We have one at the top of the boards main page.
I was thinking of putting it to some use aside from the three things that it currently flashes. I just don't know what types of stuff to put there and how often it should be changed.
I was thinking that we could have new news there every week or so. Either news related to the boards or links, plugs, and other role playing submissions from members who would like to contribute something to the fader and provide people with something new to look at and potentially look into.
Is this a good idea?
Would people be willing to participate and PM me stuff to put up?
Thoughts, feedback ?

Well Shakes; I've got to admit that I rarely even look at the news fader. Though it could be argued tat the only reason I don't is because it never changes. If there are things to see, and I'm made aware of the change; I can start looking at them again.

I think doing something new with the news fader is an excellent idea. But after days of consideration, I don't really know what would be a good thing for it to be used for. I am not at all helpful.

Yeah, if only Vemu was more creative he'd be able to help us out Some stuff I was thinking of -KMan's hot topic threads (new games, new game ideas, requests for imput, etc. . . ) -links to reviews for various RPG's, new materials, books, and other stuff which our members might be interested in checking out -Random announcements (new game opening, old game looking for players, Game closing, Game moving, some non site related event taking place, etc. . . ) Those are my ideas. If people like them and are willing to help me out that's what we could use the fader for.

Lol, I have to be honest with you: the day I read this post, I thought about it long and hard, had a post written up with my thoughts, reread it, saw that it was not at all constructive and helpful (like Udjat) and refrained from posting it. It contained things like: I never read the newsfader, attempts in the past to make use of it have failed, there's not much news to be covered on these boards lately. But let's face it: the news fader doesn't catch the eye and isn't interactive, and it's a pain in the ass to wait for when you've missed the flashing text you wanted to read, so if there is real news, people would probably rather put it somewhere in a thread so that it draws readers and replies. The only thing I too could think of that might be useful are links to useful stuff on the net. Of course, ideally, I would pick up with the newspaper and highlights elections, and put the winners in the news fader like I once intended, but I'd definitely need help with that, cause I can't write every Kman's Chronicle on my own, and worse yet, I'd probably stop having the time when college starts back. So there you have it, my totally useless and on the other hand utopian suggestions. Please don't blame it on my creativity.

To be honest, I'm just looking for reasons not to scrap it altogether. I think news faders in general have lost their appeal and if we can't find anything to do with it, we might as well not have one. As it is, it is not serving our community and occasionally causes confusion due to old text or moved links and whatnot If no one has a valid reason why it should stay other than "It's always been there" and we can't get any feedback as to what to do with it, I'm gonna just remove it one day and see if anyone notices

I see no reason not to scrap it. So... scrap it. Tough for me to admit when something is just not adequately serving its purpose, but I don't think that the news fader is helping. And the last thing any of us need is more work for minimal payoff.

Yap, scrap it. It's not like such a thing is permanent, if we need it at some point, we'll put it back up. I even think, if we add up all the time spend by all of us combined scrolling past the space the news fader takes up, we might even save hours some day! So a little work for a maximum payoff!

I've decided that it's going to be used for new game announcements and calls for players, that way it serves both members and guests alike.
It will be inactive when there is nothing to report.

I must say, with the big fat capital letters, the news fader suddenly jumps into view every time I scroll past it. Perhaps it does have its uses.
