Don’t ask me how, but I managed to land a teaching job in the state that has the highest unemployment rate in the nation (U.S.). This new job is bitter sweet, however. I’m filling in for the year as an interim substitute (read- more money than standard substitute) for a lady who’s cancer returned (she’d beaten breast cancer once previously). The prognosis doesn’t look good, and if she is unable to return I’ll be taking her place permanently. Also, I just recently got the job, and school starts next week. So, in that time I have a lot of prep work to do (class syllabi, staff meetings, lesson plans- and I don’t even know which specific classes I’ll be teaching yet, etc.). This means that I have to cram several weeks of prep work into one, leaving little time for me to update around here. I’ll do my best to update the characters I’m playing, but the games I’m running (AoH and TFG) will not see an update for at least a week. Sorry that my games are what has to suffer, but you all know how it is.

First: Congratulations! As one constantly looking for a better job myself, I understand what an accomplishment it can be to finally get one.
Second: I'm curious to know what you're teaching, whenever you know/feel like sharing. Is this college-level or what? Just wondering.
Third: Bummer about the games, but it happens. Hopefully you'll be able to free up some time to run those, but I predict that it will take a bit of time for you to get a handle on the new schedule and workload and such. No worries. Just keep us posted.

Congratulations on the job, despite the unfortunate circumstances. Try to get to the games when you need a break from all of that work Good luck.

Congrats, and I too am curious on what you teach on what school. Who knows, I could very well end up a teacher myself some day, and I would jump at the opportunity, like any new teacher I hope, to introduce and intrigue my students to my subject. Of course, I guess the job is probably as hard as it is inspiring. Good luck!

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. It's finally starting to sink in exactly how big of a step/accomplishment this is (and my wife and I are realizing how much debt we're going to be able to pay off this year!!! Kiss my a$$, credit cards!!! ;D). To answer your questions, I have a Bachelor's in Education, and am highly qualified to teach English and History. As it stands, I'll be teaching Eng 10, AP Eng 11 (Advanced Placement Eng- think college bound, honor students- should be lots of fun!), and Yearbook (all high school level, obviously). The last one (Yearbook) scares me a bit as I have NO experience (other than looking through one) with photojournalism. But, again, this class has choice students (meaning, the previous teacher chose which students were allowed in the class), so that should make things a bit easier. And you're right, Vemu, the job is as hard as it is inspiring. But isn't that true with any job worth doing?

Holy crap, what an ordeal. On top of trying to make last minute preparations for the school year *frustrating*, I get hit with a bout of the flu *more frustrating*, and change my ISP only to loose service for several days *you see where this is going*. Anyway, things are returning to normal (a bit) and I'm beginning to make a routine of things, so I should return to at least semi-regular posting soon. I'm hoping to get to a few updates this weekend (though I have much going on, so no guarantees ). Thanks for your patience, everyone. Bad*

Ouch. Rough times, man, but thanks for letting us know. I haven't had lots of time on my hand to post updates, anyhow, so in that sense the timing isn't horrible (though I was beginning to wonder what to do with Skeksis ). Good luck getting things down to a comfortable rhythm. I look forward to seeing you around more often.

Well, get better soon.
I've been a little preoccupied lately as well so my updates are a bit slower to come than usual (that's what she said! yeah i know), but it does seem to be decent timing with nearly everyone being away or getting things back on track after the summer and vacations.
Update when you can, but of course thanks for keeping us posted, and if anything else should change keep us in the loop.

It is with great disappointment and much regret that I enter this post.
As things have begun to settle, I’m coming to a realization (one that I deeply resent) that my new schedule is not conducive to effective updates on Kman’s (as evidenced by my lengthy absence and silence). Although the outcome is not preferred, I have little recourse in the matter; I cannot sustain worthwhile postings while forwarding my professional career.
I’m deeply saddened that it has come to this.
I would particularly like to apologize to GMs whose games in which I participate (particularly Shards of the Dragon and IGtbE, which are nearing the end and were becoming very interesting, respectively). I understand your frustrations and sympathize with you and can only hope you can understand how difficult this decision has been for me.
Also, I’d like to apologize to the players in the games I was running (Freedom Gambit and AoH- particularly the latter, as it had taken a special, memorable place in my gaming heart). I appreciate your efforts and your patience, and am disappointed that I was unable to follow through on my commitments.
I’m not saying this is the end, just the end for now. I will return to gaming… eventually. Until then, I’ll be lurking (and taking in the excellent stories and role-playing).
Later.
Russ.

Sorry to hear that, but we all understand, we have been there ourselves. Some of us manage to get back on, others just check in from time to time. I will miss the games, but your life does come first no questions asked.

It's definitely sad to hear that you have to leave us, or at least take an extended hiatus. But as always, real life schedules take priority and it is appreciated that you are letting us know that you just don't have the time at this particular point to keep up with posting rather than keeping us in the dark and wondering for several more weeks before we give up altogether. . . Good luck with these new opportunities that have come your way, and of course, if I can manage to hold IGTBE together for however long, you're always welcome back once you have the chance to get posting on the boards again. Keep focused and hopefully we'll see you around soon enough.

Best of luck. As a person who has been walking the cusp myself, I must say that it is sad to see you go (for now).
Be well and travel well until we see you again.

Very sad to see you go. It has been a true pleasure to game with you online all this time, and your absence will be felt. Real life does take priority, however, and we all feel the pressure mounting at some time or another, and some of us more than the rest. You will be missed, as both a GM and a player. Don't disappear entirely on us. Maybe one day you can come back around, and that would be awesome. But we'll cross that bridge if it ever appears on our horizon. Until then, best of luck with everything.

Sadness. You are a great player, and I'll miss you. Do come back. When you're ready for it again. No, stay: just let those students you teach do their own stuff, and you can update during lessons. You're the teacher, man, you can do as you like! Ahem, no, on second thought, take your time. Life takes priority. We don't all have a job where we can sit behind a pc all day and update without a trouble. Good luck with your carreer, but do come back!

I am deeply saddened by the news of your obligatory absence. My poor Per-Wadjet will possibly feel very lonely. To quote Vemu, you are a great player, I took extra delight in your role-playing. I will miss you, and find solace in the possibility of your return. =)
Anyways, on whats more important, I wish you an excellent career along with a life of less work and more moneyz! =)
Take care.

I miss this place... the stories, the players, all of it. Just figured I'd drop a line and let you all know I'm still lurking (on occasion) and that things are going well. The first nine week marking period ended today, and the wrestling season is under way (well, conditioning at least- it'll be another week before we're on the mats proper). Also, the administration has made me aware that if the teacher whom I'm subbing for doesn't return, I'll be offered a contract for the position (making my absence from the boards worthwhile... on some level). Anyhoo, my kids are yelling in my ear (literally). See you all around. Later. Bad*http

Always good to hear from you, Bad*. We miss you, too! Thanks for the update. It's good to hear things are going well at the new gig. Best of luck with getting a permanent position there. It's excellent to be doing what you love for monies. And hey, if you ever find the time to jump into a game around here, you know you're always welcome back. We can't have had all that much for you to read lately, things being as slow as they have.

What would be lovelier than doing what you love for moneyz is doing nothing for moneyz, aka millonaire father. Sometimes I just re-realize that I will have to work for 30 more years, and I am caught by a feeling that is similar to the one one gets when s/he thinks about how big the universe is. =(
Anyways, hello Bad. Say hi to the kids. =)
