The Spice Shop - 06

Everyone-

When it is clear that none of the group can exit the car unseen, and can therefore neither safely split up nor ambush the lingering watcher, the trio in the car decides to simply resume their original plan of picking up William and Tommy.

Their execution of the plan is none too soon. For as they round the corner back around the block, Tommy and William have only just left the shop’s alley and standing blinking, mildly confused by the car’s disappearance. Then they spy Thurman and the others, and quickly make it over to the vehicle. Tommy carries several of the objects from the spice Shop with him, and though the shadowy figure does not pursue the two, it does stir a little sharply, as if in surprise.

No time to dwell on it, though. The car hurries off with all five men, and Sam can see the car tailing them slow down briefly to pick up the shadowy figure, who hurries to slip into a back seat of the vehicle. In that brief moment, the group’s driver tries to lose the tailing car. With a few sudden turns and unexpected roads, the pursuing vehicle falls behind, and the group is able to make a successful getaway. Still, they drive around for a bit aimlessly, keeping to safer areas of London, until it is very clear that they have lost them. Then it is back to one residence or another, to discuss Tommy and William’s findings.

A robe and stole. The curved dagger. The strange sandstone vials. And the crook and scepter. Bizarre items indeed, especially for an innocuous spice dealer—especially given that the inverted ankh on several items is indicative of the Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh, as read about in Life as a God.

But what is to be done with these items, with this information?

{Is there anything more that I can learn of the items, based on my knowledge of old shit? Anything unusual or not generally known about the items or their uses would be good. If we need another plotpoint, we could try for the docks, though the official call is up to those better at B&E.}

[Thurman knows enough to know that these aren't old objects, they're essentially recreated in the image of old objects. He knows that the ankh is the Egyptian symbol of life, and that inverted it presumably means the opposite, though that symbol does not actually exist in ancient Egypt, to his knowledge. The knife is difficult to place--just seems to be some sort of ceremonial dagger.

The crook and sceptor are interesting, in that the crook and flail were used as symbols for the pharaoh, symbolizing protection and prosperity. They're seen very frequently in mummies and heiroglyphics, but the sceptor is an oddity.

The serum makes no sense at all to Thurman, in that it is completely without Egyptian trappings and the substance inside, if examined, is beyond his limited knowledge of chemicals.

Sam looks over the implements warily; his doubts about Tewfik's connections to the disappearances were completely eliminated now.

"Well, you were certainly right, Tommy, though I don't know how you could be so sure..."

Sam is silent for a moment. "Unfortunately, we can't bring this to the Inspector. Our only lead is Tewfik himself; Tewfik and the groups of men leaving the Blue Pyramid. That, that we can alert the Inspector of. He can mount a better surveillance than we can, and though I think that fellow in the alley tonight could have just been keeping watch on the spice shop, they'll probably try now to find us. It would be wise to keep a low profile for a while, though I am growing impatient."

Sam frowns. Even with all they had learned, they were no closer to finding the reason for Elias' death.

If the night is still young and the team willing, we need to stage a break in at the docks. We'll need to crack open a few crates though, so definately bring along a prybar.

Frankly we need more info, and we need to hit these leads before they get wind of us coming. That and for good or ill, we can push the story along. Lets do something already.

William would be ok with a break in as well, more information is needed for a better story.

"I was right because these sort of people just can't hide it in the way they act and the people who investigate these things are just too trusting." Tommy takes the dagger back after the others are finished looking at it. He didn't care if they wanted to hold onto the other items, Tommy just felt the need to keep that dagger, it was important he felt. "We'll hit the docks, I need to know that Gavigan is in on this."
