense acting too hastily and potentially endangering their operation; and their lives. The figure continues to remain very still and silent, making no move from the shadows, but does not seem keen on acting.
The car that circled once before does not return, adding some measure of relief. But Tommy and William certainly seem to be taking their time within the building...
