Basically, type (dice=X) where X = the number of sides on the die--20, 6 etc--and replace the () with [] to make it an HTML tag. That's all there is to it. Unfortunately, to date, you cannot add in modifiers into the roll (i.e. 2d6 + 4, you must roll a d6 twice and add the 4 yourself).

That said;

Spiral stumbled on a method I (and Japic) had hoped no one would find. There is a way to cheat with these dice.

You can roll the dice and if you don't like the number, delete your own post and re-roll.


However, know that the all seeing eye is ALWAYS watching you;

The above is an expert from the security log that I get as an admin of Proboards. We see that Spiral has been a busy boy... Congrats on testing it and finding the weakness Spiral! Though, we had hoped no one would find that out.

The dice functionality was placed on KMan's to be interactive and bring a new element to internet gaming, NOT to abuse. Roll the dice once and live with the results. Modifying the dice, deleting dice posts or otherwise altering the initial roll in game posts is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

While I could care less about this incident because it's in the dice testing area, if I see this going on in game posts; I will either revoke the dice rolling ability all together, or revoke membership.

We wouldn't roll at a gaming table until we got what we wanted each time (unless we're a DM behind a screen) so let's not get in the habit of doing it here. Half the fun of role-playing is digging ourself out of a hole. You miss your sword-swing, you fail to climb the rope...these are the moments that make role-playing exciting, let's not lose that because we can take control in the internet medium.

I know we're all honest here and I don't see this becoming a problem, but if you suspect anyone of doing this, (Myself and other DMs included) let me know and I'll be happy to produce the admin log in its entirety for everyone with IP addresses covered up.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but you dont even have to go all the way to posting to delete your post. I think you can do this.

1.Type up your post with the rolls in it
2. Hit preview post once, It will show you the post up top with the stuff still in [dice= ] what ever
3. preview again and it will show you your roll, then you can go back out of the thread without posting if you dont like it and retry.

I didn't even think of abusing it until I saw the thread, I used the preview twice method so I can add some flavor text to posts that I know will miss or not.

I think this is going to come down to an Honor system. We are probably going to have to trust each other to not to cheat the system, because quite honestly there is no real reason to cheat.

But thats just me.

I do preview my posts with the dice functionality to check things so i can add a little flavour myself. I didnt realsie that you could do that...I guess people should just hope that everyone else is being honest with their rolls. I mean, cheating is a bit silly. We're just playing for fun....

I do this, too, and discovered this flaw in the system myself when I accidentally hit 'back' to edit my preview, instead of just editing it. I was very alarmed when my rolls abruptly changed.

Since then I have been very careful not to hit that 'back' button.

I think we've always held that dice here are ultimately an honor system, and as you said there's simply no reason to cheat. Bad rolls can be awesome (just ask Reno ). If you always succeeded every action, what would be the point?
